Chapter 198 Plan B II
She held her chest in pain.
“What Plan B?” Maverick asked.
“Infiltration,” she said. “I disguised myself as a maid to be in Edward’s house while my sister was to be in this house, since she wanted to kill the little one so badly.”
Maverick’s hand tightened.
“You both wanted to end an innocent little girl that had nothing to do with any of this.” His voice rose an octave.
“My father, my family were innocent too!” Bianca screamed back.
“Maverick, let her speak,” Richard placated him.
“I assumed my role. That day I was in his study going through things when I heard a sound. I hid at the back of a curtain. I saw a man come out of a room. He picked up the landline, trying to make a call. Some men burst in through the door, smacked him in the head, and tied him up. When they left, I came out. I was shocked to see Boyle Richard. He was there alive. It changed my whole perception about the revenge.”
She dug her hand into the bed.
“I ran out and called my sister. I told her everything. She said she was being tailed and she couldn’t escape, but she was going to make something good out of it. She said to check her stomach if it got worse.” She shook her head, her lips trembling.
“I didn’t understand. The call disconnected. I called her over and over again. The next thing I saw was them pulling a bag to the dungeon. I suspected it was my sister. When you came, I wanted a way to tell you your son was in there. Maybe you would have reacted and done something to save my sister, but you never came,” she sniffed.
“I went to the dungeon and… and…” she whimpered, “my sister was dead on the floor. I remembered her saying to check her stomach. So I used a knife to open her up and I found a recorder. I listened to it and edited the sound to make it clear. Since there’s usually a half day off for each servant in the Edwards’, I swapped with a lady and came here to give it to you…”
She wiped her tears and stood up.
“But it fell into the hands of the wrong person. Something my sister died for…” She raised her head and looked at the ceiling. Then she looked back at them.
“Does that answer your question now?” she asked them. “My only regret is not killing him myself… but since it’s done, I will take my leave.”
“You won’t be going anywhere,” Richard told her.
“I already told you the truth. What else do you want?” she roared.
Richard looked at the girl. She was young and kind and broken, hiding behind her foul mouth.
“You should be there when your father and sister receive a proper burial and are awarded for their heroic deeds to Ivory City,” he said.
Bianca looked at him in surprise.
She squatted on the floor, placed a hand over her face, and cried muffled sobs. Her shoulders shook.
“Thank you for bringing my son back to me,” he told her before leaving through the door, his eyes burning with anger.
Maverick trailed behind him shortly after. His route changed toward his brother’s treatment room.
Richard sighed.
“Maverick, I think there are other things to be worried about than interrupting a husband and wife,” he said.
“Don’t make it sound like that. It’s only on paper. Otherwise she’s mine. My woman,” he shot back at his father.
“She was never yours. You just coveted her… let her be from now onwards.”
“We have a child together, father.”
“So what? Your brother can’t have children. Let’s say you did him a favour by helping him have one through his wife.”
Maverick looked at his father in disbelief.
“I don’t understand the family politics being played here, but I won’t allow it. She is off-limits.”
“She has already decided what she wants.”
“Only mine stands.” His jaw ticked hard.
Maverick continued walking toward the door. He was going to take her away.
“You should be more worried about the whereabouts of your daughter.”
Maverick’s feet paused. He turned fully.
“Eva took her away last night. Go bring that child back home,” Richard said before walking away.
Eva bit her fingers and kept her eyes glued to the television news. Tears streaked down her face.
What did this mean? What was going on?
If Boyle had truly been found, then everything was over for her and her family.
Killian was on the phone. He stayed there for a while before coming to where she stood.
Eva rushed to him immediately.
“What did you find, Killian? Where is my father? What is going on?”
He shook his head.
“I don’t know yet… my mother will soon be here.” He held her hand. “Calm down, okay.”
“Stop telling me to calm down! How can I be—” she screamed.
“Mummy?” Havilah called, scratching her eyes. She had just woken up from sleep. “Where is Daddy? He said he would be here when I wake up.”
Killian’s hand tightened at his side. His jaw ticked.
Eva walked up to her and squatted to reach her eye level, using her palm to rub the little girl’s cheeks.
“Sorry, sweetie. Did I wake you? Daddy is kind of busy. Don’t worry, he will come get us soon, okay?”
Havilah’s eyes looked at the news playing on the television.
“Will Daddy not want me anymore? I didn’t mean to tell him about the man in Grandpa’s office. He saw it in my drawing book.”
A sob broke from Havilah’s throat.
Eva’s face contorted. Her hand tightened on Havilah’s cheeks.
“I thought I told you never to draw that again!” she screamed.
Havilah broke into full-blown cries.
“I’m sorry, Mummy.”
“Evangel!” Killian growled her name loudly.
Havilah flinched.
Killian lifted Havilah off the floor into his embrace.
“Don’t you ever hurt or yell at my child again.”
“She is my child, not yours. Killian, give her back to me right now.”
Killian scoffed.
“So you were aware Boyle was your father’s prisoner and you kept quiet so you could be with Maverick?” he asked in disbelief.
“I’m glad you have seen how far I’m willing to go to be with him. Killian, give me my daughter now!” She lunged to take Havilah.
The little girl wailed loudly as they both fought over her.
“Let’s say I hand her over to you. Where do you plan on taking her to?”
“That is none of your business. Leave me alone! Leave us alone!”
“You don’t know how helpless you are now, huh? You think the Richards will take you back? Pathetic!”
“Stop it, both of you!”
