A Birth Scare

A Birth Scare
Gray's POV

There is one more month left and then I will be giving birth to a baby boy. I decided to be at work today. Mark wanted me to remain at home for the duration of the pregnancy. I have been feeling exhausted. The kids miss Mark's mother, we had to explain to them that she died.

Mark and I are focused on our family. We moved Lana to a different school. She was happy and preferred not to interact with anyone else at school. She still has Daniel as a friend. Mark doesn't allow them to sit in her room when he comes over to visit. Daniel had to sit in the lounge or anywhere that we could see them. That is Mark as a father. He can be too much.

"Mrs. Stern, the meeting is starting at 1 pm today, it is just a reminder," Donna says as she enters my office. My back has been hurting since this morning and it feels as if it is getting worse. I remain strong, I know what this is and I am trying not to make anything of it.

"Thanks, Donna," I say with a little smile. I place my hand on my belly.

"Are you okay?" she asks with concern.

"Yes, I am." I take a deep breath.

"If it's the baby, then you should take it easy. You weren't supposed to be in the office," she says.

"I needed to get out of the house for a change," I say to her, but then I gasp.

"Mrs. Stern?" Donna sounds panicked.

"It will pass," I say. I gasp again and I feel fluids. "I think my water just broke," I say.

" I'm going to call the ambulance and Mr. Stern," she says as she takes the landline phone, on my desk and she starts making the calls.

"F^ck," I mutter under my breath because it's getting worse. Mark better get a vasectomy soon because I cannot go through this again. I chose the worst day to be at work.

I attempted to stand but another cramp pierces through me. I grip the edge of my desk and I hunch over. I feel the fluids run down my legs. When I look down, there is a lot of blood. Immediately, fear kicks in. I never had this with the rest of our kids, only with Lana. I have one month left for this baby to come but he is coming today. I look up at Donna, she is speaking to Mark on the phone.

"Donna, something is wrong, I'm bleeding and it is a lot," I say, holding her gaze, her eyes widening.

"Mr. Stern, I don't think that will help her. She is bleeding and it is a lot. Meet us at the hospital." she says as she hangs up and she rushes to my side.

"This happened with Lana but it was early in pregnancy," I say, trying to remain calm.

"The ambulance is on its way and Mr. Stern will meet us there," she says, trying to remain calm too.

I breathe, closing my eyes, but I am terrified. This cannot happen again and I don't know what the reason for this one is.

"I don't want anything to happen," I say.

"Nothing will happen, you and the baby will be fine," she says. I nod as I breathe again.

Mark's POV

I ran out of Sternpoint and I rushed to the hospital. I am worried and terrified because this didn't happen with the other pregnancies after Lana. If we were careful enough then we wouldn't have had this.

It seems like forever when Gray arrived and she was in a lot of pain. I stand by her side, holding her hand in mine "Just breathe." I say calmly to her, but inside, I am terrified.

"Something is wrong," she says between a breath.

"Just relax and breathe. The baby will be okay." I said.

I remain by her side as she had to push. The baby is in distress. After so many pushes, I hear our baby crying. I kiss the top of her hand. I look at Gray but her eyes are closing "Doctor! We need you here!" a nurse calls out.

"What's going on?" I ask and I feel Gray's hand losing its grip on me and I look at her again. She tries to remain awake.

"Mr. Stern, we need you to leave." a nurse demands.

"No, I will not leave until I know what is going on," I say through clenched teeth.

"Sir, you need to leave this room." a nurse comes my way and pulls me away from Gray. I look at her again but she is weak and just lying there.

"She is losing a lot of blood." I hear another nurse tell the doctor. I am out of the door and I just stare at it after it has been closed in my face.

"This can't be happening, not my Gray. She can't leave me." I say as tears well up in my eyes and run down my cheeks.

"Mr. Stern, is she okay?" I turn around and Donna is standing by me.

"Not now, Donna," I say.

"Is it the baby?"

"I said not now!" I bark at her and she jumps. "Sorry," I say as I turn away from her. I wipe my tears away with the back of my hand.

After what felt like forever, the doctor came out. I miss Doctor Fairman, he delivered all of our babies except for this one. He moved to a different hospital.

"Would you like to see your baby boy? He is doing okay." the doctor says.

"I don't want to see my baby right now, I want to see my wife." I hiss at him.

"She lost a lot of blood and now she is getting a blood transfusion," he says. "She will be okay, we almost lost her if we didn't intervene quickly. You can see your baby in the meantime," he says and he walks away.

I almost lost Gray. My everything. I don't think I would be able to do life without her if anything had happened. I am happy that she is okay.
