Chapter 17 17

Chapter 17 17
Phoebe~~

I was too shocked when I woke up to not find Knox beside me. I thought he must have left for his daily business, as I was irrelevant to him, and he must be trying to avoid any feelings for me.

First, I complimented myself for doing a nice job, and I was going to repeat it several times until he would decide to go feral instead of hiding his feelings for me. Once I achieved that part of him going feral, then I would try convincing him to mark me so I wouldn't be claimed by any other before he died.

For a possessive man like him, he wouldn't hesitate when the feelings cloud his thinking. His wolf would succumb to it so easily as well.

I sniffed and wiped my lips, then got down from the bed. It took me just a few minutes to freshen up and get ready to leave. He had ordered that I not show up before him and in his room again, but such an order wouldn't be obeyed by a princess like me.

As it was, I had plans which I needed to accomplish, so I would be back later.

I was almost at the door when it opened, and Levi walked in. He looked at me from head to toe and nodded. “I am here to take you away. Alpha ordered that you don't show…

“He already told me, so make a way for me to pass.” I interrupted, and he shoved his body to the side. “Have a nice day, both of you,” I said and waved my hand at him while heading down the hallway.

By the time I was finally out of the main building, I turned towards the slave quarters. “I have to meet the slave mistress. I need her help.” I mumbled under my breath, with my arms folded across my chest, while staring at the long way and the ladies walking past me.

I began leaving, humming and walking as fast as I could. I reached the slave mistress's quarters, and she was preparing her bedding, so I rushed and helped her to get it done.

“Princess, how are you today?” she asked, smiling at me.

I just didn't know how I felt as he used my title to mention me, but I wanted to believe she wasn't mocking me somehow.

“Ma’am,” I raised my head and started. “Is there a way I could get a contraceptive from you?”

“You really need it all the time,” she uttered and nodded. “I'll get it ready for you,” she assured and left the chamber.

I stayed there and waited until she returned with a card of medicine, and I first checked the content to be sure it was indeed a contraceptive, then I swallowed it with the cup of water she helped me with. I released a heavy breath, sure that I wouldn't get pregnant for that asshole of an alpha king.

“You didn't go to the club last night. Was it because of Angeline? Is she truly going to be executed?” she asked, taking a seat, and I did as well. “I heard she's imprisoned and would be executed tonight.”

My eyes widened. “Tonight? It was supposed to be tomorrow at noon.”

She shook her head, “I guess Alpha didn't want to delay it. I feel so sorry for the lady.”

I couldn't stand the thought of losing someone like Angeline. I planned to help her escape the castle tonight, and it was like Knox knew my plan. “She's not supposed to die when I took her there. I was so stupid, wanting to use the library there, and I planned to help her escape tonight. Now what do I do?”

The slave mistress leaned closer, staring at my face like she was searching for my words. “What do you mean you planned to help her escape tonight? How was it going to happen? Do you want the alpha king to go after her entire pack?”

I didn't realise when I scoffed. “Pack? Angeline is an orphan rogue. She was taken in by the alpha of Crescent Moon Pack…

“You mean, alpha Dean?” she chipped in, and I rolled my eyes. “That's the alpha of Crescent Moon Pack.”

I gasped. “I see. Angeline doesn't know his name, nor do I.”

“What? She doesn't know the name of the alpha who took her?" She sounded so shocked, but I didn't want to drag things with her. “So, if the alpha took her, then why was she here, and even in the club?”

With the way she asked, she wasn't aware Angeline was a spy.

“Alpha Knox would execute anyone from other packs. He hates them so much,” she added and frowned.

I came closer and took her hands, then narrated everything about Angeline to her, except the part that she was a spy. Instead, I told her that Anegline escaped on her own and found solace in their pack.

Her jaw dropped in pity. She didn't anticipate such a story.

“If that's the case, then she should leave and not die after all those sufferings. Alpha doesn't care, because he passed through hell a lot too.”

Passed through hell a lot? As in, he murdered people, and that was hell? I snorted.

“Then you should help her at noon. I have a knockdown gas that can serve some purpose. When you spray it around, the guards would become unconscious, so you have to wear a nosemask; both of you.” The mistress narrated, and there was this sincerity in her eyes. “Just do not hurt anyone, or I wouldn't stand by you.”

I nodded. Hurting anyone was equal to death, so I had no reason to do so. I planned to help Angeline, but didn't know how. And truly, I was going to ask the mistress for help, because it seemed she had everything I always needed.

She brought the bottles of knockdown gas and handed them over to me. It was in smaller bottles and looked like they were sealed, making me wonder what she even had them for. Were they all trained to have weapons of all sorts? She could have a gun with her, too.

“Once you enter, unseal and throw each bottle into each passageway. It will release slowly and fill the air, then everyone without a mask would go unconscious. Have Angeline wear a mask before you throw into the place she is staying,” she explained, and handed them all to me.

I was still checking on all of the bottles when she came with a tray of her untouched meal.

“Look, I can easily get another for myself…but you have to pass through with this. Tell them you have to feed your friend, and they will let you go in. Alpha king doesn't starve prisoners,” she added and dropped the tray beside my feet.

I felt so grateful and didn't know how to thank her. She made it so easy for me, and I hoped to achieve my aim.

“You have to start going, so you can come back without being suspected.”

I nodded and stood, then packed the bottles in the pockets of my long dress, but it didn't fit.

Again, she handed me a long dress that contained all the bottles without anyone noticing, then I grabbed the tray of meals and headed to the prison yard.

As I reached, the guards confirmed who I came for and had me taste the meal, then I was allowed to go in. I entered the prison building, and as the mistress instructed, I threw the bottle of gas into each passageway, unsealed, after getting the direction to her cell.

Neither of the guards suspected.

I reached the cell, and it was unlocked by a guard, then I walked in. I placed the tray on the floor and had Angeline begin eating, then I carefully slid the mask given by the mistress into her hand.

She looked up to me, and I signalled her to put it on, which she did immediately, then I unsealed another gas and threw it out of the cell slowly. We waited until all the guards passed out, then we sneaked out of the cell together.

We had to follow the back gate out of the prison yard, then, with the help of Angeline, who seemed to know the way out, we were able to jump out of the castle through the fence, in our wolf form.

I groaned painfully as I landed on the floor and somersaulted, and when I stood on my paws, Angeline was behind me. ‘You have to start leaving from here. Make sure not to go to the Crescent Moon Pack.’ I said to her through my mind, and she purred at me.

‘Thank you, Phoebe. Extend my gratitude to the mistress.’ She responded, and I chuffed.

She was about to leave when I inhaled the smell of a silver bullet, so I called her attention back. ‘Can you perceive it too? There is danger ahead, and I can't tell where it's coming from.’

She sniffed and then said to me, ‘I perceive it too. I can also inhale the gangs.’

‘Gangs?’

‘The alpha of Crescent Moon Pack sends gangs after you,’ she replied, and I quickly turned upon hearing the sound of footsteps from behind. She turned as well and growled. ‘They are the ones. I think they are here for you, Phoebe, you have to return quickly.’

But the smell of silver was now very strong, and when I looked around, there were guns pointed at me from different corners. It made me wonder how long they'd been behind the palace fence, waiting to see a glimpse of me. How did they even get in without Knox knowing?

‘Phoebe, what are you going to do?’ Angeline asked and immediately let out a howl before dashing towards me. I didn't realise one of them had fired a bullet at me until the sound echoed, and Angeline dropped to the ground still in her wolf form.

I howled again and again, before transforming back to my human form, and looking at the wolf before me, covered in blood, I was scared she was going to die. There would be no way I brought her out here to die.

“Now!” I heard one of the men command, and I knew the bullet would be at me this time, so I shut my eyes and ears, waiting to just pass on with my friend.
