Chapter 36 Goodbye

POV: Raphael

We just arrived home. It's late at night. I'm tired and ready to sleep. Most of all I'm ready to see Haven. Lillian and Caroline followed behind me as we drove home.

Lillian and Richard went straight to bed as soon as we got here. I on the other hand had to go check on everything. See what needs to be done or if any problem arose that need fixing.

Caroline is still up walking around. I think she's happy to be home. I'm glad to have her back to but she is still to be away. After this week she is gone. An evaluation hearing of her and her mother's behavior will be held at the end of the year.

Then we will decide weather they need to stay back or if they can come home or not. I'm still concerned of Caroline after hearing what I have about her from Court.

After I've made sure everything is fine I go to my room. On my way down the hallway Caroline approaches me. "Hey daddy. I've missed you." She says. Awe thats my sweet girl.

"I've missed you too. How have things been going with you?" I ask. "Great. I'm doing well daddy. I do miss Penny though." She says sadly.

"Why didn't she go with you?" I ask. "Well she didn't want to leave even though I begged her to go with me." She says.

I wonder why that is. Penelope has always followed Caroline. "That doesn't sound like Penelope." I comment. "I know. She even accused me of not loving her enough because I was the one leaving. Can you believe that."

"No I can't. Where is Penelope anyway. Perhaps you two can talk this over." I suggest. "She went to bed already but I just want to talk to my daddy."

"We talk away sweetheart." I tell her. It's been a while since we've done this. "Well how is Haven doing?"

"She's good. I marked her." I tell her. "Oh that's great. So when will she be my official step mommy?"

"I don't know. Whenever the time is right." I say. "Where is Haven now anyway?"

"She's in our bedroom. She's upset right now and depressed." I tell her. "Yeah I bet Catalina is taking a toll on her. It is to all of us."

"How are you doing with all of this?" I ask her. "I'm sad. I miss Cat. I feel so sorry for Cameron that he will be without a mother. I can't even imagine."

"Cameron will be ok. He has all of us here for him." I say. "Daddy what would happen if say I don't know you died?" She asks me. I'm confused.

"Uh Caroline I'm immortal sweetheart. Why are you asking me this?" I ask. That was a very odd question. "Yes you are immortal daddy but nothing is ever truly immortal. What if someone figured out how to I don't know say kill you?" She asks. Ok now she's scaring me.

"Caroline what are you trying to get at?" I ask. I'm starting to get a bad feeling. Does she know of someone that might be trying to kill me?

"Well you see daddy. I love you and well I have concerns. Thats why I have brought a surprise for you." She says. "What surprise?"

"This!" Gasp.. Caroline suddenly stabs a dagger into my heart. I can't breath. "Why?" I say. "Because I will be queen and your precious little mate will give the new king powers and she will die after." She whispers on my ear.

It's getting hard to breath. HAVEN! "Alpha!?" I look over to see Penny. I use all my strength left to mind link her. "Penny get Haven and run now!"

"Caroline what did you do!?" Penny shouts. "Penny now. Get haven and go. Grab Lillian and Richard if you can. Get whoever you can out!" I scream in mind link. "Take them to Jax." I tell her.

I try my best to keep awake. Penny darts down the hall to do as I've told her. "Do you think that you can save her. Do you think that Penny will betray me. Her mate." Caroline says. I ignore her.

"Haven go with Penny now. Do what she says." I mind link her before I can't. "Raphael what's going on." Haven just know that I love you always." The link cuts out. I can feel the bond to her fading.

My heart is barely beating. "You won't win Caroline." I tell her still fighting to stay awake as long as possible. "Halt! The king is down!" A warrior yells coming down the hall but it's too late. Caroline is gone and they can't save me.

I close my eyes making peace with this. I know Haven will be protected and loved. "My king who did this to you."

"Caroline." My voice is in a whisper now. "Get them them out of here. We will me attacked tonight. Go." Are the last words that leave my lips. Darkness invades and I am gone.
