Chapter 140: A Miracle and A High Price

Damon stared at the glowing phone screen in his hand with frozen breath.

His brilliant brain immediately dissected the malicious camera angles of the photographs. The pictures were deliberately taken from a specific blind spot to make a professional medical discussion look like a romantic secret date. He realized how perfectly the trap had been set to destroy his wife's trust.

Damon lowered the phone and looked up at Shireen. The woman was trembling violently and her beautiful face was covered in tears of pure heartbreak.

"Anna listen to me," Damon pleaded stepping forward very carefully. "This is a massive misunderstanding. The woman in these pictures is Estela. She is a herbal doctor assigned by Doctor Albert to treat my internal organs."

Shireen shook her head quickly refusing to accept the sudden excuse.

"You went to Switzerland for a medical treatment but you ended up having a fancy dinner with another woman," Shireen accused with a cracked voice. "You ignored all my calls and messages all day long. You let me wait for you like an idiot."

"I did not ignore you," Damon answered desperately trying to hold her hands but Shireen stepped back. "My phone battery died right when you called me. Estela took me to her house because all the hotels were fully booked and my illness suddenly relapsed due to the cold weather. She only gave me herbal medicine."

Damon looked deep into his wife's tearful eyes trying to convey his absolute honesty.

"Estela is also the little girl who gave me food when I ran away from home decades ago," Damon explained softly. "I only treat her with basic respect to repay my childhood debt. There is absolutely nothing romantic between us. My heart only belongs to you."

Shireen bit her lower lip. The explanation sounded very logical but the pain of being left in the dark clouded her judgment. Her pregnancy hormones made her emotions wild and uncontrollable.

"You always hide everything from me," Shireen sobbed clutching her chest. "You hid your painful treatment. You hid your meetings. You think keeping secrets protects me but it only makes me feel completely useless as your wife."

Seeing his words were not enough to break through his wife's shattered trust Damon gritted his teeth. He needed solid proof immediately. The man pulled out his own phone and pressed the speed dial button.

The call connected instantly.

"Leo come to the master bedroom right now," Damon commanded loudly making sure his voice echoed clearly in the room. "Bring the entire medical dossier regarding Doctor Estela and my complete treatment schedule. Bring the hotel cancellation proof as well."

Damon tossed his phone onto the bed. He looked back at Shireen with a pleading gaze.

"Leo will bring you all the paperwork," Damon stated firmly. "You can read every single detail of my schedule. I have never betrayed our marriage."

Shireen wiped her wet cheeks roughly. The overwhelming stress and the intense emotional outburst finally took a heavy toll on her fragile body. A sudden sharp cramp hit her lower abdomen making her wince in pain. She placed a protective hand over her stomach and took a deep shaky breath.

"I do not need your documents Damon," Shireen cried her voice breaking into a soft whimper. "I just needed your honesty. Do you know what I went through today while you were busy hiding your illness from me."

Damon froze in his tracks. His grey eyes dropped to look at Shireen's hand resting protectively on her stomach. A strange feeling washed over him.

"I went to the hospital alone this morning," Shireen confessed letting her tears fall uncontrollably. "I felt so sick and nauseous for days. I wanted to call you and tell you the good news but you were unreachable."

Shireen looked into Damon's widening eyes.

"I am pregnant Damon," Shireen revealed the hidden truth with a trembling voice. "I am carrying your second child."

The entire world stopped spinning for Damon Lexton.

The air vanished completely from the luxurious bedroom. Damon stared at Shireen's flat stomach with wide disbelieving eyes. His heart hammered wildly against his ribs. The top doctors in Europe had officially stated he was permanently infertile due to the nerve poison. His reproductive system was supposed to be completely ruined.

Yet the woman crying in front of him had just announced an absolute miracle.

"Pregnant," Damon whispered his voice cracking completely. "You are truly pregnant."

His sturdy legs lost all their strength. The ruthless ruler of Lexton fell to his knees right in front of Shireen. His trembling hands reached out and gently touched her stomach treating her like the most fragile glass in the universe.

Overwhelming guilt crashed into Damon washing away his massive ego. He had stressed his pregnant wife to the point of crying hysterically. He had made the mother of his unborn child feel insecure and unloved.

"I am so sorry Anna," Damon choked back a sob burying his face against Shireen's waist. Tears of profound joy and deep regret fell from the tyrant's eyes soaking the fabric of her nightgown. "I am so sorry for making you cry. Thank you for this miracle. Thank you."

Shireen looked down at the powerful man crying on his knees. The thick wall of anger in her heart melted instantly. She gently stroked Damon's dark hair feeling the genuine love and desperation radiating from her husband.

Before Shireen could utter a word of forgiveness the heavy bedroom door was pushed open from the outside.

Leo stood at the threshold holding a stack of medical documents. However the assistant immediately stepped aside when a small figure walked past him.

El stood at the doorway holding his toy robot. The five year old genius boy looked at the scene with very sharp grey eyes. He saw his mother crying with a red face and his arrogant father kneeling helplessly on the floor.

El walked inside the bedroom with slow and intimidating steps perfectly mimicking a mafia boss. The boy crossed his arms over his small chest and stared down at his father.

"Old Man," El stated coldly his childish voice echoing with absolute authority across the silent room. "You have to pay a very high price for making Mommy cry tonight."
