Chapter 188 Second Thoughts

Chapter 188 Second Thoughts
Lisa's POV

"We are going to find out where they live. I just want you to accept that you are going to be taking this step; it is not an easy one, Lex. In case you're thinking it is, it is not going to be easy, and even if they turn you away at first, you do not stop going because you owe your mother that."

There was a brief silence between all three of us now, and for a few minutes we only stared at each other while sometimes staring away from each other.

"Fine. I am going to do it, but I also need you to promise me that you are not going to leave my side, Lisa. I cannot do this without you; I cannot even picture it in my head without you, so I need you to promise me right now that you're not going anywhere."

"Oh my goodness, dude, she came on a trip with you. How else is she going to leave you now? I mean, I must admit I am envious of the both of you, and you make me sick with this coupling thing you do right in front of me." Landon snapped as he suddenly pulled out his sunglasses from his purse, putting them in while looking out of the window.

I giggled, and then it turned into soft laughter as Lex held my hand while the plane took its course. It was a beautiful flight, a peaceful one; I even fell asleep, and by the time Lex woke me up, we had already touched down in Boston.

Lex and Landon did a short research of the most comfortable hotel in the city, and by the time they found one, we were driving a few kilometres away from the airport. We got there, and Lex had booked an entire suite with different rooms, but just before he would pay with his card, he realised all of his pay cards had been deactivated.

Right then Landon stepped in and cleared the payment as we all settled into our rooms. We ordered lunch, but as we sat there in the living room, just Lex and I alone, I noticed he was lost in thoughts.

"I know this is not easy for you, Lex, but you need to brace up; there is more ahead of us than we can ever imagine, and I want to not only imagine the worst-case scenario because whatever is going to happen, we cannot quit."

I said to him, and instead of responding to me, he burst into laughter.

"I did not realise that I said something funny, Lex," I said to him, my voice calm yet commanding.

"No, it's not about saying anything funny, Lisa; it's about how you are the one pushing me this much when I always thought that I would have to beg you to go this path with me every time. You know I did not want to do this because I know that it would put your life in danger in a way, and I am hoping that there is a way we can bypass it, but I want you to know that I truly appreciate you, Lisa, and everything you do for me. I do not take it for granted, and I am going to repay you; I swear it on my life."

I found myself smiling at those words; those were the only thing I needed, his gratitude, not repayment. The fact that he was grateful for my presence, grateful for my support and grateful to me for taking out time to be with him at this moment was enough for me; I did not need anything else from him at all.

"We need to start searching for the location of your parents because if we go first for confirmation of the bond, whatever happens might trigger our next action, so we need to do what we know is also important and can come first," I said to him, and he nodded his head immediately as he was acting like a strange strength has suddenly illuminated him.

"I think I got a clue," Landon's voice interrupted as he stepped into the living room holding a laptop.

"What clue did you find?" I and Lex asked in unison as we both turned our gaze to him immediately as he approached and dropped the laptop right in front of us.

"I used your mother's maiden name and her first surname before she got married to your father, and I found this location uptown; it's looking like something that could actually be what we are looking for." He said this, zooming out a picture to us as Alex and I stayed at the picture. I was waiting to hear exactly why Landon would think that that could be the house we are looking for.

"Come on, dude, tell me if you've ever seen anything like this before, maybe inside your mother's stuff or something. Anything? Do you recognise anything in here?" he asked, staring at Lex, who was rather silent as he stared at the picture too intensely.

"Lex, are you okay?" I asked, my voice calm.

"I know this place. I've seen it in one of my mother's pictures; she took some picture right in front of this building, but after she died, I never saw those pictures again. I think he burnt them," he said, his voice weak and pained.

"Why will he do something like that? Why the heck will he do anything like that? "That is outright evil," I confessed, the anger in me rising.

"He did it so that he would cut him off completely from his mother's people. I don't know why his father believes that if one must be wealthy, you need to be alone. I do not buy that idea, and I'm worried that my father also buys the idea," Landon added, making me move my gaze between the both of them, wondering how they were able to survive such an environment as children.

"How did you guys live and survive this? I mean all of this?" I was genuinely curious.
