Chapter 172 Seems Like It
Chapter 172 Seems Like It
Lex's POV
The look on his face when I made that last statement was almost satisfying, but there was nothing my father was ever going to do that would make me want to take pity on him because he wasn't deserving of any of my pity but my hatred and my anger and my wrath.
"You think people can help you; you think associating yourself with people who are even not up to your standard is the help that you need in life. Lex, think again. The only help you need are people who have the might to help you, the wealth, the money, and the assets to help you read, and people that have all of those things are the ones that you should call family and not anyone else, not even your relative by blood," he said to me, and that seemed to break an ice in me as I stood frozen for a second staring at him and wondering exactly what he was trying to say to me.
"I don't know where you began to go wrong, Father, but I really feel sorry for my late mother now because I truly understand all the mess that she must have been through being married to you. I know if she ever gets a chance to live a second time, she would never pick anyone who resembles you in anything at all, even though it was the person who wears the same color of shoes as you.
"Your late mother was wise, Lex, unlike you always acting so foolishly. She knew what she wanted, and she went for it. I didn't force her to marry me; I presented her the things I had, I showed her how much I already possessed, and I made her see what the future would look like if she invested her time and knowledge in me, and she did so."
"To what gain, Father? Show me what she stood to gain in all of this if not pain and betrayal and hurt every single day until the very day she had no choice at all but to take her last breath even though you have been in bed with someone who wasn't your wife? Tell me what happened on the night my mother died because I know what I saw, and you cannot paint that. You might lie to the world about what happened between you and your wife, but she was my mother. I saw the pain she went through, and I saw how unconcerned you were about all of it. Tell me, what is that one thing about your life that you think I would want to imitate and look up to?" I asked him, staring at him now, and I knew very well that this path I was treading was only going to bring problems, but then I was ready to face whatever problems they brought as long as I was saying the truth to him and making him see how much of a jerk he was.
"There are a lot of things you could look up to in me, Lex, if not for the fact that you have been too stubborn and ignorant of the privileges you're going to gain from me. There's just so much that you're losing and ruining your future because if you act like this, I would have no choice but to abandon you."
"I have already been abandoned by you a long time ago, Father. When my mother died, I needed my father. I needed someone to be there for me. I needed someone to hold on to me, and even though I know that we were not close even when she was alive and you had always distanced yourself from this family, I still wish that you had by yourself noticed and tried to fix them, but no, you were so interested in your business and the fun you were having out there with all the female wolves and humans that you had no business with how your son was doing."
"You are not a female wolf, Lex, and the things you concern yourself about baffle me because tell me why you would hold a grudge like that after all these years when you're supposed to grow and become a strong and independent person."
"If your definition of being strong and independent means that I need to be hurt over and over again even by the people who were supposed to care for me as much as I care for them and hold on to me because we are the only two people against the world, but he's not doing that, then I do not want to be strong and independent in your definition. I am going to be doing things my own way, and you do not get to tell me how to live my life."
"Be careful, Lex, with the way you speak. One may think that you are ready to live life on your own and be cut out of this family, which is a wish I could grant you if you push me."
"I would give anything not to be your son anymore, Father; I would give anything to watch you pay for all the crimes you have committed in the past and even now. I will give anything to make sure that you do not get hurt by someone else again like you hurt my mother, but all of these things are things that are not in my control except one," I said to him.
"And what could that one possibly be? Indulge me, Lex. I am very much interested in the rebellion you're beginning."
"Rebellion? No, Father, this is self-awareness and taking control of my life, which is why I am telling you right now that you will no longer control me, but I will do things the way I deem fit, and you can go to hell with all your controls and instructions. I don't take that anymore. If you think the only thing you want to do with your life is fight me by using Selena, then it's okay; I'll keep fighting both of you, but I am certain I will never bend to your rules," I said.
