Chapter 77: Unusual

Chapter 77: Unusual

Edward was just about to make his next move when Donna suddenly buried her head in his chest, then went still.

"Donna?"

Edward called her name again, unwilling to give up, but all he got in response was Donna's steady breathing.

"You really are something."

Edward felt like he was going a bit crazy - the smallest gesture from Donna could completely mess with his emotions.

Suddenly, the car stopped, and Donna, in his arms, lurched forward. Edward reacted quickly and pulled her back, but now Donna was lying on his lap. Her warm breath came through his clothes against his skin, and the last thread of rationality Edward had been holding onto was about to snap.

"What happened?"

Edward kept his voice low, asking the driver with clear displeasure.

The driver was sweating bullets, too.

"Someone just ran across the road. We almost hit them."

Edward sighed, then gave instructions.

"Drive slower."

He'd barely finished speaking when Donna's hand started moving again. But where Donna's hand was heading next made him jump, and he quickly grabbed it, holding it firmly in his palm.

Drunk Donna was very restless. Even with one hand caught by Edward, she still had another hand and two legs.

"Why are you holding me? I need to grab the apple."

Donna opened her eyes, using her other hand to reach toward Edward's lap again. Edward had no choice but to use both hands, grabbing her other wandering hand and holding both in his grip.

"Donna, if you dare move one more time, don't you dare give up during sex when we get back."

Donna seemed not to understand what he was saying. She grinned, then tried to bump him with her head. Edward was out of options. He pulled her over to sit on his lap, using one hand to restrain both of hers, while his other hand held her head still to stop her from moving around.

Fortunately, for the next ten minutes or so, Donna grew drowsy from the alcohol. Even when they hit a bump in the road, it didn't wake her from her sleep.

They arrived at Grandview Estates.

Looking at Donna sleeping in his arms, Edward didn't hesitate - he carried her straight inside.

"Edward, why are you...?"

As soon as Edward walked into the house, he heard Robert's voice.

Edward turned his head to look at the butler with displeasure. The butler quickly explained.

"Mr. Russell came half an hour ago. I told him you weren't home, and he said he could wait."

This was Edward's private residence. Even Tristan and Beatrice rarely came here, let alone Robert. This must be his first time here.

Not only had Robert come, but Leo was there too.

Robert had just stood up when he saw Edward carrying a woman. Edward, worried she might be uncomfortable, had even lowered his head to soothe her.

"Who is this?"

Edward turned slightly, blocking Robert and Leo's view.

"My wife. Is there something you need?"

His intention to get rid of them was very obvious. Robert felt a bit awkward.

"Oh, it's Donna. Why did she drink so much this late at night?"

"That's my private business. I don't need to report it to you, do I?"

Edward was very unhappy right now, because Donna's hand resting on his chest was moving around again. Edward looked down and said quietly.

"Stop moving."

Seeing them interact like this, Leo felt a surge of inexplicable rage. If Edward hadn't suddenly appeared, Donna would be his wife, and Edward would be holding his nephew's wife right now. The thought made him furious.

"Uncle Edward, how could you let Donna drink so much? Don't you know she..."

Leo's next words were cut off by a look from Edward.

"Aren't you worried about the wrong person? If I remember correctly, the woman you were having an affair with is still pregnant. You should be concerned about her, not your young aunt."

Leo was stubborn, too. After Edward's comment, given his temper, he was about to snap back, but Robert quickly grabbed him.

"Since you have things to take care of, we'll leave now."

Edward didn't even glance at them, carrying Donna upstairs. Downstairs, Robert dragged Leo outside.

Once in the car, Leo could finally speak his mind.

"Dad, why didn't you let me say anything just now? Uncle Edward doesn't care about Donna at all. It's so late, and he let her come home completely wasted. He already has so much money, why does he still make Donna go schmooze people?"

Robert couldn't take it anymore and smacked Leo on the forehead.

"Can you make your brain work for once? Given Edward's position now, does he need Donna to schmooze anyone? Obviously, Donna wanted to drink herself. Aren't you being too concerned about Donna? What, now that the marriage with Donna fell through, you're starting to care about her? Where were you before?"

That one sentence shut him up.

But Robert wasn't thinking along those lines. Instead, he started talking to himself.

"I thought theirs was a marriage of convenience, that they didn't really have feelings for each other. Now it seems I might have miscalculated."

Leo thought about it seriously, then spoke up.

"It should be a marriage of convenience, right? Donna didn't even know Uncle Edward before, let alone have they ever met. That wedding last time must have been a coincidence."

Robert's eyes practically rolled back.

"Is that the point? The point is, he treats Donna differently. Maybe we can work through Donna, see if we can bring Edward down."

Robert was clearly the eldest son and entered the company earliest, but Tristan was unfair and only favored his younger son, Edward. If it weren't for Edward's disinterest, Tristan would have kicked Robert out of the Russell Group.

"Right, Uncle Edward has always stayed away from women. Any woman who showed interest in him, he'd deliberately avoid. And if they didn't get the hint, he'd make them pay dearly."

Leo had heard about someone who deliberately tried to get into Edward's bed. The person had already made it to the bed but got thrown out, and the next day, that woman's family went bankrupt. At the time, Leo was busy playing around with beautiful women and said Edward didn't know how to have fun.

Now it seemed Edward didn't dislike women - he just didn't like ugly ones.

Donna looks totally fit for Leo's taste. If he hadn't been called out publicly, Leo had thought marrying Donna would be fine.

"Now that we know the breakthrough point, I don't need to teach you what to do, right? I remember Donna has always had a thing for you. Just make your move and get her on our side. Then we'll have leverage against Edward."
