Chapter 179 Too Petty

Chapter 179 Too Petty
Lex's POV

As I walked back to the car, my own life began to reflect before my eyes as I remembered all the moments that I had given myself false hope that my father was going to change for the better and that the versions of him as I had seen were not truly who he was, but at this point I could not help but mock myself because he won't be one beat from who he is now. There was no change in him, not even an atom of it, and the earlier I came to agreement with that, the easier it was going to be for me to move on with my life and not hope for anything from him at all.

All the times when he hurt me and my mother, I never hated him; I couldn't bring myself to hate him not even once, but now the hatred was real; I could feel it in my bones. I didn't want to have any form of connection to him, and I wished that that desire could be made, but deep down I knew him very well; my father was not going to let me go easily even though he's seeing it clearly that I do not want to be a part of his programmed life anymore.

I had just gotten into the car when I got a text from Lisa. She was texting to know if I had gotten home, and I couldn't help but smile because even though I have friends who care about me like Landon and Nick, they still could not compare to the way Lisa made me feel.

It was way beyond the bro code; it was way beyond the fact that we understand each other as guys, and Lisa, she understands me more deeply than anyone has ever done except my mother.

I was going to text her back immediately, but a call from Landon instantly took my attention away as I picked up the call, placing the phone right in front of me while I ignited the car engine, waiting for my earphones to connect.

"I thought you did not stay up this late, Landon. Why are you calling me by this time of the night?" I asked him to drive out of my father's compound.

I was going to pack up, but I didn't want to create more scenes than I had already created. I didn't want to spend any more time with him there, so I needed to leave without my things and probably come back to get them later.

"We just received a call from your father, and he sounded very angry. What is going on between you two, Alex?" The way he spoke to me, he was even more concerned about me than the person who just called him to report me.

"I can't believe he is now so helpless that he thinks calling you is going to fix this. You do not have to worry about me, Landon; I'm going to be fine. I just need to teach him that the era where he controls my life is over, and now I am an adult, and I can do whatever it is that I want to do without him having to push me around like a toy."

I knew Landon very well. I knew very much that he wasn't going to agree with me instantly; he was going to want to point out the so many ways this was a very crazy idea, and I didn't even care at that point.

"Lex, I do not think you understand how serious this is right now. He didn't just speak to me; he spoke to my father too, and I am certain that he has a plan in motion, and you are not going to like it."

"Tell me, Landon, what exactly did he say to you? Did he ask you to come and advise me, talk some sense into me and make me see how wrong I am and how the part I am taking is going to destroy my entire future? Can you please tell me exactly in his words everything that he said to you so shamelessly?"

"Please let's talk about this; really, we've got to talk about this, Lex. Remember, you are not the only one whose life is at risk here; he's also threatening Lisa." I listened to him say that and paused for a brief second.

"Did he say something about her to you?"

"The conversation he had With my father, thank goodness the call was on speaker, and I think he's going for her scholarship."

"Her scholarship? How petty of him. What else did he say?" I asked, the curiosity in me rising as I was even more angered in the spirit.
