Chapter 181 Not Going
Chapter 181 Not Going
Lisa's POV
I could barely sleep that night as I kept checking my phone to see if he had responded to the text I sent him asking him if he got home safely. I knew that he was going through a lot at the moment, and I didn't want to also be a bother to him. The fact that I was the one who was being physically threatened doesn't mean that he was having a fair share of this. I knew how much he complained about his father's oppression and how badly he wanted to get out of his hands.
I couldn't tell the moment I fell asleep, but by the time I woke up, the sun was peeping through my window, and I just opened my eyes when it hit me that I didn't receive a response from him.
I quickly rolled to the end of the bed, grabbing my phone as I checked my chat to see that he had already responded around midnight.
A little breath of relief escaped my lips, and just as I was about to drop the phone, another text came in.
"I'll be at yours in twenty." Getting the text from him, I couldn't tell exactly how I felt the moment I read it, but something inside me seemed to jump for joy, or was it fear?
What exactly did he mean by 'he was going to be at mine in twenty minutes'? As a matter of fact, I was just waking up. How would I be fast enough and ready at twenty?
I quickly got out of bed, and as I walked into the living room, I realised that Susan had already left, and she had made breakfast.
There was a note on the dining table, and as I picked it up, I was surprised to see that Susan already did all of the chores that morning, and she wanted me to get to school early.
With that excitement, I tried to be as quick as possible, and just as I finished taking breakfast and grabbing my bag, I heard a knock on the door.
"I can't believe you actually think that I am going to go to school with you again? I mean, Lex, do I need to remind you of what happened the last time you tried to take me to school? I do not want to be in such trouble anymore," I said to him when I opened the doors to see him standing right outside with a smile on his face.
"Good morning to you too, Lisa," he said to me, completely ignoring everything I just said to him and how worried I was that he had come to take me to school again.
" look Lex I truly do appreciate this gesture but I am not coming with you" i said to him walking past him but he grabbed my wrist pulling me back to himself.
"I didn't come to ask you; I came to take you," he said to me, making me stare at him in silence for about three seconds, trying to wrap my head around what he had just said to me.
"And what exactly is that supposed to mean? Because the last time I checked, you do not give me orders, and I do not have to do the things you want me to do, remember? Come on, Lex, do not act like you're not concerned about this as well. What if Selena sees me going to school with you again? What if she tries to make a scene? Do you really think that I want to be caught up in this any more than I already am?" I asked him, but instead of responding to me directly, he gave me that nonchalant attitude of rolling his eyes, and he grabbed my wrist even tighter.
"Come on, Lex, let us talk about this!" I said to him, my voice louder now, and he didn't seem to care one bit.
"I have come here with only one reason, and I am going to fulfil that; else the both of us can just stay back home here. I don't mind staying here with you instead of going to that school where everyone gawks while living a very fake life."
He said to me, and I couldn't tell why exactly I found those words funny, but I found myself laughing at his words, and just then he let me go.
"Please, Lisa, come with me to school; I don't want to go to school without you."
"Is that supposed to be a pickup line? Because if it is Lex, it is super lame; it has got to be the lamest pick-up line I've ever heard."
"Okay, are you going to walk into the car or do you want me to carry you?"
"What?" I was staring at him, wondering if he was actually going to do what he had said, and just as I hesitated, he walked to me, wrapping his arms around me. He was going to sweep me off my feet.
"Okay, okay, fine, I will," I said, making him stop as I walked over to the car, got inside and sat on the seat beside the driver when he got in. The ride back to school was rather slow.
"How was it with your father yesterday?" After a long silence between us, I noticed that he was holding something back. Something he wasn't willing to talk about, but I needed to know because he wasn't in this alone; we are in it together.
" i honestly do not want to talk about it Lisa, it was terrible. I have always known my father to be a monster but yesterday I confirmed that is only an understatement his way beyond the monster"
"Come on, Lex, he's still your father; you cannot talk about him like that. I know he has done so many things to hurt you in the past, but you also need to not forget the facts that he is your father."
I saw the way he shot me a very angry look, and at that moment, after a second, I wondered if I did something wrong.
"Lisa, you do not understand the kind of person that he is, and right now I am not even pretending when I tell you that he is nothing good at all," he said, his voice now loud and angry.
" but do you agree that he is still your father no matter what he is?" I asked him just to be sure
