Chapter 155 Did you ?
Eleanor’s hands paused on Maverick. Her face went pale. She quickly covered it up.
“Who?” She asked.
Maverick jaw locked tight. He pulled away from her and ran his hand through his hair.
“Mother, don't play dumb with me!!!. Did you know Heaven was pregnant when you threw her out in the middle of the night.” Eleanor bit her lips.
Richard roared at Maverick. “Do not speak to your mother like that,”
“Tell her to answer me then!” He roared back.
He turned to his father. “You said you already made plans to take her away. Why would she suddenly leave a day before?”
Richard had thought back the same thing when his wife had told him she suddenly left. He had concluded maybe the young girl couldn’t bear Mavericks torture anymore.
So gently he turned to Eleanor.
“Darling, tell him it’s not true.”
Eleanor had carried the secret long enough, she could air it out now. She had nothing to lose.
“So what if I did?” She lifted her chin up “She is a whore sleeping with different men. How could I let her stay in this house, desecrating where and praying for my sons soul,”
The atmosphere went still.
Maverick stared at her as if seeing a stranger. Richard’s face hardened into shock, betrayal, the slow collapse of a carefully built lie.
Eleanor lifted her chin, defiant even as her hands trembled at her sides. “I was protecting this family and you..”
“How did you protect me?” Tears slipped out of Mavericks eyes. “Lying that I denied my own child. When you in fact never called me? How could you?”
“If news gets out how do you expect the public to look at this family? We have upheld our respect and you won’t tarnish our image. You slipped, made a mistake and touched her. It doesn’t make that bastard yours. There is video evidence of her and a servant and her in a restaurant with another man…”
“ELEANOR!!” Richard roared her name in disbelief and anger.
She flinched.
“The same family image that drove Boyle to his death?!” Maverick growled. He had never spoken about his brother's death.
Eleanor gripped her cloth tightly. It wasn’t a conversation she never wanted to have. She shook her head
“T-that’s not true,”
“Telling him to get married when he can’t give her children just to shut the rumors killed his ego, you belittling him time and time again.Making being around you a living hell that’s why he went on that mission. Did you forget?”
The house fell silent.
Eleanor would never forget that day had haunted her for years. The last time she saw her first son was him angrily signing the marriage certificate and not coming back.
Maverick stepped closer to his mother.
“You were letting out your grief on her. Making her fast until she was malnourished and dehydrated just to soothe your bleeding conscience.” He turned her ruthlessly.
“I never slipped. I touched her and enjoyed doing it. You threw her out because of your worst fears. Embrace it because that child is mine. Do you know what happened to her that night? She was hit by a car while carrying your first grandchild!!. I hope to God you had nothing to do with the thugs who chased her.”
He regretted she had to suffer under the same room he was in and he turned a blind eye to it.
He was indeed selfish all he cared about was the satisfaction he got from being inside of her.
Eleanor saw the way her son looked at her with hatred and her husband looked at her in disappointment. “I had nothing to do with the thugs chasing her. There are videos of her with men s-o..”
“That video was fabricated by your dearest daughter in law. You were successfully manipulated..” he said breathing heavily now.
“I will be filing for a divorce. Mother just knows you lost your last son.”
He turned and walked out.
Heaven had barely gotten a whim of sleep. She opened her curtain to look out. The gate had been fixed, the car had been removed, his blood that stained the floor was wiped off.
She moved to the bathroom, looked into the mirror and splashed water over and over to ease the ache.
She heard a knock.
The door opened Fabian walked in with a bouquet of red roses. He had a pleasant smile on his face.
“Hi,”
“Good morning,”
Fabian was trying so hard to pretend like he hadn’t heard what she had to go through in the past and just act normal so she wouldn’t dwell on it anymore. He would give her a new life.
“The freshest roses for the most beautiful girl in the world,” he said, dropping a kiss on her cheeks.
Heaven blushed. “Thank you, they are so beautiful,” she said, inhaling the sweet scent.
“You are up so early , I thought I would find you still sleeping,” He tucked a stray lock of hair behind her ear.
“I should, but I have to take Liam to school,” she explained.
“I can do that or have Rayan do that,”
“Yes I know, but I want to register Rebecca in school. She’s not used to being in new places yet. And I also need to explain us to Liam. You know how sensitive he can be.”
Fabian nodded understanding fully.
“Okay, I will arrange for two bodyguards to go with you,”
Heaven opened her mouth to protest but she understood he was scared he didn’t want her to come across Maverick again.
Fabian suddenly opened a case in front of her revealing a ring with diamonds glinting under the lights. Heaven looked up to him.
“When you asked us to get married yesterday my reaction was off. I want to make it right. I know it’s not the best way to propose but I can’t help it. I have loved you patiently for years but right now it feels I can’t wait any longer. Marry me Vera.”
Heaven blinked, for some seconds she didn’t give a reaction. Then she smiled and brought her hand.
“Yes. Thank you for giving me a second chance in life. I do love you Fabian,”
Fabian slid the ring into her fingers, then kissed her hand. He leaned in and dropped a kiss on her forehead. Her sweet smell filled his nostrils. He moved lower to kiss her, she took two steps back creating a safe distance between them.
