Chapter 180 No more
Lex's POV

Hearing that my father was going after Lisa's scholarship made my pulse race for a second as I tightened my grip on the car steering while driving slowly a distance.

Even though I tried to make it seem like it was not a big deal, I knew deeply well that Lisa's scholarship was everything to her and that she was not going to joke around with it.

"Lex, are you still there?" I heard Landon's voice calling out from the phone.

"Of course I am; I'm just wondering how I will be able to protect her from losing her scholarship because my father is not going to win this time. I would never let that happen," I said to him, and I could almost hear his scoff from the other end of the phone.

I knew that if I were to listen to all the advice that Landon had to give me at that point, I'd probably be doing everything my father wanted me to do because for some reason he was so scared of my father, as they think crossing him was going to automatically mean death for me.

However, I couldn't blame him because he and many others had seen the things my father could do, and they were right to be afraid, but at this point I was willing to keep up everything for her sake and not care one bit about what my father was going to do to me.

"Thank you, Landon. Thank you for telling me this. I'm going to think of a way to stop him before it gets out of hand, and I also need you to do something for me, please."

He hesitated for a few seconds before asking me to speak.

"Look, Landon. I do not mean to bring you into this, and I do not want you to get into any form of trouble with my father because I understand that you are very much worried about that, but all I want you to do right now is to keep this information away from Lisa. 'She's going to panic if she hears that my father is coming after her scholarship. I do not want her to be afraid,' I said this to him, hoping deeply within me that he was going to understand.

"Look, Lex, this is not about us withdrawing information from Lisa and keeping her in the dark; it's about what your father is going to do because, believe me, he's going to go after her, and he'll tell her everything he has in plan."

To a very large extent he was right because even if Landon kept the information away from Lisa, there was a huge chance my father was going to tell her himself or maybe somehow Selena would find out and she would rub it in Lisa's face. Either way, there was no guarantee that this information was going to be withheld from Lisa for too long, and the earlier I told her about it and let them know it was actually what we were facing, the easier it was going to be on both of us.

"Fine, I am going to tell her, and I'm going to assure her that I will protect her from this. I just need to do everything within my power to make sure my father doesn't win. Believe me, Landon, if I lose this chance, I wouldn't be able to fix it."

"I am honestly rooting for you, Lex. I am honestly rooting for you to win this fight against your father because not only is it going to grant your freedom, it is going to save you from an eternity of misery should you lose. You and I know exactly who your father is, and we know for certain that he is not going to forgive this if he gets to have the upper hand in it. You are going to suffer as well as Lisa and everyone else around you, so please do everything you can to win."

Apart from the meeting with Lisa that night and the conversation we had and the fact that we kissed, this was a moment I was grateful for: the fact that Landon was on my side and he was given me words of encouragement, not trying to downplay all of my effort, something I really expected from him because he would usually be one to make me see how everything I was doing was wrong and how sticking with my father was the only way to stay alive.

"Here I have no idea how much this means to me, Landon. I am deeply grateful, and I promise you I am not going to lose to him."

Whether I meant those words or not, that was not the point; it was the fact that I was deeply excited to see that it was not just I and Lisa in this. Landon was also on my side, and of course I knew Nick was.

"I'll see you in school tomorrow?" he asked.

"Actually, it is going to be a grand entrance; don't tell anyone I told you."

"What?"
