Chapter 73 73
Phoebe~~
Mount Avire was one I didn't know existed, and the way to it was narrow and bushy.
As the princess instructed, I stayed before her, running in my wolf form at the highest speed I could. Watching thoroughly from the background and directing my wolf on which way to take.
I hadn't known that being a silver wolf meant that I had other divine abilities, more than my wolf ability. It would have been so good if I had known about it before now, as it would have helped me to see a lot of hidden things behind me.
My journey to the mountain was kind of smooth, and I didn't bother turning around to know about the princess. I reached there, and my wolf, without getting ordered, began digging her claws into the ground desperately.
When she couldn't dig deeper, she began growling, running around and then returned to that exact spot and resumed digging it again.
‘Do you smell anything?’ I asked my wolf, and she snarled at me. ‘Just talk to me and stop acting like you're going crazy. Isn't he my mate too?’
She sneered, but finally responded to me, ‘I can smell the artifact here. It's deep in the ground,’ and then she continued digging the floor again.
‘If that's the case, then I have to transform and find what to dig it with.’ I said to her, but she didn't want me taking over us. ‘Are you deaf? You can't be this stubborn at this critical time.’
She ignored me and continued with her paw and claw, while I feared that it could be too late by the time she would happen to dig deeper into where the artifact was. I couldn't transform easily since she didn't want to, and her actions just now irritated me so much that I wished I could burst through her body and get away from her.
Due to how busy I was, trying to convince her, I didn't realise how long the princess watched behind us. She walked closer and swiftly shifted my wolf to the side, then stamped her lycan paw on the ground where my wolf was digging.
Before my very eyes, the ground split into several cracks, and then she shifted again.
My wolf jungled back there, and this time it happened to be easier. She dug desperately until we found a pole-like metal facing us.
‘Let's transform, okay.’ I said to her again, but she ignored me and wrapped her upper paw around the pole, then with every strength left in us, she drew harder until we found ourselves flying into the air…and landed with our backs on the floor.
Just when I thought it ended, we began rolling down the mountain without control. We groaned amid pain, yelped for help, but the valley was so long that it threw us down effortlessly.
We stopped rolling and couldn't even stand immediately due to the pain that coursed through our bodies. But by the time we seemed to be recovering, I smelled the presence of a werewolf behind us.
I tried to stand, but my wolf seemed so much in pain and only winced just like me.
At that state, I took over my wolf and transformed back to my human form, just to find out I was bleeding from my leg, and the bruise was too deep. I tried to at least sit up, but that moment, whoever it was, raised me over their shoulder and took off.
I couldn't even scream. My whole body ached. I wasn't even sure if what I pulled out from the ground was the artifact, and if the princess took it when it slipped from my hand.
The man who grabbed me didn't stop running for almost an hour, and when he finally stopped, I found myself laying on the chilly floor, just at the feet of the one person whom I hated the most as it stood.
I met his gaze, and the anger that roamed in me was one I didn't even try to quench.
“Tell me, what's the essence of getting the artifact when he is dead? I saw his corpse, and the full moon is already down, so what's the use of the artifact which you couldn't get when he needed it?” he roared at me, his expression contorted so much. “I don't like what I hate ever. You pushed me so much, and I don't have any choice now. If you hand over the artifact, I will let go of his sister and Levi's mate.”
My heart began throbbing. How did this devil come to know about Knox's sister?
That lady, without her memories, had lived in hiding for years. No one knew until tonight that I mentioned it to Levi, so how did it get out already? It couldn't be Levi when his mate was still under this devil's captivity.
“The more you waste time, the more I act discreetly, Phoebe. Don't be so foolish to betray your deceased family and hand over the artifact!!” he yelled, and I gasped for air as the room was so suffocating.
Who was supposed to be mad at each other? I do not even like my family any longer for what they did. What if Knox didn't care and took my life when I knew nothing about their crimes? They made innocent children orphans, and they lived helplessly for years.
I wondered what exactly went through my father's mind when he acted brutally like that and still claimed and worked like he was a saint. Was it just to bear the ruler of the pack? No one would know that he did such a thing with how he took care of the pack.
“Phoebe!!!”
“Do your worst!!” I retorted at him, breathlessly, dizziness clouding my mind. I seemed to be losing so much blood from the bruises, and maybe this was how my death was to happen. “You won't get it, and I will still die regardless,” I said amid the pain that ran through my nerves.
I lay weakly on the floor, not even staring at him, who stiffened and was glaring at me.
No doubt, the princess must have caught the artifact. And once Knox is revived, he would come after his sister and betas' mate, so even if I died here, I would die peacefully with no regrets.
