Chapter 11 Good Woman!
The Lydia in his memory was pure and sweet. Arlo couldn't believe she would appear in the bar, let alone work as a night angel.
Night angels are pretty girls who liven up the atmosphere in bars. Most of them do part-time jobs to earn extra money, and they rarely accompany guests in drinking.
But the night angels at Dreamy Bar were different from those in other bars. They were all employees of the bar, paid by the bar.
In addition to livening up the atmosphere and attracting customers, they would occasionally accompany VIPs.
Seeing Lydia again, she was shrinking in the corner, constantly avoiding the hands of Yelo's men.
Arlo frowned and put down his glass, saying, "Lydia?"
Lydia's body trembled, and when she saw Arlo, she was both surprised and delighted. "Arlo? What are you doing here?"
The next moment, seeing the security uniform on him, she understood: "You work here, don't you?"
"Yes." He nodded, glanced at the thug next to her, and beckoned to Lydia, "Come with me."
Lydia hurriedly pushed away the thug beside her and ran to stand behind Arlo.
"Are you okay?" Arlo asked Lydia after sizing her up.
Lydia shook her head. "No, I'm fine."
"That's good." Pausing for a moment, Arlo said to Mr. Booth, "Mr. Booth, she's my friend. Please find another night angel for you."
Mr. Booth didn't ask much and instructed the PR manager to arrange another night angel.
Arlo poured himself a glass of wine and said to Yelo, "Yelo, this girl is my friend. I have something to discuss with her. Sorry for disturbing your guys, I'll have a drink as a penalty."
Yelo waved his hand nonchalantly. "Arlo, don't be so polite. Since she's your friend, take her away."
"Thank you, Yelo. I'll have a drink with you when I'm free."
"You go about your business. Don't mind me."
After exchanging a few pleasantries, Arlo led Lydia to the security rest area.
Seeing him bring Lydia back, Kian, with keen eyes, went out and conveniently closed the door of the rest area.
Silence fell in the rest area. Lydia lowered her head and didn't speak, fidgeting with her clothes.
After a while, Arlo asked, "Do you need money badly?"
Lydia trembled slightly, bowed her head, and said softly, "I... I need to earn a living..."
"Earn a living?" Arlo was slightly puzzled. "Didn't your parents give you money for living expenses?"
Lydia's eyes dimmed, pursed her lips, and said, "My parents don't give me tuition or living expenses. To be precise, they don't want me to go to college. They just want me to marry early."
"Marry early?"
"Yes, I have a younger brother who just started junior high school. They want me to marry early and go out to work to earn money." Lydia looked sad, her eyes slightly red. "But I don't want to give in, so I ran away from home and rely on part-time jobs to earn tuition and living expenses."
Arlo also grew up in the countryside, so he knew that rural people tended to have conservative ideas and favored sons over daughters.
"Do you know if Dreamy Bar's night angels need to accompany guests?"
Lydia panicked, "I definitely don't know. If I knew, how could I come to work here?"
Arlo squinted his eyes. "Then why didn't you just leave?"
Lydia remained silent for a while before smiling bitterly, "I paid a deposit. If I leave directly, I won't get it back."
"I'll help you get the deposit back. You're just a young girl. This place is too chaotic. You'll get into trouble sooner or later."
After saying that, Arlo walked out of the rest area, found the PR manager in charge of managing night angels, explained the situation, and the manager readily refunded the deposit to Arlo.
Holding the deposit, Arlo returned to the rest area and handed it to Lydia, who had red eyes, and she kept thanking him, "Arlo, thank you!"
The deposit wasn't much, just five hundred dollars, and Arlo didn't think it was a lot, even for Lydia.
But for Lydia, this five hundred dollars was nearly a month's living expenses.
"Don't be polite, it's just a small favor." Arlo smiled and shook his head, then asked, "I remember universities have financial aid loans for needy students, right? And there are scholarships too. I remember you telling me you're good at studying, can't you get a scholarship?"
"I can't get a scholarship..." Lydia seemed to recall something unpleasant, a flash of anger in her eyes, but she quickly concealed it.
However, Arlo could see through her, furrowing his brows he asked, "Is someone giving you a hard time?"
Lydia hesitated for a moment but chose to keep the matter to herself: "Arlo, don't ask. I'm fine. It's not shameful to earn tuition and living expenses with your own hands."
Arlo ruffled Lydia's hair and said, "Okay, I won't ask. Like you said, it's not shameful to earn money with your own hands."
Pausing for a moment, he chuckled, "You've got your deposit now, hurry and leave. Be more careful when looking for part-time jobs in the future."
Lydia's pretty face flushed red, seeming a bit embarrassed, she raised her head quickly to glance at him before lowering it again.
The more Arlo looked at her like this, the more he found her adorable, he couldn't help but tease, "Why do you look so awkward seeing me this time?"
Lydia hesitated for a moment, then boldly hugged Arlo and said, "I, I'm afraid you'll look down on me..."
Feeling the softness of her body in his arms, Arlo hugged her shoulders and lowered his head to smell the fragrance of her hair, "How could I look down on you? You've been deceived too."
"Arlo, you're really kind." Listening to the strong heartbeat in his chest, Lydia whispered, "Arlo, are you hungry?"
"What, are you going to treat me to a meal?" Arlo laughed, pinching her nose and said, "Let's skip the meal, save you some money."
"It's made by myself!" Lydia's cheeks reddened, feeling a bit embarrassed, she said, "I never eat outside, the food outside isn't as clean as homemade. Just wait for me!"
Saying so, Lydia pushed him away and ran out of the lounge, returning shortly after with a canvas bag in her hand.
Handing over the canvas bag, Lydia said, "Here!"
"What's good to eat?" Taking the bag and opening it, there were two plastic lunch boxes inside.
One meat and one vegetable, they looked quite appetizing from the outside.
Arlo had only eaten a bowl of instant noodles since waking up until now, and he was indeed hungry. He didn't hesitate, picking up the chopsticks and preparing to eat.
"Wait a moment, they're cold. Let me heat them up for you." Seeing a microwave oven in the lounge, Lydia quickly grabbed the lunch boxes and put them in.
Watching this cute girl like a little rabbit, Arlo's lips curled slightly upwards.
She's really a good woman!
Soon, the meal was heated up, and Lydia brought it over to him urging, "Eat up!"
Arlo took a bite and his eyes lit up involuntarily.
He hadn't expected the food to taste so good, but Lydia's cooking skills were indeed excellent, with color, fragrance, and taste all present.
He couldn't help but give a thumbs up and eat eagerly.
Lydia moved a small stool to sit beside him, occasionally using a handkerchief to wipe the sweat from Arlo's forehead.
After finishing all the food, he burped satisfactorily, saying, "If you ask me, you might as well apply to be a chef with your skills. With your cooking, you'd be more than capable."
Lydia blushed at the praise, quickly waving her hand, "It's not as delicious as you say!"
After a pause, she bit her lip and said, "If you like it, I'll cook for you every day from now on, okay?"
Arlo agreed immediately, just as they were about to talk, the door of the lounge was suddenly knocked.
Kian's voice came, "Mr. Johnson, there's trouble!"
