Chapter 72 72
Phoebe~~
Beta Levi returned with a healer a few minutes later, then the princess ordered him to do acupuncture on Knox. I still sat on the floor, my eyes puffy from so much sobbing, while watching what the healer did to his body.
I seriously didn't understand what could be done to a dead person, but I knew damn well the healer wouldn't be called if there were no means to revive him.
When the healer was done piercing his whole body with the needles, he turned to the princess, “What could this do to a dead person? He isn't respirating…” but the princess sent a cold glare towards him, and he lowered his head in apology.
“Since Beta Levi had announced his death, not even you would leave this room until he's revived. His life is in our hands now,” the princess said and then turned to me. “Come over, you're his mate, and your blood can as well go a long way.”
I stood from the ground and walked towards the bed where the alpha lay. I bit my index finger and fed my blood into his mouth gradually, until the princess ordered that I stop.
“Now that he's this way, it would take more than an hour for him to resume breathing, so why don't you take care of your mate now, Levi?” Her voice sounded so concerned as he turned to beta Levi, who wore that surprise look.
Did Beta Levi have a mate already? I never thought of that.
“Lay him in a casket and have Dean see him with his eyes so you can take back your mate. Have it happen before an hour elapses, and make sure they don't succeed in burying him, by convincing them that he would dissipate into a black magic smoke, so there was no need for that.”
Beta Levi walked closer to the princess. He stared at her for heaven knew how long before asking, “I would have asked how you knew about it if I didn't know what you are like. But, what's the certainty of this working out? I'm on the verge of forgetting about my mate…because I can't either betray my alpha.”
“That's why you have to be fast before Phoebe returns. But could you have the chief guard get me the world map? I have to search for the route to Mount Avire there,” the princess stated before turning to me and putting on those smiles that irritated me in the past.
Beta Levi bowed to her and left. I walked closer to the princess and asked her, “What do you know about his mate? I never knew he had one.”
After she explained everything to me, I finally found a reason to hate Dean so much. How could he take an innocent soul captive, just so he could gain his respect and have him work for him? Beta Levi was so loyal not to betray Knox even in his lowest, and Knox doesn't seem to know about his mate, or he could have discussed it.
Soon, Beta Levi returned with the chief guard who came with the map the princess mentioned. She spread it on the floor and just stood beside it, watching.
“Mount Avire is very far from here, but if you transform to your wolf form, it wouldn't take so much time. I'm going to race with you, because I also have to find the source of the pin used on me in the library,” the princess said, staring at the map.
When she was done, she turned to Levi, “Phoebe might not return with me. I'm only going with her with my own motive against Dean.”
I didn't flutter, because I had already made up my mind.
Levi didn't seem to know that I already found out about the past, so he opposed the princess. “My alpha would live in guilt or even commit suicide if she dies. This is why he refused her to get the artifact.”
“But you also don't want your alpha dead. So, who among them are you choosing?” the princess queried him, looking so mean.
I shook my head and walked closer to Levi. I took his hand and locked eyes with him. “I already found out everything about my family, and so you shouldn't worry about my death when you know that I deserve it.”
“I follow my alpha's order, so why should I let you die?”
“You also don't need him to die, because he has to meet his sister,” I added and let go of him. “There's a remote land in the human land. If you ever reach there and search thoroughly, you will find his sister.”
Levi furrowed his brows. He didn't seem to understand what I meant, so I went ahead to explain how I met the lady and what she was like.
“At least, I won't regret too much recalling that the two pups in the family survived. Promise me you will have them meet each other once he's awake.” I said to Levi, while watching as his eyes became clouded with tears.
It really looked like a dream, but I'm glad it was turning out the way it was.
I wasn't fated to live, and that's just it.
Princess Avire took me out of the room herself, and in the hallway, I said to her, “Can I see my friends? I'm not even sure I would ever see them again, so we should bid goodbye….”
She pressed her lips together and let go of my hand. “Do you really want to do this from your heart? Remember, you knew nothing about your father's offense, which was why Alpha let you live. If you think you shouldn't make this sacrifice, then no one would mandate you.”
I lowered my face, sniffing back my runny nose. “I have to do it, not to please anyone, but to also pay back his kindness to me. He saved me and turned out this way. Despite claiming to hate me, he's treated me with utmost love and care all through my stay here. So if I'm his only hope to live, I wouldn't mind giving out my life." I responded and wiped my cheek. “My father did dirty, and none of his generation was supposed to live. Knox only let me live out of his love for me and nothing else, so I should be grateful for the little time I spent on earth.”
She pulled me into an embrace, patting my back. “I seriously hate it this way, because I'll miss you badly. I blame the goddess for giving the werewolf I'd been searching for this kinda fate, but I wouldn't question her too much. I will protect you until you get the artifact, and if I could do that till you return, it's very wonderful. I'm only scared because I don't know what will take your life; if it's something I can manage or not.”
My tears already soaked her dress by the time she let me go. My heart ached so much because I would miss my mate, the one I'd blamed for months, not knowing I was the guilty one.
If I could get a chance to apologise for the times I hated him and thought of taking his life, then it would be so precious to me.
I met with Angeline and the slave mistress, and watching those tears stream down their faces made me want to go under the ground. They knew everything about me and still loved me, and now I didn't have enough time to stay with them and show how grateful I was.
The princess and I entered the woods soon, and she ordered that we transform to make the journey faster.
“Don't stop running, so remember the way I showed you. I will be behind you, guarding you, so you can only focus on your journey,” she said to me from the background, and I yelped in response.
