Chapter 199 Eva’s scheme
The sudden voice came from the doorway.
Eva turned and saw Butler Rose.
“Butler Rose, thank goodness you found me. Where is Maverick? Please don’t believe anything he says. He wants to kidnap my child,” Eva explained.
Killian rolled his eyes. “Hi, Mom,” he said, sitting on a chair while trying to placate the crying kid.
“Mom?” Eva repeated in surprise, looking from Butler Rose to Killian.
“You are his mother?” she asked in shock.
Butler Rose stared at Eva indifferently before walking over to take Havilah from Killian.
“You both are not fit to be parents. How can you be traumatizing a child with your incompetence?” she scolded.
“Eva can be a handful sometimes, Mother. It’s not my fault.”
She ignored both of them and dropped kisses on Havilah’s forehead.
“It’s okay, baby. Nana is here now.”
Avi sniffed. “I want to go home… I want Daddy.”
“Why does she keep asking for Daddy when I’m here? It’s high time we told her the truth. I hate—”
“What the fuck is going on here?” Eva screamed.
“Both of you, get out. Until this child goes back to sleep. Now!” Butler Rose ordered.
“How dare you talk to me like that, Butler Rose?”
“If you want to survive, you should let go of your stupid ego. See her out, Killian,” Butler Rose said.
Two hours later
Butler Rose had managed to put Havilah back to sleep. The child was too little and soft-hearted to go through what these broken adults were putting her through. It was going to leave a dent in her life.
She opened the door to the living room. Eva rushed up to her.
“How are you Killian’s mother? How is it that none of us knew?” she asked.
“Well, thanks to your father, it was kept a secret,” Butler Rose said.
Eva didn’t understand at all. She didn’t want to know either. She just wanted this to end right now and believed her father would sort everything out.
“Where’s my father?” she asked eagerly.
“Dead,” Butler Rose said matter-of-factly.
Eva screamed.
She bawled her eyes out, shaking her head over and over.
“No… no… My father-in-law can’t allow that. It’s not like he killed Boyle or maltreated him. He… he just kept him there…” she said hysterically.
“You are just as evil as your wicked father,” Butler Rose said, her voice dripping with venom.
Killian moved toward Eva, holding her shaking frame in his arms.
“Mother, did you have to spill the news to her like that? She is still grieving her mother and now her father. Be kind, please.”
“You should detach yourself from her, Killian. She will be the end of you, and I will never allow it,” she barked.
“I will gladly die for her, Mother. Either you support me or you walk out of my life like you know how to do,” Killian shot back.
Butler Rose felt helpless.
The relationship these two had was already wrong, and now her son was threatening her with it. This girl was a ticking bomb and she didn’t feel comfortable with her at all.
She sighed.
“I will arrange a new identity for the three of you. I will raise enough funds for you to live comfortably and start afresh. It will be ready anytime, so prepare yourselves and wait for my signal,” Butler Rose said.
Killian nodded.
Butler Rose stayed with them for a few hours, offloading the items she had brought. Killian tucked Eva into bed and left the room.
Her eyes opened immediately after he left.
Killian went to meet his mother in the kitchen.
“Killian, you know this is wrong. She’s your half-sister, and having her with you is dangerous. I’m scared. Havilah is yours. Why don’t you just take her and go?” Butler Rose voiced her fears.
“Mother, please. You promised to forget that. My father died a long time ago. Edward is not my father. Let’s stick to that. Eva is my life. She goes where I go. You don’t have to feel pressured to help us. You can leave if you don’t want to,” he said before turning to walk away.
Butler Rose pulled him back and dropped a kiss on his hand.
“How can I not help my only son? See, Maverick still thinks Havilah is his, and he is out searching for Eva. Make sure she doesn’t leave this house.”
“It’s okay, Mother.” He hugged her and kissed her hair.
“I have to go back to Richard’s mansion,” she said softly.
“How’s it over there?”
“The first young miss is back, and she decided to take care of Boyle. The atmosphere is tense. Everyone still can’t believe it,” she explained.
“Mother, we should all leave Ivory City together. Edward is dead, and there’s no need to stay there again. I want to experience my mother’s love too.”
Butler Rose just smiled.
After she left, Killian went to Havilah’s room before returning to his own room, which he now shared with Eva. He slipped under the duvet beside her.
Eva turned and connected her lips with his immediately.
When she pulled away, they were both breathless.
“I thought you were sleeping,” Killian asked.
“I woke up not long ago,” she said.
“Killian, I have decided to accept my fate now. Things are never going to be the same with Maverick. I don’t want to hurt Avi anymore. I’m going to tell her who her real father is. Let’s go somewhere far away. I want to start afresh with my life,” she told him, her eyes glistening.
Killian was shocked by what she said.
It had always been what he wanted.
“Eva, I promise to make you happy,” he said, wiping her tears. “I will take you away from here, okay? In a few weeks.”
She kissed him again, deeper this time.
He groaned into her mouth.
Later, breathing hard, she fell back onto the bed.
Killian dropped a kiss on her forehead.
“I love you, Eva. So much that even a lifetime wouldn’t be enough to prove it,” he confessed.
“You have already started proving it,” she smiled at him.
“Can I go check on Avi? I hurt her earlier and I want to apologize.”
“You can.”
She glanced at the wall clock.
“She’s usually hungry by this time. I don’t know how to cook. Can you prepare something for her?” she asked.
She went to Havilah’s room.
The little girl was awake, looking at the stars swirling on her walls. She stiffened as soon as she saw Eva.
“Don’t run away from Mummy, okay? I’m so sorry, sweetheart. Mummy lost her mother and father, and she is going through hell right now,” Eva said as she sat at the edge of the bed.
“Will you be happy if Mum and Dad are gone?” Havilah thought for a moment and shook her head.
“That’s why Mummy feels so unhappy,” she sighed. “Can you give me a hug? I’m sad.”
Havilah got up and wrapped her arms around Eva’s neck. Eva gathered her into her lap.
“Mummy, is Uncle Killian my daddy? He said that earlier,” she asked innocently.
Eva glanced at the door.
“Never, baby. You know who your daddy is already. Look at me.”
Havilah looked up at her.
“Uncle Killian is bad. But in order for him not to hurt us, we have to play along until Daddy comes for us. I have a plan. I just need you to play along. Can you do that?”
Havilah nodded.
“You will call him Daddy from today onwards so he doesn’t hurt us, okay? I will find a way to speak with Daddy so he can come take us.”
“Okay, Mummy.”
She kissed her daughter’s head.
Her eyes glinted darkly
