Chapter 98: My Rebellious Luna

BECKY POV

I woke up this morning in a tangled mess with Luke. My hair was all over the place, even in his face. Not that he seemed to mind. I slept so well I even drooled a little. Thank goodness I woke up before him and swiped that embarrassment off his chest. It wasn’t awkward or anything, it actually felt right.

That didn’t mean I was completely over everything… it just seemed so small in comparison to him leaving for battle. We both needed each other right now. Spending time with each other and talking definitely helped fix some of the cracks in our bond. What happened last night wasn’t meant to fix anything.

It was pure need. Yet the physical connection I didn’t even know we needed did in fact strengthen our bond. Werewolves are very sexual creatures, so I shouldn’t be surprised. I’m still cautious and vigilant, men tend to revert if you don’t keep your eye on them. But for this week I’m going to tone it down.

We need each other right now and that’s more important. There is also something very special we are going to do today. Something that will motivate him to come back in one piece. Before lunch, we have an appointment with the doctor for our baby’s first ultrasound. Which I found odd because Alice had an invasive ultrasound almost right after she found out she was pregnant.

Then she had one almost every two weeks. From what Dr. Flores explained the ultrasounds bother the fetus. Because of that, they only do them about three times during the entire pregnancy. Only if needed do they do more. Right now I’m in my studio getting all my gear ready. I have a feeling something exciting is going to happen soon and I want to be ready for it.

I turn in time to see Luke walk in, I’ll never get used to sensing someone presence. It’s so cool. “Ready Luna?” He was grinning from ear to ear. “I’ve been waiting all day for this!.” I grabbed my phone and we both left the studio. His hand reaches out and holds my hand as we walk to the infirmary.

As soon as we walked in, we were rushed into the exam room, where everything was ready for us. “Alpha, Luna.” The nurse bowed and handed me my off the runway paper gown. Let’s not forget the cup for my urine sample. They really need to design a funnel for these. Luke laughs and I realize that I’m scowling at the cup.

After, I fill the cup and wash my hands thoroughly. I change into the paper gown and Luke picks me up and sets me on the exam bed. “I could have used the step.” I remind him. “I wanted a reason to hold you.” He confesses and kisses the top of my head. Before I could swoon, there was a knock on the door. “Come in.” We both said in unison.

We are definitely anxious to see our pup. Dr. Flores walks in looking just as excited as we are. “Hello Luna! How are you feeling today?” She completely bypasses Luke, which surprises me because everyone around here is always very aware of his presence. “I’m good, really good.” I look at Luke who’s smiling at me. “Alpha. How are you holding up?” She bows and begins to look at my chart.

Clearly not really interested in how Luke is doing. “I’m a little nauseous and my back hurts.” He says with a grimace. “Mhm… That’s good.” She says absentmindedly and looks up at me. “Lay down for me Luna.” I do as I’m told, trying not to laugh at Luke’s attempt to get attention. “I’m going to put this over your lap and raise your gown.” My lower half is covered by a sheet and my gown is lifted to expose my belly.

“This is going to be cold.” She warns and squeezes gel onto my stomach. The big headed wand in her hand begins to spread the gel. Luke brings a chair over and holds my hand as the doctor works. The first thing I notice is the sound coming from the machine she’s looking at. There is nothing on the screen but she’s moving the wand around, pressing down, searching.

That’s when I hear it. Thump. Thump. thump. It’s so fast and strong. Then she points at the screen and shows me my little corazon (heart). “Here is your pup.” It’s so amazing to see life flickering in his tiny being. Luke kissed my hand and I felt wetness on my arm. I looked up and he was smiling but tears were falling from his eyes.

That’s when I realize I’m crying too. I’m wiping his tears while he wipes mine. We began to laugh and let the tears fall as we turned to look at our pup. “Do you want to know the gender?” She asked, startling us. “You can tell?” I asked curiously. I thought it would be too soon. “Not by looking, too soon at this point. There is bloodwork we can do to find out though.” She offers.

Luke and I share a look and I know we are on the same page. “No thank you. We can wait for the next ultrasound.” She smiled and began to print out a bunch of pictures of our pup. Luke wipes the gel of my belly and kisses it when he’s done. “We will see you at month four, Luna.” She turns to leave but stops short.

Turning to face Luke, she hands him a pamphlet. “Alpha. Saltines can help with nausea. Don’t eat anything too greasy either. There is a list of suggestions in that pamphlet. As for your back problems, alternate between ice and heat. See which one works for you.” She grins and walks out. “Thanks doc!” Luke says as the door shuts.

ALPHA LUKE POV

The past two days have been amazing. My Shortcake was giving me a break. I knew it had to do with us leaving next weekend, but I didn’t care. I was more scared about leaving her without me to protect her than about the battle I had ahead of me. Seeing our pup not only brought me joy but gave me something else to fight for.

With all the improvements made, I was feeling a little better about leaving my pregnant Luna here. We were still on cloud nine walking back to the pack when I heard yelling and crying. Turning towards the shops, I notice Brian facing off with Jerry. Celia is in between them in tears. “What’s going on here?” Brian stiffens and steps back.

Jerry stands his ground and brings Celia into his arms, making Brian growl. “Is there a problem Brian?” Becky asks as we get closer. “Alpha. My daughter thinks she’s mated to this human. I request he be removed from here so that she can meet her true mate.” He says, ignoring his Luna. “You need to acknowledge your Luna before even thinking of making any demands.” I said through gritted teeth.

He’s shaking, he’s so mad, but bows in front of Becky non the less. “Luna.” I ignore the growl in his voice, this time. “Brian.” Becky says respectfully. “Who do you think you are to demand anything. Let alone for my cousin, my family, to be removed from anywhere.” She asks. “He.. He isn’t even part of this pack!” Brian is seething.

My Luna shrugs her shoulders dismissively. “So. He is my guest. Also… you didn’t seem to be concerned about Celia meeting her “true mate” when you were pushing Matt in her direction.” She quirked her head at him. He splutters as he turns bright red. “Brian. Celia has informed me that Jerry is her mate. They are both in their right to accept each other if that’s what they wish.” I said with finality.

Brian turns to Celia and scowls at her. “I will not accept him in my family. You can mate him but you will no longer be a part of my family.” Violet, Celia’s mother, gasps. “If you don’t accept my MATE I will leave the pack with him!” Celia doubles down. Violet glares at Brian, who is dumbfounded. He didn’t expect Celia to one-up him.

Violet pulls Brian to the side, for privacy I assume. Even though we will all be able to hear them, heightened hearing. Becky pulls away, startling me. “Be right back!” She says and walks into her studio. I turned back to see Violet scolding Brian. “If my daughter leaves here, I will never forgive you Brian. I want her to be happy and you’re not going to force her to reject her mate.” I’ve never seen Violet say more than two words.

Brian always dominated their relationship. Looks like he just found her bottom line. “Vi…” He barely gets a word out before she gives him a death glare. “I will get to see my baby form a family.” Brian nods and they both walk back to Celia. “Fine.” Brian grumbles but everyone can see he is not fine at all.

Becky pops up out of nowhere with her camera. “Alright, smile everyone!” She says and everyone turns. She begins to snap pictures of the new couple and her parents. Celia and Violet are the only two smiling, Brian looks miserable and Jerry seems slightly less serious with his arm around his mate. “Great! I’ll have the best ones framed.” My Shortcake winks at Brian and comes back to my side. If she’s a handful… I need more hands.
