Chapter 17

Mae

Jayden POV

The rest of my day at the office was boring, as I couldn't contain the anger in me. How could she have done such thing to me? How could she have cause me so much lose.

After what seemed like forever, I finally rounded up with the office work, and shut down my desktop, before standing up. Grabbing my car keys, I headed straight to the door, and opened it, before stepping out. I met Eve, sitting behind her desk, and without sparing her a glance, I headed to the door, and stormed out of the office. Walking over to the elevator, I stepped in, and waited patiently for it to take me to the first floor.

Minutes later, the elevator door rolled opened, and I walked out, before sauntering to the exit door, and once I stepped out, I headed straight to the parking lot, where my car was parked, an once I got there, I hopped in on my car, and ignited the car, before driving out of the compound, and soon, I was already on my way to God knows where. I don't know where I'm going to, but going home is the last thing on my mind, I just want to go to a place, where I can clear my head.

After driving for what seemed like forever, I stopped driving, once I got to a lonely road, where no vehicles nor humans were passing by, just the sound of the water under the bridge, clouding the atmosphere.

Letting a soft sigh, I threw my head on the headrest, and closed my eyes briefly in frustration, as everything came playing freshly in my head. I know the stress I went through, before I finally got the contract, I know my effort, before he finally agreed to sign the contract with me, and Eve just messed everything up. Even if she wants me to sack her, this is way too much, right?

After a few minutes of staying in that position, I finally opened my eyes, and stepped out of the car, as I was welcomed with the fresh soft wind, blowing gently on my face, swaying my hair. Walking over to the rail of the bridge, I held on it, and stared deep into the water, taking in the beauty of the nature. I think this will make me forget everything, I just don't want to feel disturbed.

The sound of my ringing phone jolted me back to reality, and letting out a soft sigh, I stood erect and reached out to my phone, which was in my pocket and checking the caller, I couldn't help scoffing. I mean, why the heck is Mae calling me? What does she wants? If you must know, Mae is my dad's best friend's daughter, and we've been childhood friends. The young lady wants us to have a thing together, but fuck love! I don't give a damn about that.

I rolled my eyes, and muted the phone, before returning it back to my pocket. I am in no mood for shits now, so she better leave me the hell alone.

After spending almost an hour there, I finally walked back to my car, and hopped in, before driving out of the place, and straight home. Since it's already getting dark, I think I'll just go to bed once I get home. I have no appetite to eat anything, my head is just all messed up, well, all thanks to Eve, that girl is a devil, she's the female version of Lucifer himself.

After driving for what seemed like forever, I finally got to our big iron gate, and after it opened, I drove in, and parked at the garage, before turning off the ignition. Letting out another sigh, I stepped out of the car, before heading to the entrance door, and walked into the house, not after inputting the pass code, unlocking the door.

Stepping into the living room, I was welcomed with the sweet of aroma from the kitchen, and I didn't need anyone to tell me that madam Rebecca is at it again. She knows best how to cook, but took bad that I'm in no mood to eat anything.

Stepping into the living room, I headed straight to the grand staircase, and started climbing it, when I heard my name, bringing me to an abrupt halt.

"Jayden? You're home?" Came the familiar voice, which I can always recognize, even in my sleep. Tilting my head to confirm my confusion, and satisfy my curiosity, I almost froze on my spot, as I was welcomed with the shock of my life, Mae? What the heck is she doing here?

"Mae?" I called surprisingly, as I turned to face her, while she stared up at me, with a smile on her face.

Running my eyes over her body, and that was when I realized that she was wearing an apron. Wait! Don't tell me she was the one cooking in the kitchen.

"What are you doing here?... I mean, when did you get here?" I asked unbelievably, while giving her s questioning look.

"Sorry for coming here unannounced, I've been here since morning, let's say as soon as you left home for work. I called you, but you didn't pick up." She said.

"Oh. What are you doing with that?" I drawled, referring to the apron on her body.

"Oh this? I was actually making something in the kitchen, I'm almost done. Why not go shower, and come down to have dinner." She said.

I stared at her unbelievably, like this whole thing is funny and crazy. When the heck did she learned to cook. I mean, the Mae I used to know, hates to cook, so seeing her so desperate to cook now, is so funny and crazy to me, but anyways, that's her problem to deal with though.

"Sorry, just go ahead with your food, don't bother calling me down for dinner, I got loads of works to do tonight, and I don't have appetite for anything." I replied, and without waiting to hear what she has to say again, I started climbing the stairs.

After walking through the hallway for minutes, I finally got to my room, and input the pass code, before stepping into my room. Walking into my room, I dropped my briefcase on the bed, and stripped out of my clothes, before dashing into the bathroom, had a quick bath, and got ready to sleep.

Sitting on the edge of my bed, pressing my phone, a knock came on the door, pulling my attention, and letting out a soft groan, I dropped my phone, and walked to get the door, but froze on my spot at who I saw...
