Chapter 138 The Heir's Warning and A Freezing Welcome

Chapter 138 The Heir's Warning and A Freezing Welcome
The sound of shattered glass hitting the marble floor still echoed in Shireen's ears. Her chest heaved heavily as she tried to contain the boiling anger inside. Before she could vent her frustration any further the squeak of a door being pushed open slowly from the outside stopped her movements.

Shireen turned her head quickly. El stood at the threshold of the bedroom with a confused face. The five year old boy's small hand gripped the door handle tightly while his grey eyes stared at the broken glass on the floor then shifted to his mother's face.

"Mommy why is the glass broken," El asked stepping inside carefully.

Shireen gasped in surprise. She hurriedly wiped the traces of tears on her cheeks using the back of her hand then took a deep breath to normalize her voice. She could not appear broken in front of her son.

"Mommy is fine Sweetheart," Shireen answered forcing a warm smile. She walked avoiding the broken glass then crouched down to match El's height. "My head suddenly felt a little painful and dizzy earlier. My hand became weak and I was careless holding that glass until it dropped. Please forgive Mommy for startling you."

Shireen pressed the intercom button on the wall near the nightstand.

"Please send a maid to the master bedroom right now to clean up the broken glass on the floor," Shireen ordered briefly to the security staff downstairs.

El stared at his mother intently. The boy's tiny hand reached out touching Shireen's bulging stomach with a very gentle movement.

"Did the baby sibling hurt Mommy in there," El asked with a very innocent serious face. "Did the baby kick Mommy too hard until Mommy got dizzy and cried."

That pure question from a little child successfully destroyed the dark clouds in Shireen's heart. A sincere crisp laugh finally escaped the woman's lips. Shireen shook her head then guided El's hand to rub her stomach together.

"No Sweetheart," Shireen answered with eyes sparkling with affection again. "The baby sibling in here is very good and smart just like the big brother. You do not need to scold the baby. You have to be the best big brother and love your sibling okay."

El nodded firmly. His small chest puffed out proudly accepting the task.

"Of course Mom," El said full of conviction. "I will protect the baby from bad people."

Shireen smiled in relief. She stood up then held her son's hand tightly.

"Let us just sleep in your room tonight," Shireen invited stepping out of the master bedroom. She refused to sleep in the bed that reminded her of that lying man. "Mommy wants to hug you until morning."

Arriving at the child's room Shireen laid her body next to El. Physical exhaustion from the pregnancy and mental exhaustion from Damon's betrayal made Shireen's eyes feel extremely heavy. While tightly hugging her son's tiny body the woman closed her eyes and fell fast asleep within minutes running away from the painful reality.

However when Shireen's breathing had become regular and calm El's grey eyes snapped wide open piercing the darkness of the room.

The genius boy was not asleep at all. He looked at his mother's face which appeared pale and exhausted. El's brilliant brain knew exactly his mother was lying. That glass did not fall due to carelessness but was thrown intentionally due to immense anger.

"That Old Man must have done something stupid again out there," El whispered quietly to himself. "Truly nothing but a nuisance."

El slipped out of his mother's embrace with very slow movements so as not to wake the woman. He grabbed his smartwatch lying on the study desk. His small fingers pressed a special call number connected directly to the Lexton Corp communication system.

Far away on the European continent inside a luxurious hotel room in Zurich.

Leo who was arranging his master's return schedule was startled when his special phone rang. The number appearing on the screen was the security code from Young Master El's smartwatch. The assistant immediately picked it up with an anxious feeling.

"Hello Young Master," Leo greeted quickly. "Is there an emergency at the estate."

"Tell that Old Man," El's typical cold and snappy voice instantly struck Leo's ear. "Tell him to come home as soon as possible right now. Do not waste any more time."

Without waiting for an answer or explanation from Leo the boy immediately disconnected the phone call unilaterally.

Leo stared at his phone screen with a confused frown. He quickly walked towards the hotel room sitting area where Damon was relaxing enjoying a glass of wine after undergoing exhausting therapy.

"Reporting Master," Leo said bowing his head. "Young Master El just called using the emergency channel."

Damon lifted his face instantly. "What is wrong with my son."

"He did not say there was any danger Sir," Leo explained honestly. "The Young Master only gave an order with a very snappy tone. He told you to come home as fast as possible tonight without wasting time."

Hearing the report Damon actually leaned his back against the sofa then laughed softly. A laugh that sounded very relaxed and full of self confidence.

"That kid is indeed too proud to admit his feelings," Damon muttered curving a proud smile. "He must be sulking on purpose because I promised to buy a new computer but I have not come home yet. He is joking in his own way."

The ruler of Lexton sipped his wine with an incredibly calm feeling. Damon was completely unaware that the short call from his son was not a joke born of longing but a stern warning of a massive storm waiting for him at home.

The next morning bright sunlight shone into the main dining room of the Von Gherman estate.

Shireen sat in her chair eating a fresh fruit breakfast with an expressionless face. Beside her El was chewing chocolate cereal calmly. The morning atmosphere felt very peaceful until the sound of firm footsteps broke the silence of the room.

Damon Lexton stepped into the dining room in a black suit wrapping his fit and healthy body. The man had just arrived from the airport and headed straight to the estate without resting to give a surprise to his wife and son. Damon's face radiated a very thick longing.

"Good morning," Damon greeted with a warm baritone voice.

The man walked closer to Shireen's chair and leaned down intending to kiss his wife's cheek. But before Damon's lips touched her skin Shireen pulled her face back with a very subtle yet deadly movement. The woman took a cloth napkin then wiped the corner of her lips with a slow motion not looking into her husband's eyes at all.

Damon froze in his spot. The smile on the man's lips faded slowly seeing that cold rejection.

"You are home," Shireen greeted flatly her voice as cold as ice at the north pole. There was no happy smile. There were no anxious questions about his health. The woman spoke as if Damon were merely a foreign guest passing by.

"Yes I just landed," Damon answered suppressing the confusion in his chest. He tried to grab Shireen's hand on the table. "How are you and our son doing."

Shireen pulled her hand away before Damon's fingers managed to touch her. The woman stood up from the chair pushing the wooden chair back with a harsh scraping sound.

"We are very well," Shireen replied without emotion. The woman turned toward her son. "Come on El finish your food. We need to leave soon."

El gulped down his milk then jumped off the chair. He grabbed his small backpack without glancing at his father at all.

"Where are you going this early in the morning," Damon asked holding back the anger starting to ignite from his wife's cold attitude. "I just arrived home Anna."

"I have to drop El off at his computer tutoring class now," Shireen answered grabbing her handbag. She glanced at Damon briefly with completely empty eyes. "Mind your own business Mr. Lexton. Do not interfere with my schedule."

Without waiting for a reply from the man standing stiffly beside the table Shireen held her son's hand then walked stepping out of the dining room. The heels of the woman's shoes clicked against the marble floor leaving Damon frozen alone digesting the freezing welcome that had just destroyed all his happiness this morning.

The real storm had just begun inside their golden cage.
