Chapter 162 Past flings

Chapter 162 Past flings
Desmond had delivered the punch he had so longed to deliver. He was now behind his steering wheel.
Contemplating.
Contemplating his current standing in his family and his current situation in life. He could no longer sit still, he could no longer bear to hold back just because they were his family.
He had not retaliated because of his grandfather's kindness. But now he had someone to protect, someone he couldn't risk.
Desmond had just turned the corner to his estate when his phone rang. It was a special ringtone he had set, just in case he wasn't close to his phone and she called him. Instead of rushing to the phone everything a non important person called, he set a special ringtone for her.
He didn't let it ring for more than three seconds before he swiped and connected it to the cars blue tooth.
“Hey,” he called out, as soon as it connected.
“Hello. Are you home now?” she asked.
Desmond's heart warmed. It was obvious that she was still worried about him.
He has never had the experience of being cared for and loved by anyone not even his grandfather. This was new to him.
His voice subconsciously softened. “Not yet.”
“Oh.” was her reply. The sound was long and heavy. They both stayed silent, each with their own thoughts.
And then he heard her sigh, there was a faint rustle on the other end before her voice came again.
“I'll talk to you when you get home.”
Before he could get his next words out, she hung up.
He stared down at the phone in wonder, and his car slowed to a stop. He couldn't shake off the loneliness he heard in her tone. He glanced at the time and then put the car in reverse.
Kalyssa sat on the small lazy sofa on the balcony that overlooked a wide area of unhabited grassy land. There were occasional sightings of little animals like rabbits and squirrels hopping around. A view that can put anyone in a good mood but not today’s viewer.

She took in a deep, sad breath and slowly blew it out. Dark clouds were beginning to gather and the little furry creatures were running around.
Kalyssa thought drifted with the wind. Thinking about her romantic life. Her first relationship was in high school.
Her first boyfriend was Greg.

At that time Greg and herself where just discovering themselves. They started as friends, enjoying each other's company, they were almost inseparable, so that everyone thought they were dating. Rumors began, speculations all around, until finally, they decided to date.
They dated for two days and decided the relationship wasn't for them and they liked each other as friends not as lovers. And then they met Candy.
Kalyssa didn't date anyone else until college, where they met Melissa. Melissa and Kalyssa were roommates through college and so they grew closer. Melissa introduced her to James and they started dating.
She thought she had meg the one for her but she was wrong. Now she's with Desmond.
They started off dating for mutual benefits but now…now she was catching real feelings for him and the incident today made her realise it.
She was falling in love for real this time and it scared her.
What was worse was the uncertainty of Desmond’s feelings for her. Does he like her? Or did he see her as just friends, or more than friends but not really love…
Kalyssa drew her knees to her chest and buried her face between her knees.
What was she going to do now?
Desmond was a perfect man. Handsome, intelligent, wealthy, has good character, also famous. And she…she was beautiful, no cap. She had a good educational background but she was divorced.
She had seen the comments of people bringing up her failed marriage when Desmond was mentioned. Many people were against them being together. There were hurtful comments like:
“How bad could she be for her ex-husband to have an affair with his cousin?”
“She has everything but still can't keep a man.”
“Anderson group CEO deserves a woman with a clean slate.”

Kalyssa groaned and pulled at her hair. She knew she couldn't look down on herself but it was hard not to.
Suddenly, there was lightning. Kalyssa raised her head to look at the clouds. The sky was dark now. She got up.
Time to go inside.
Just then she heard her doorbell ring. She paused. She wasn't expecting any delivery or any visitor.

She got out of her room and went to the ground floor. She checked from the camera first, and when she saw him she was pleasantly surprised.
Now that she realised her feelings, her heart sped up. She took a second to collect herself before pulling the door open.
“Desmond?” she called out.
Desmond raised his head to see the beautiful face in front of him. The storm in his heart immediately dispelled.
“Hi,” he said not knowing what else to say.
Kalyssa chuckled stupidly. “You have been here earlier. What brought you now?” she asked.
Desmond reached to his side and pulled something, it was a small luggage he had kept at a place she wouldn't see.
“I was hoping to stay with my girlfriend for a few days,” he said.
Kalyssa’s smile faded. Her heartbeat sped up again. She looked at his face, he looked serious. The way he looked at her urged her to agree.
“O-okay.” she finally said.

“Great.” he smiled victoriously.
Kalyssa opened her mouth to say something but closed it back when no words came out. Instead, she made a move to take his luggage but he avoided her hand.
“Don't worry about me,” he said before making his way inside. Kalyssa stood at the door in a daze.
She had just figured out that she was in love with him but here he was at her doorstep. Kalyssa raised her head to the sky, one of her brows raised.
‘Are you trying to tempt me?’
