Chapter 92 I Love You, Bunny.

Chapter 92 I Love You, Bunny.

Chapter 92.

Bunny’s POV.

Right.

I almost forgot. He was Xavier Thorne. How could he possibly not be possessive? This was his true nature. This was the raw, unfiltered side of the man that the entire underworld feared.

For a brief second, I had actually believed his schemes. I had stupidly believed that he genuinely meant well, all because he did an incredibly good job of hiding this dangerous side of him whenever he was around me. He had played the part of the protective, quiet roommate so perfectly that I forgot what he was capable of.

But I was wrong. I was so incredibly wrong.

He only wanted me to lower my guard and trust him completely. He wanted me vulnerable so he could wrap his chains around me without me even noticing.

Xavier’s grip on my wrist tightened significantly, holding me so tightly it felt like my bones would snap. He held onto me like he genuinely believed I was going to evaporate or die if he let go for even a single second.

“Are you okay? Let go of me, you crazy bastard!” I cursed angrily now, my voice echoing off the bedroom walls. I began smacking his broad chest roughly with my free hand, trying to create any kind of distance between us.

But my struggle meant absolutely nothing to him. He grabbed my other wrist now, pinning both of my hands down and forcefully pulling me closer until his solid chest slammed directly into mine.

“Xavier!” I gasped, the wind knocked out of me from the sudden impact. “Are you crazy? Let go of me right now!” I groaned, sneering up at him with all the anger I could muster.

Xavier’s dark eyes darkened even more, his pupils dilating until they were almost entirely black, and his lips slowly curled into a dark, sly smile. Then, gently—very gently—he tilted his head sideways, staring deeply into my eyes like a literal psychopath.

“Crazy?” he asked, letting out a very dark, low chuckle that vibrated right against my chest.

“What? Did you actually think I was a sane man, Bunny?” The smile on his face stretched even wider now, turning into something completely unhinged. “Oh, Bunny. I am not sane. For you, I can be absolutely anything. Stupid. Crazy. Obsessive. Whatever in the world it is, just name it, and I will become it.”

My gaze remained locked onto his, my heart racing roughly within my chest. It was hammering so hard against my ribs that I was certain he could feel it through his jacket.

I didn’t know what to say. I simply couldn’t bring myself to say a single word.

I hate him. I absolutely hate Xavier. Or maybe… I hate the terrifying fact that I still want him despite everything. I don’t fucking know which it is anymore. The confusion was tearing my brain apart. All I know is that my heart was racing at a dangerous speed, yearning for him in ways it should never yearn for a monster.

But regardless of what my stupid, broken heart wanted, I couldn’t let this go on. Xavier and I could never be together. It was completely impossible.

First of all, he doesn’t love me. This was just a sick, twisted game of possession to him. Second, we were just two entirely different people who were destined to walk two completely different paths in this life. He belonged in the dark, ruling over an empire of blood and guns. And me? I am nobody. I am just a broken girl with a ruined past, a child without anybody in the world to protect her.

Xavier’s large hand moved now, releasing one of my wrists. He brought his fingers closer to my face before finally beginning to trail them gently across my skin.

My breath hitched instantly, and my cheeks tingled at the sudden contact. I tried to move my face away, jerking my chin back to escape his touch, but his grip on my other wrist was too solid. I couldn’t move an inch. So I just remained completely still, watching him through wide eyes as he trailed his fingers across my cheeks, gently, yet incredibly possessively.

“I want you,” he whispered softly now, his face becoming unbearably close to mine. His lips were almost brushing against my skin, his hot breath fanning across my mouth.

“You can’t,” I whispered back, my voice trembling as I pressed my free palm flat against his hard chest, trying with all the strength I had left to push him away from me.

Xavier stilled for a few moments, his movements freezing completely as he stared down at me. Then, a dark look crossed his features, and he continued.

“That day… on my bed, you had sworn an oath, Bunny. You said…”

Before he could even utter the remaining words, a sudden surge of pure fury took over my body. I violently yanked my hand out of his grip, swung my arm back, and sent a very harsh, echoing slap straight across his face.

SMACK.

Xavier’s breath hitched instantly. His entire body went completely, terrifyingly still. The ticking of the clock on the nightstand was the only sound left in the room.

His eyes darkened into a shade of black that looked completely lethal. Then he gently moved his face back, turning his head slowly to stare right at me.

“What?” he smiled, the expression empty and terrifying. “You think a slap can push me away from you? You think this can make me run? When I said you are mine, I meant every single fucking word, Bunny. You are mine.”

“I am not yours!” I groaned out angrily, tears of sheer frustration finally spilling over my eyelashes. “I will never belong to you!”

“But that wasn’t what you said when you were screaming beneath me, Bunny,” he sneered, his voice dropping into a dangerous whisper that threw my past vulnerability right back into my face.

“You are mad!” I groaned, a sob escaping my throat as I smacked his chest yet again, hating how easily he could unravel me. “Every fucking thing I said to you that night was just because we were caught up in lust! It didn’t mean anything!”

“Lust?” Xavier groaned, the word ripping out of his chest like a growl. His eyes suddenly turned dark with an intense wave of something that looked exactly like raw, agonizing pain.

He gripped my shoulders tightly, forcing me to look at him. “You honestly think everything that I did with you all this while was just because of some dirty, cheap word called lust? You think that’s all this is to me?”

My lashes fluttered rapidly, and I blinked gently, looking away from his intense stare because the sheer pain in his voice was starting to make me feel weak. I couldn’t look him in the eye.

“If it wasn’t because of lust… then what else could it possibly be, Xavier?” I asked, keeping my head turned.

His entire body stiffened now, completely rigid against mine, and I could already tell that my words had struck a deeply sensitive nerve inside him.

A heavy, suffocating silence fell over the bedroom. And the sudden silence from him? It made me feel so fucking weak. It made my knees shake against the cold floor tiles.

With a gentle, bitter scoff, I tilted my head back to stare directly into his bloodshot eyes. “See? I didn’t even lie. You don’t even have an answer. You don’t even know why you approached me in the first place.”

“I do know!” he countered almost immediately, his voice exploding through the quiet room as his eyes blazed with a sudden, furious fire.

“I know exactly why I came after you, Bunny! And my reason is not because of some silly bet game! It is not because of some annoying sex! And it is certainly not because of some stupid pity!”

“Then what the hell is it fucking because of? Tell me!” I screamed back, my chest heaving as tears streamed down my face.

“It is because of love, Bunny! It’s because I fucking love you!” Xavier yelled, his raw, broken voice shattering the silence.

The moment the words left his mouth, the entire air in the master bedroom went completely, utterly still.

My breath froze instantly in my throat. My knees just went completely weak, turning to water beneath me. I couldn’t move. My wide eyes remained locked onto his, staring at the raw, desperate truth radiating from his face, completely unable to accept or process those last three words.
