Chapter 185 Impossible

Chapter 185 Impossible
Chapter 185

He didn't seem to care one bit about what he had done to me; he just took her hand again and took her out on me, walking away as if nothing had happened.

It was not just my face that was aching from the slap he had landed on my cheeks; it was my entire body that ached, and I felt like the ground would open and swallow me, as the embarrassment was way too much.

I felt so ashamed that I couldn't look up at anyone's face; I bowed my head and walked away. I could hear murmuring and whispers in every corner I went, and of course I knew they were talking about us because what else could they talk about with such a crazy scene that just occurred?

I found my way to the female restroom, where I locked myself in one of the closets, and I couldn't help the hot tears that were already flowing down my cheek.

It has been a long time since I cried, not even since Lex started acting up. Most of the time I called his father to complain about certain things that he had done. I always faked tears, but there was never a time when I actually cried until now.

If anyone had told me in my world of imagination that Lex was going to raise his hand and strike me across the face, let alone because of a girl who was from the slums, I would never have believed it, not even for a second.

I was fighting the thoughts to call his father immediately and explain to him everything that had just happened, and this time around it was not because I cared about what his father was going to do to him; it was because I was worried about what the situation between him and his father was and how reality would be hitting me quick if only I were to call his father and realise that there was nothing he could do anymore.

Out of frustration I rolled out the tissue on the corner, throwing the rest angrily to the floor as I wiped the tears on my face. For minutes I was lost in thoughts; I wondered what I was supposed to do.

Just when I prepared my mind and made the decision to step out and not care what anyone says to me, I heard the restroom door open, and it was obvious that it wasn't just one person who walked in.

"That scene was super crazy; I actually thought there was something Selena could do with all those talks. She never expected that Lex was going to slap her like that," a voice I recognised very well to be Sydney, the girl that was supposed to be in my group.

"Honestly, I feel bad for Lex. Isn't it obvious that Selena has been throwing herself at him all this while, and finally he sees someone he truly likes, and she wouldn't let him? I think she's being obsessive, and it is getting out of hand. She had slapped Lisa like that even when what Lisa was telling her was actually true. She was throwing herself at him too much; it's fucking irritating."

This time around it was Pauline. I knew their voices individually, and I could tell who was speaking and who wasn't. How could they turn on me so quickly? How could they speak so ill of me even without hearing what I have to say about the matter?

The pain I was feeling at this point was super. They were actually the one I wanted to go to once I walked out of that restroom, yet they are the one talking about me like I never existed and like we were never friends.

"For the first time, someone actually put Selena in her place, and I love it for him. I love the fact that he's taking control over his life and he's not letting her dictate what he should do anymore. Despite how powerful and influential he is, she still seemed to have this hold over him, but now I think that hold is broken, and it suits her right!" Sydney says again, and I swore within myself at that moment that I was going to kill her once I stepped out of that restroom.

"Where is she? No one seems to have seen her since the incident. Have you seen her?" Pauline asked.

"No, I have not. I guess she's hiding somewhere trying to get over the shame that she must be feeling right now," Sydney said, and that was something I could not contain anymore as I pushed the door open, walking out now to face them.

"So this is really what you think of me? Exactly what you've been saying behind my back, and one moment, one moment that I am off on the worst day, you think you can talk me down?" I asked, walking closer to them now.

"Oh, Selena, I never knew you were there," Pauline said immediately when she saw me stepping behind Sydney, but Sydney didn't seem to care.

There was no look of remorse on her face as she just stood there staring at me with so much disdain in her eyes.

"And there she comes," Sydney said, air cooled, instead a wicked smile curling up on the corner of her lips as she stared at me.

"You, I always trusted you. I always thought you were really my friend; if only I knew you were never my friend and that you were only pretending to be. I would have cut you off a long time ago," I fired at her, stepping closer to her now.

"Please save your breath, Selena. You can save it for Lex, not me. You really thought we were friends? Well, news flash: we are not, and who seems to be desperately in need of a friend right now? Not me, not Pauline either."

"I am so going to make you pay for this, Sydney. You have crossed the wrong person. I am so going to make you pay."

"Is that going to be after you've found your way back into Lex's arms?"
