Chapter 139 A Hurtful Welcome
Chapter 139 A Hurtful Welcome
The soft night breeze brushed against the master bedroom curtains. Shireen sat quietly in front of the vanity table. Her slender body was wrapped in a maroon silk nightgown that fell perfectly right above her knees. Her fingers moved slowly applying night cream to her face. She stared at her reflection in the large mirror but her mind was completely empty. Disappointment and heartache had drained all her energy leaving a painful hollow space inside her chest.
The sound of the wooden door being pushed open broke the silence of the room.
Heavy footsteps sounded closer. Shireen saw the reflection of a tall broad figure appear in the mirror. Damon had just finished his shower. The man wore a casual black shirt and matching trousers. His dark hair was still slightly damp spreading the fresh scent of bath soap mixed with his signature masculine fragrance.
Damon stopped right behind Shireen's chair. He leaned down and wrapped both his strong arms around his wife's waist hugging her tightly from behind.
"I brought something for you," Damon whispered with a deep and warm baritone voice.
The man's large hand placed a black velvet box on the dressing table. The box was open displaying a beautiful diamond necklace sparkling under the bedroom lights.
Damon leaned his face forward intending to plant a long kiss on his wife's cheek.
However before his lips could even touch her skin Shireen turned her face to the side with a swift movement.
Damon's kiss landed on empty air.
The warm atmosphere in the room suddenly evaporated and was instantly replaced by a freezing tension. Damon straightened his posture again. The grey eyes of the business ruler stared at his wife's reflection in the mirror with a deeply furrowed brow.
"Why did you avoid me," Damon asked flatly. His tone began to turn incredibly stiff.
Shireen closed her face cream jar with a soft slamming sound. She returned Damon's gaze through the mirror with a highly cynical glare.
"You still have the nerve to ask why," Shireen mocked sharply. Her voice sounded as cold as ice.
Damon let out a rough breath. He rubbed his wet hair feeling an overwhelming sense of frustration.
"I am incredibly exhausted Anna," Damon stated trying to hold his emotions from exploding. "I just got home from a long flight and torturous medical treatments in Switzerland. I brought you an expensive gift. Is this the kind of welcome I get from my own wife after days of being apart."
Shireen stood up from her chair. She turned her body facing away from the vanity table completely ignoring the diamond necklace. That expensive jewelry meant absolutely nothing compared to the lies this man was hiding behind her back.
"I am too lazy to deal with you tonight Damon," Shireen replied uncaringly. "You better go to sleep. I am tired and I do not want to argue."
The woman took one step intending to walk away from her husband and head straight to the bed.
But Damon moved much faster. His large hand reached out and grabbed Shireen's wrist with a very strong grip. Damon pulled his wife's body back until they stood facing each other at a very close distance.
"What is actually wrong with you," Damon demanded raising his voice. The ego of the Lexton master was truly wounded by this blatant rejection. "Tell me what your problem is. Stop acting so childish when I just walked through the door."
"Let go of my hand," Shireen struggled trying hard to pull her arm away. "You are hurting me Damon."
"Answer my question first," Damon forced bringing their bodies even closer to lock the woman's movements entirely.
Damon's body scent that used to always succeed in calming her nerves now actually made Shireen's blood boil. She remembered another woman who might have already smelled this fragrance and laughed together with this man in that fancy restaurant. Her currently unstable body hormones turned her blind jealousy into a deadly anger.
"I said let go," Shireen shouted hitting Damon's broad chest with all her might. "I hate looking at your face."
The word hate coming out of Shireen's mouth snapped the remaining shreds of Damon's patience. The dominant man's pride shattered into pieces. Without giving any warning Damon grabbed the back of his wife's neck and immediately captured Shireen's lips with absolute force.
The kiss was very rough and filled with anger. Damon crushed his wife's lips trying to silence all her protests and rejections. The man pressed Shireen's body against the edge of the dressing table locking all her resistance with his much larger body weight.
Shireen widened her eyes in shock. Pure disgust and anger exploded inside her chest. She strongly refused to be touched by a man who loved spreading lies.
With her remaining strength and mounting desperation Shireen bit Damon's lower lip as hard as she could.
The metallic taste of fresh blood instantly filled both their mouths.
Damon groaned in pain and was forced to release his grip. The man took a step back while touching his own lips. Fresh blood dripped from the torn wound on his lower lip staining his chin.
A sharp slap landed squarely on Damon's left cheek. The slapping sound was very loud breaking the silence of the bedroom. Damon's face turned to the side due to the sheer force of his wife's strike.
"Do not ever force your touch on me again," Shireen's breath hitched rapidly. The tears she had been holding back finally spilled wetting her flushed cheeks.
Damon stood completely frozen. His jaw hardened holding back the anger that had reached its maximum limit. His grey eyes turned very dark and terrifying. He was just about to reply to his wife's words when Shireen turned around and snatched her phone from the bed.
The woman walked quickly approaching Damon then shoved the brightly lit phone screen right in front of her husband's chest.
"Look at this," Shireen's crying broke spilling all her heartache and disappointment. "Look at these photos and tell me who is actually playing around behind my back Damon Lexton."
Damon lowered his gaze staring at the phone screen in his hand. The man's body went completely stiff instantly. All the anger in his chest vanished replaced by an extraordinary shock when he saw the picture of himself and Estela displayed very clearly right there.
