Chapter 154 Did you know?
The car went silent for a while. “What other ways?”Guilt flashed across his face like he really wanted to know ways to fix things right.
Samantha had no answer to that. From the little she had heard things were a lot more tangled up. He was married and had a daughter. She was his sister in law and had his child and was abused by him and his family. And he still lied to her just to get in her pants again.
She pulled over in front of a hospital. “Get yourself treated. You are Liam’s father after all. You should look forward to telling him the truth.”
Inside the treatment room, Maverick sat rigid, not flinching at the pain as the doctors stitched the cut on his forehead . Samantha watched her hand crossed over her chest watching the needle pass through his skin . Her phone pinged.
It was Vera. She had asked her to take
Hi Sam.
Was what the text read but Samantha knew what it meant so she texted back.
We are in the hospital. The doctor is currently stitching his wound.Dont worry he is fine
The status switched to typing, it stretched into seconds before she
Okay showed on her screen.
Then a call came in from Rayan. Her eyes turned wider than a tray pan.
“Excuse,” she said and walked out of the room. She had to organize her lies so she wouldn’t get busted. Rayan can’t know she took Maverick to get treated, else he would find out Vera sent her and it wouldn’t be fair to Fabian since they were both engaged.
A few minutes later she walked back to meet an empty room. There was no nurse and Maverick was gone.
She squinted her brows. She stumbled out and walked to the front desk. “I came in with a man earlier.. he had a tear on his head. Did you perhaps see him?”
“I guess he ditched you,” she murmured nonchalantly, chewing gum.
“Did you say something?” Samantha asked the reception nurse her eyes daring her to repeat it.
“He already left,” she became a bit gentle.
“I thought as much,” she brought her phone. “How much is the bill?,”
“There’s no need, it’s been cleared.”
Maverick's mind hadn’t left Heaven’s words; each one stabbed him enough to hurt. He had hurt her but no he wouldn’t let her go. He never denied Liam. Even though at that time he doubted her, he would never have denied her too when he touched her countless times. She mentioned his mother. It was Eva’s doing right? He didn’t want to believe it.
His hand shook, he pressed it on his leg to steady it.
“Captain, are you alright? Should I drive you back to the hospital” Sergeant John asked worriedly. Maverick had called to pick him up from the hospital.
He turned and glanced at John. He had a suit and a blue bow tie on he looked like he was in a middle of a date when he was called “No, I am fine just drive to the Richard’s,”
“Okay,”
“You know this wasn’t an order. You should have declined it if you were busy.”
John gave a nervous smile. “Captain, you said to pick you up which you have never done before. I thought something was up because you had called earlier to give you a coordinate. I had to come. Don’t worry I came with her, he pointed at the back seat.”
Maverick turned slightly, a lady sat there quietly, wearing a blue dress she smiled at him,
“Good evening sir” she greeted.
Maverick nodded.
“She doesn’t mind it sir. I explained it to her,” John told him.
“There’s a house at Avalon Estate. It’s block 22B. You both can have it.”
John stepped hard on the break thinking he heard wrongly. “Sir…”
“What’s up with Maverick? How could he zoom off like that when his wife and daughter are in a critical situation,” Eleanor spoke. “I mean if he doesn’t care about Eva what about his daughter and all my attempts to call him has been futile,” she sighed while redialing again.
“I barely managed to calm Kiara. I told her Maverick is occupied with work and stressed.. but he has to be called to order. Seriously.”
On Richard's screen was the familiar face of the girl who had married his first son. He understood immediately what Maverick had been doing lately. No wonder when he had asked for them to find her he had kicked against it and seeing the message on the screen.
She was getting married to the son of the oil Tycoon family. Old man Johnson. They both had history.
This was going to be messy.
30 years ago: ivory city had just come out from a war. The president and the senators who had led them out of it turned greedy and turned their back on the citizens using the relief funds for themselves. Kids starved while they enriched their pockets.
So a secret organization named The black face was created to restore order where the government failed. They stole from the government and fed it to the civilians. There was him Richard, Adison his step sister, Edward, Oliver aka old man Johnson, Vincent and some other members who joined later.
They walked in secret for 4 years until tragedy struck. They had obtained evidence that the president was laundering the people’s funds and had planned to expose him in a secret meeting. The secret venue was attacked with a bomb killing over hundred people in attendance.
He, Adiso, Edward and Vincent had arrived a little late but had witnessed the explosion. Oliver arrived later. A picture surfaced showing Oliver had met with the president leaking the secret of the organization causing hundreds to die.
The Military took over. The group got dismantled. Everyone blamed themselves. Oliver the traitor disappeared and reappeared years later as old man Johnson. The ruthless underground kingpin.
“Sylvester, you are not saying anything. We have to do something about Maverick—”
Eleanor’s voice pulled him out of his thoughts.
“I will have him sent away on a mission.” He said coldly, opened the door to the car, came down and walked into the house. He couldn’t have Maverick causing havoc because of his stupid obsession over Heaven.
Eleanor brows squinted. She got down and walked after him.
She caught up with her husband inside the house. “What do you mean sending him away on a mission? I want him to be present with his family. Just so his attention can be with them.”
“To a soldier his country comes first. There is unrest in the northern region. They need more hands there.Eva would understand this and we have to explain to Avi…”
Maverick showed up at the door, the bandage on his forehead and the blood that stained his shirt. He wasn’t like this when he left.
“Maverick, what happened to you?”
Eleanor held her heart in her hands and ran past. She held his cheeks with both hands, panicked. Her hands racked over his body searching for possible injuries.
“Sylvester! Come ask your son what is going on!..” she screamed at her husband. General Richard looked at his son knowing fully well whatever happened to him had something to do with Heaven.
Mavericks eyes stayed on his mother.
“Did.. you know mother? His voice sounded broken.
“Know.. what?”
“That she was pregnant when you threw her out?”
Richards eyes widened.
