Chapter 18 18

Chapter 18 18
Alpha Knox~~

I had just stamped one of the petitions brought to me by Levi when I heard the howling of a wolf. My wolf howled as well, and I looked around, but I was alone in the office. I put down the stamp and made my way out of the office, then mindlinked Levi, asking if everything was okay.

‘Alpha, the guards at the prison yard are all unconscious. They seem to have inhaled a knockdown gas.’ Levi responded to me.

I hurried to the prison yard immediately, and he was telling the truth. My guards and warriors stationed there were all unconscious, and since the gas was still in the air, I pulled out my shirt and masked my nose with it before invading the building.

Levi stumbled upon me, panting.

I grabbed his collar, looking him straight in the eyes, “What is it? Did anything happen?”

He pointed backwards, "She's missing. The spy is missing.”

The first person my mind hit on was Phoebe, and trying to confirm by her scent would be a waste of time. So I got off instantly, heading to the back gate of the prison yard. How fast she was to save someone who should have been executed tonight. Was someone behind her? Who could have given her the gas?

‘Gather everyone and search the whole palace, while some should come after me.’ I ordered Levi through mindlink and then pulled out the guns I hid in my trousers. I would shoot the spy and have Phoebe slump with a shot on her leg, so she would mind her manners. I was too soft to her, and was beginning to hate it.

If she had seen the cold side of me, she wouldn't be that stubborn, taking matters into her hands. Did she know that the lady was a spy and still went ahead to save her? Then it would warrant a higher penalty because I won't spare her ass for pushing me to the extreme this time.

I smelled the presence of my men around, hanging at different places, and when I reached the fence of the palace, Phoebe’s scent slammed my nostrils, and my wolf whimpered.

‘Don't harm my mate! You don't dare, Knox!’ my wolf warned, but I wasn't going to listen to him this time. Besides, I was nothing but a living dead person, so nothing was left for me.

I jumped out through the fence only to come face to face with Phoebe, naked and sobbing beside a wolf whom I guessed to be the spy. I was still trying to understand what had happened, but the sound of fired bullets resonated in the air.

Phoebe jerked to her feet upon smelling my presence. She kept pointing at the wolf while my lustful wolf grunted at the sight of her nakedness. She didn't care either, and her eyes were all red from her tears.

“Please save her! She's still breathing,” she pleaded, going to her knees. “They shot her with a silver bullet. I don't know them, but they wanted to shoot me too.”

One would think she was so innocent with how she kept pleading, but I alone knew how sly she was.

My eyes dropped on her firm breast and hardened nipple staring at me. I bit my lower lip and averted my gaze, only for my wolf to snarl in my head and push my neck back to her again.

She got that irresistible body, and I didn't want to have anything to do with it again, so I quickly pulled out my shirt from my lower face and had her wear it first, so I wouldn't get drawn to her nude.

Levi mindlinked me that moment, ‘Alpha, six men hanging around there were shot at their limbs and would be taken to the cell. They seem to be planning on taking the princess away alive before we arrive.’

I sighed and put back my gun. ‘Alright!’ I acknowledged his message and turned to Phoebe. Who were the men after them, and how did they invade my pack? If they shot the spy and wanted to take her away alive, then it meant that they were here for her and not the spy.

That moment made me recall the man who almost took her life back when she escaped the first time into the woods. I didn't bother to investigate who those men were because they weren't in my pack. But this time, something was going on, and I needed to have the gammas at the border answer for this.

She held my hand, drawing me out of my daze. “Please save her, I'm begging her. Don't let her die.”

I hissed, "She's supposed to be executed tonight, and you know that, right? Why don't you bother about yourself first?”

“No!” she shook her head. “I took her there, so let her be.”

“You're not serious.” I pulled her up by her arm, about to drag her away, when she wailed so loud, and my wolf pounded my head repeatedly. ‘Knox, you don't dare do anything that would make my mate hate me,’ he warned, and I stopped. ‘But I really want her to hate me.’ I responded to my wolf and continued walking.

I planned to shoot the wolf once we reached the fence, but Phoebe bit my arm, and I forcefully let her go. I looked at her, and she was holding a knife to her chest; my eyes bulged in shock.

When I checked my pocket, I noticed she had taken the knife there.

“I'll kill myself if you don't save her. She can't die when I cause all these,” she yelled at me, tears rushing down her face.

My fingers tightened in anxiety. I hated how soft I was becoming from those tears on her cheek, or was it the knife she was holding?

If I wanted her dead, I could do that easily. So watching her take her life was a no for me.

“Knox, I should be the victim and not you. It really doesn't make sense living with the man who made me homeless. So, I could just take my life here if you're not going to save my dear friend,” she screamed out in full force, and I shuddered. “You want to know if I can do it?”

I shook my head, trying to reach out to her, but she stepped backwards. “Fine! I own your life, so you don't have to do that yourself. I'll save your dear friend, I promise.”

She still didn't believe me, but signalled me to come carry the wolf before she dropped the knife, and I didn't hesitate.

I reached the wolf and squatted, then began sharing my alpha energy with it so she could transform at least. I looked up, and Phoebe was heading to the fence, but I didn't need to act rashly until I confirmed what she was after.

She picked up a dress from the floor, then walked closer to me and dropped it, so I didn't need to know it was the lady's dress.

When I was done, I stood up and turned my back on them. “She could now transform, so we take her to the hospital.” I didn't turn, but heard her telling her to transform.

I turned when she told me to, and the lady was lying lifeless on the ground, wearing her dress.

“I put on her dress for her, but her pulse is slowly fading.” She was still in tears, and I hated it.

If not for my alpha energy, she would have died already. I reached the lady and raised her into my arms, then I turned to Phoebe, “You aren't jealous that I'm carrying your friend, right?”

Her eyelashes raised, “Jealous? Are we still dating?”

How stupid I was to forget about that…
