Chapter 65 Chapter Sixty-Five
Chapter 65 Chapter Sixty-Five
Dad doesn’t say anything. He just keeps shaking his head, looking at me like I am crazy or defective or something. “Please Dad, will you please just read the letter. It will help you understand. I was going to tell you; I just didn’t know how to tell you about what I am.” I whisper, looking down at the floor.
Dad takes a deep breath, letting it out slowly as he rubs his hand over his face. “I will read the letter, I just don't think you are a Legacy Wolf. It's just not possible, unless your mom was. I still don’t think that is something your mother would keep from me though. We told each other everything.” Dad says, looking directly at me.
“I will be right back. Please, just keep an open mind.” I say, before I run out of the kitchen.
I go straight to my room, getting the letter from my nightstand. I like keeping it close to me. It makes me feel closer to Mom in a way. I take a deep breath and make my way back to the kitchen, letter in hand.
When I come back through the kitchen door, Malakai is standing a good distance away from my dad. My dad is still glaring at him, he probably thinks this is just some joke or whatever. Something I came up with, just so I could be with Malakai, or the other way around. It's not though. I didn't ask for any of this and I don't have a way to change it. So, I just need my dad to accept it and accept me.
I hand my dad the letter and he looks at it for a second, before opening it. He starts reading over it, smiling at some parts. Probably just the reminder of my mom is making him smile. I know how much he misses her, and I know this is going to hurt him. Knowing she kept such a big part of herself from him, but he needs to know.
My dad's brows furrow and his lips turn up in a frown. He looks up at me and back down at the letter. The further he gets into the letter the more sad he starts to look.
He takes a couple of steps backwards and sits down in the chair he was sitting in when I first came down stairs. He shakes his head. "It's just not possible." He mumbles, more to himself than me or Malakai. I watch as he reads the letter over and over again.
"I'm sorry Dad." I whisper, squatting down in front of the chair he is sitting in.
He looks up at me with tear filled eyes. "Your mom couldn't trust me with her secret and you were scared of telling me. What kind of alpha was I?" He asks, voice a little shakey as he sets the letter down on the table.
"You were an incredible alpha dad, everyone loved you, everyone still loves you. You are the best dad anyone could possibly ask for and I know mom thought you were the most incredible person and husband in the world. She was just afraid. She didn't know what to do." I say, looking up at my dad.
He shakes his head. "You told Malakai, your mate. I was your mother's mate. She didn't tell me."
Hearing dad call Malakai my mate makes me very happy, but now is not the time for that. "Dad, Malakai was there when I found out. I mean he wasn't there for my first shift, but he saw my eyes change colors. We didn't know why I could sense him as a mate, and we didn't know what was wrong with my eyes. He just stayed by me and helped me figure it out." I say, giving dad a reassuring smile. "I know you would have done the same for mom."
Dad gives me a small smile. "I'm glad you had someone there for you honey, I wish I was here."
"It's okay Dad. I know you would be here with me all the time if you could. I just need you to get better, that's why I didn't tell you right away. I wanted to better understand who and what I was before I gave you the extra added stress." I say, smiling.
Dad takes a deep breath, looking from me to Malakai. "So, he is really your mate?"
I nod my head smiling, there is that word again. "Yes, he is." I say, glancing at Malakai.
"He's what you want?" Dad asks, and I laugh a little.
"Yes. He is. I love him Dad. I always have and you know he loves me just as much." I say.
Dad sighs. "I just hate that he is so much older than you and he's my best friend. At least he was." He mumbles the last part and I can't help but laugh, rolling my eyes.
"Dad, he can still be your best friend. Don't you know it's every girls dream for their dad to like their husband?" I ask, teasingly.
Dad's eyes go wide. "You better not have gotten married!" He growls and I laugh harder.
"We didn't, but we will someday. I hope." I say.
Malakai smiles at me. "Yes, we will."
Dad makes a disgusted grunting sound. "I don't want to see the two of you touching or any other nastiness. I don't want to have to break your arm or face." He says, threatening Malakai.
Malakai rolls his eyes. "You can try old man, but it won't work."
Dad scoffs and I laugh. There it is. The two of them bantering back and forth like before. This is what I wanted. I don't want dad to hate Malakai. I want him to know Malakai will take care of me.
"Neither of you will be breaking anyone's arms or faces. Otherwise I will kick both of your asses." I say, looking between the two of them.
They both laugh. "She probably could too. She is a hell of a warrior Tiberius." Malakai says, proudly.
