Chapter 93 Let Me Be Obsessed With You.
Chapter 93 Let Me Be Obsessed With You.
Chapter 93.
Bunny’s POV.
Xavier loves me?
Did he actually say those exact words to me?
The raw look in his dark eyes was completely sincere, and it was sincere enough to make anyone believe him. It was the kind of honesty that should have made me drop my walls entirely, but I simply do not want to.
I do not want to be stuck in his endless misery. I do not want to get dragged into the web of lies that I keep thinking are my actual reality. I couldn’t risk my heart breaking all over again for a man who kept so many dangerous secrets.
So gently, with every single ounce of willpower left in my body, I pulled my hand out of his tight grip, then turned around slowly, facing away from him.
“Bunny,” Xavier called out, his voice laced with so much sudden urgency it sounded like a plea. Before I could take a step toward the door, his hand shot out, grabbing my wrist once again to keep me from moving.
“We can’t work, Xavier,” I said, my voice barely above a whisper. I blinked back the fresh tears stinging my eyes, purposely keeping my face turned away so I wouldn’t have to look at him.
Xavier kept his intense gaze locked completely on my profile. Even though I was not staring directly at him, the heavy silence stretching across the bedroom tiles told me everything. I could tell with absolute certainty that there was an incredible amount of raw pain in his eyes right now.
“Why?” he finally asked, his voice dropping into a low, painful whisper that vibrated through the quiet room.
I inhaled softly, forcing the cold air into my lungs, and then I spoke in a very firm, unyielding voice. “You have already made it completely clear to me in the past that you are simply not capable of loving anyone. And I am also not interested in loving you.”
“You are not interested in loving me, or you are just too damn scared to admit that you actually love me back,” he countered instantly, his grip on my wrist tightening just a fraction.
“I am not scared, Xavier!” I snapped back, spinning my head around to glare at him, my anger flaring up to mask my fear. “I just don’t want you! I don’t want your love! I don’t want your lies, and I absolutely don’t want to play these sick, twisted games of being with a dangerous monster that I know nothing about!”
“I am not a monster!” he snapped angrily, the volume of his voice making me flinch. But then his voice broke completely—it cracked so hard and so unexpectedly that the sound felt like a physical blade cutting straight through my chest.
I went completely still for a brief moment, my mouth parting slightly before I gently tilted my head to stare right into his face.
His dark eyes were blazing with a furious, chaotic fire, and I could see very clearly that he was trying with everything inside him to control the massive wave of pain breaking through his facade. He was a mafia under-boss; he had been trained to never show weakness. He explicitly didn’t want me to see him break down or lose control. But he was human too, despite the blood on his hands, so not every single raw emotion could be masked.
“Just because I kill people to survive doesn’t mean I am a heartless monster, Bunny,” he said, his voice shaking as he took a step closer to me. “And just because I said I wasn’t capable of loving before doesn’t mean I do not love you right now. It just means…” His voice trailed off completely, the words dying in his throat. He stared down at my trapped wrist for a long, heavy second before he finally forced himself to continue.
“It just means I am not capable of showing it to you properly. I might be completely unable to show you affection in the right, normal way. My father made sure of that.”
My muscles twitched the exact moment I heard that last statement. A cold sensation washed over me, and my entire body went completely still against the edge of the mattress. What did his father do to him?
“My father believed with absolute certainty that, to be a true, ruthless mafia leader, a person has to be entirely stripped of their desires and human emotions,” Xavier explained, his jaw tight as the dark family secrets spilled out onto the floor. “He believed that the massive responsibility of running our empire should only rest on the shoulders of a boy who has zero attachments to anything in this world aside from killing and taking power. And… after my brother died…”
I watched as the thick muscles in his neck and jaw twitched violently at the mere sound of those words. The mention of his brother seemed to rip open an old, bleeding wound.
“After my brother died, I was the very next in line,” he whispered, his eyes dark with ancient grief. “I was left completely alone to carry every single heavy responsibility of the family business.”
My heart sank instantly at the sound of those agonizing words. The anger I felt just a few seconds ago began to drain out of me, replaced by a sudden, heavy ache in my chest.
I have never seen Xavier this way in all the months we had spent together. As a matter of fact, he was a man of action; he had never had to speak much or explain his reasons to anyone in his entire life. People either followed his orders, or they suffered the consequences. But here he was, completely dropping his guard, humbling himself, and explaining his childhood trauma to me. Perhaps that meant something profound to me, even if I didn’t want to admit it.
What other horrific pain and abuse had he gone through in that mansion to turn him into the lethal man he was today?
“People always think that being born into a wealthy, powerful family is some kind of underrated blessing,” Xavier continued, a bitter, humorless tone coating his words. “But people don’t see the dark version of us that has to keep up with the horrific things we do not want to do. They don’t see the version of us that has our hands constantly covered in blood before we can even grow up. They don’t see the version of us that was raised to adapt to every single terrifying voice we hear in a dark, locked room.”
He paused, taking a ragged breath, and his eyes locked back onto mine with a terrifying intensity.
“I love you, Bunny. And I am never letting you go,” he added once again, his tone leaving absolutely no room for negotiation. He pulled my arm, dragging me closer to his large body with so much raw affection and desperation shining in his eyes that it completely overwhelmed my senses.
A confusing, chaotic mix of intense fear and deep understanding rushed through my body all at once. I understood his pain, but I was still terrified of his world. I gradually shook my head, trying to fight the pull he had over me.
“What you feel for me is not love, Xavier… It’s just obsession,” I argued, my voice trembling.
“Then let me be obsessed with you,” he countered immediately, without a single second of hesitation. His dark eyes searched mine while he tightened his grip around my wrist, pulling me so close that our breaths mingled in the space between us.
“Please… just let me hold your hands and never let go, Bunny. Please be the only thing in this miserable life that I never intend to let go of. Please.” He mouthed the last word against my skin, gently moving his large, warm palm up from my wrist to cup my cheek.
My heart pounded violently in both extreme fear and a desperate, aching need. Right now, I didn’t even know what to say to him anymore. My brain was completely short-circuiting. I just stood there, frozen on the tiles, staring up at the broken version of him that made my heart break for him, and the vulnerable version of him I never believed I would ever live to see.
Xavier’s gaze held onto mine completely, his eyes searching mine gently for any sign of surrender while he adjusted his firm grip on my jaw, tilting my head up.
Soon, the entire air around us went completely, suffocatingly still. The tension in the bedroom was bursting at the seams. Xavier gently began to lean closer and closer, his eyes dropping to my mouth, until his lips finally brushed gently against mine in a soft, agonizingly slow kiss.
A sharp, shocked breath slipped past my lips at the contact. The moment my mouth parted, Xavier suddenly moved his hand down to my neck, grabbing me firmly by the throat…..not to hurt me, but to possess me completely…. before slamming his lips roughly against mine. He captured my mouth in a very rough, fierce, and demanding kiss that completely wiped out every single thought in my head.
