Chapter 91 His Expresssion.
Chapter 91 His Expresssion.
Chapter 91.
Bunny’s POV.
My brows pulled together, and I stood up from the bed in absolute shock and surprise. I didn’t mean to run out of the room this time. I was just completely taken by surprise by what had just left his mouth. My mind was spinning so fast I could barely think straight. But even if I actually wanted to run away from him right now, who says I can? He was bigger, stronger, and completely controlled this entire house.
Before I could even take a single step away, Xavier’s hand shot forward like lightning, and he grabbed my wrist swiftly, his grip firm but careful not to hurt me.
“Don’t leave,” he said again, his voice dropping into a low register. His dark eyes turned really painful as he looked up at me from his position on the bed, begging me with his gaze to just stay and listen.
A heavy exhale slipped past my lips, my shoulders sagging under the weight of everything hitting me at once. I gave up trying to stand and dropped heavily onto the edge of the bed again.
“Speak,” I said now, my voice tight. I pulled my wrist out of his hand with a sharp jerk, refusing to keep my gaze locked on his. I looked down at the floor tiles instead, waiting for whatever crazy story he was about to tell me next.
Xavier let out a breath and slowly stood up, but he didn’t move away.
“It started when you first got bullied,” he began, his voice calm and steady. “The very first day I saw you on campus, I felt you were completely unique. You were always so gentle, so reserved, and completely on your own, matching your style and just keeping your head down.”
He took a step closer, his eyes scanning my face.
“But your kind of quietness didn’t feel natural to me at all. It felt forced. It looked like deep pain had pushed you into being that way, shutting everyone else out. And for some weird reason, something about that pain felt so familiar to me. It reminded me of myself. I wasn’t the kind of person to create a bond with anyone or make friends, so at first, I ignored it. I tried to walk away. But my heart had already recognized your pain, Bunny, so it became completely hard for me to ignore you after that. Every single time you got bullied by those rich pricks, I stepped in from the shadows and made sure they never dared to touch you again.”
He paused, his jaw clenching tightly. Even without going further, I believed this. At some point, I had new bullies but they never a came back again. They always disappear after their first bully.
“Not until Beige came along. She was smart. She knew exactly how to cover her tracks, and at first, I never suspected that she was the one orchestrating the attacks on you. Until…”
I watched as he blinked rapidly, hesitating for a brief second as if he were debating whether to say the next words before he finally let it all out.
“Until… the cliff scene.”
The cliff scene.
The words played over and over again in my head like a broken record. At that exact moment, my eyes widened in complete horror, and realization settled deep into my bones.
Wait. The cliff scene? The exact scene from our freshman year that had made me feel completely indebted to Daniel for all these years?
The dots inside my head connected instantly, and before I could even think about what I was doing, the words burst out of my mouth.
“You saved me?” I asked, my voice cracking completely.
Xavier didn’t say a word. He just nodded gently, his eyes locked on mine with absolute honesty.
My breath instantly turned heavy. My chest began to heave up and down, and I gently began to breathe hard as the memories rushed back like a tidal wave.
So he had been the one who saved me? That terrifying day at the cliff during freshman year, when Beige and her vicious girls had pushed me over the edge and left me to struggle for my life, holding onto nothing but a sharp, jagged rock on that cliff?
Hot tears rolled down my cheeks now, burning my skin as I remembered the absolute pain and terror that had come with that memory over and over again for years.
That day, Beige had pushed me over the cliff because she wanted Daniel all to herself. And all these years, I had always believed with everything inside me that Daniel had been the hero who arrived just in time to pull me up. I had stayed with Daniel, tolerated his toxic behavior, and put up with his absolute garbage because I thought I owed him my literal life. I didn’t realize the truth until the day I caught him cheating on me with Beige.
All these years, I had been indebted to Daniel because I thought he had saved me from falling. But Daniel never actually told me who did the heavy lifting that day. He just took the credit, and I never, in a million years, would have thought it was Xavier Thorne.
“Why did you never come to me?” I asked softly, trying my best to reduce the sudden softness and vulnerability in my tone, but failing. “Why did you let me believe it was him?”
Xavier let out a deep, bitter smile and a rough scoff, looking away for a second.
“I didn’t need your appreciation, Bunny. I didn’t need a thank you, an award, or anything else from you.”
“But now you do?” I asked, arching my brow at him as anger began to mix with my confusion. I sat up straighter on the bed.
Xavier turned his head back to me, and he just kept his dark gaze completely locked on mine for several more seconds, letting the silence stretch between us before he finally gave me a direct reply.
“Your love would do.”
An absolute, suffocating silence settled into the bedroom. I just sat there on the edge of the mattress, trying to replay his words in my head, but they didn’t make a single bit of sense to me. He was a mafia under-boss. He killed people without blinking. He was dangerous. How could he talk about love? It was too much. I couldn’t handle it.
I stood up quickly from the bed, crossing my arms tightly over my chest, and said, “I can’t give you that, Xavier.”
Xavier’s brows pulled together instantly into a harsh, angry knot. He stood up to his full height, his massive frame completely towering over my small frame as he stared deeply into my eyes.
“Why?” he asked. His voice wasn’t loud, but it came out in a very calm yet completely cold tone that sent a shiver straight down my spine.
I tried to open my mouth to give him a proper reply, to tell him that he was too dangerous and that my heart was already broken into pieces, but the words got stuck in my throat. I couldn’t say anything.
Seeing my silence, Xavier took a sudden step forward. He reached out, grabbed my hand tightly, and dragged my body closer to himself until I was almost pressed against his broad chest.
“Why, Bunny? Is it because I am a bad boy?” he asked, his eyes burning into mine.
“Yes!!!!” I snapped back, screaming the word right into his face.
The air in the bedroom went completely still. It felt like the oxygen had been sucked out of the room entirely.
Xavier and I just stared at each other for a long, intense second, our breathing heavy. Just when I thought he was going to calm down, or that everything was starting to get normal, his grip on my wrist tightened significantly. He yanked my arm, pulling my body even closer until there was absolutely no space left between us.
“You had sworn the oath that you are mine, Bunny,” he snarled, his voice dropping into a very deep, dark tone that sounded completely menacing. He kept his dark, cold gaze completely locked on mine, refusing to let me look away. “You can’t fucking leave me now, Bunny. You are mine. You belong to me, and I am never letting you go.”
