Chapter 187: Real Decisions

Lisa's POV

"You're the one who gave us the idea that we could go somewhere and have the mating bond revealed to us, and that is exactly what we are trying to do during this holiday. Lex is also using it as an opportunity to escape whatever his father is planning; at least by the time we come back, he would have a solid reason and evidence with which he can fight his father. That is the only reason I am going there with him, not because it's some kind of romantic trip," I said, trying to be polite in my words as I explained to my cousin, who is also my legal guardian, why I am going on a trip with two guys from school.

"I get it, I get it, fine, but I want you to promise me that you are going to be extremely careful. You're going to take a whole pack of pepper spray, and you're going to make sure that you do not regret this by the time you come back."

I couldn't tell why I was smiling now, but as I stared at her, I felt a leap of joy within me as I wondered what I would have done without her. Without the presence of a parent, she has been everything I ever had, and not for a single day did she ever make me regret the fact that I never had both my parents raising me.

Seeing the way she works and the kind of effort she puts in every single day always makes me want to be a better person, and that alone has been the inspiration that has driven me so far and has eventually landed me now in a position where I want to help a billionaire's son.

"I promise, Susan. 'I am going to do everything I can to make sure I come back in one piece, and I am not just going to come back empty; I'm going to come back with solutions to our problems,' I said to her, stepping closer to her as I threw myself at her, rushing into her with my arms wrapped around her in a tight hug.

Landon had suggested we leave the next day if Susan agrees, and just when she did, I texted Lex telling him she had, and he told me he was going to pick me up very early the next morning.

I woke up early, packed up everything I thought I would be needing for a few days' trip, and just when I heard a knock on the door, I rushed to answer it, and there stood Lex.

"I just got a call that my father sent some of his private security guards to my house to keep me in a home arrest, and he has now probably found out that I am not at home; he would be looking for me everywhere. We need to get to the airport as soon as possible," he said to me right there at the threshold, and just then Susan appeared in front of us.

"I cannot believe I am letting my sister go with you to somewhere I do not know, but I want to trust that you're going to keep her safe because if you come back here with her being hurt by as little as a strand of hair, I am going to make you pay, Alex."

It was funny how Lex always felt threatened by Susan's words and the way he stared at her whenever she was speaking, the way he always took steps back whenever he felt like she was approaching; it made me laugh.

"I swear it, Susan. I am going to take good care of her, and I also want to thank you for this. You do not know how much you are helping me right now; it means the world to me."

As I followed him into the car, I saw Landon sitting in the back seat; I never expected he was going to be in the car.

"Hi Lisa, it's good to see that you are up for this; we need to be on our way like right now," he said as Lex stepped on the car engine, driving as fast as he could, and just as we got to the airport, he bought three quick tickets to Boston.

"Isn't Boston where you said your mum's parents live?" I asked as we settled into the next available flight for Boston, which was leaving almost immediately.

"It is, but that is not the reason we are going, Lisa, so we need to go exactly where we want to go and return," he said to me, helping me do my seat belt as he held my hand while Landon sat on the right end.

"And when we come back, are you going to go again? I am not trying to push you, Lex, but I think this is a good opportunity to go inform them about your presence and how much you miss your mother. I am sure they are not going to turn you away; they are not going to take up the grudge they might be holding against your father on you. You are innocent, and the fact that you try to reach out to them is going to melt their hearts."

"I agree with her; besides, we are going to be having a long stay over there, so you have all the time in the world to go unite with your mom's people. That is the one thing you could give her now that she's gone; at least let her know that the grudge that was held and the malice are gradually fading away," Landon added, and that was the best support ever.

I glanced at him, and he gave me that smile, the one that shows that he had my back just the same way he had Lex's back.

"You know, I don't even know where they live. How can I go see them when I don't even know the basic things about them?"
