Chapter 35: Funeral

POV: Raphael

I'm here in Black River. The funeral for Catalina just ended. Jax is a mess. I don't like how he's been acting especially towards Haven.

This is so unlike him. He has refused to even speak with Haven. She is no longer allowed in his pack. I have no idea what his problem is. Midnight is mad about but says he gets it. I don't know what that means and he won't elaborate on it.

I know he is hurting right now but so is everyone else. All Haven wants to do is be there for him. Haven thinks that he some how blames her. I don't see a reason anywhere for him to blame her.

I've had warriors checking in on her all day making sure she's ok and is eating. She wouldn't eat for me yesterday. I basically had to make her eat. She has grown depressed. At times it feels like she is pushing me away.

My grandson is doing great. His name is Cameron Mason Rickson. He was a big baby born almost ten pounds. Cat died due to some complications in birth. From what I understood this could have been prevented and caught.

Jax is pissed because the doctor never caught it. The doctors told Jax that they had but Cat told them not to tell Jax. The only thing they could have done was to terminate the pregnancy. Cat didn't want to do that. In other words Catalina knew this was going to happen. That doesn't make it any easier for Jax.

I just hope he doest grow to resent the child and blame him. Cameron is of no fault to this. All he did was be born. He is innocent in this.

"Dad tell Haven I'm sorry but I just can't see her right now." Jax say sadly. "I just don't get it Jax. What did she do. You know she is hurting right now not just from but from you to."

"I know. Believe me I know but trust me when I say that this is for the best. I can't tell you why. No she did nothing wrong." He says like he's trying to convince me to leave it alone. What is he hiding?

"Your keeping a secret from me. You know I don't like secrets so I suggest you tell me right now." I demand.

"I'm sorry I cant" he says angrily. "Fine. Either you tell me or I will alpha command you to." I give him an ultimatum. This has gone far enough.

"Are you kidding me. No I won't tell and you can't make me." He stands his ground. He thinks I'm bluffing.

"Alright fine. I order you to tell me why you are acting the way you are towards Haven now." I use my alpha command on him.

He put up a good fight against it. His nose started to bleed before he finally gave in. He came closer and whispers it in my ear. I freeze hearing what he says. Thats impossible.

He looks down guiltily. This is what Midnight meant. Jax is right he does need to be away from Haven for a while. I had no idea. He was so good at hiding it. He won't be as good now. It's already showing and he is fighting it.

Considering what he just told me makes a lot of sense though. The way they are so close. How he is nicer to her than his own mate. The way he is around her. He's a completely different person around her.

"Fine. I won't let her near you but get it under control." I tell him. "Whatever." He brushes past me angry. I still can't believe what I just heard.

"It will be a while before he can be around Haven again." Midnight comments. "How long have you known?" I ask. "Not long. It's hard to tell. I wasn't even completely sure."

What Jax just told me is very rare. You only hear about a few times a century. It can be hard to detect at first especially if one is a minor like haven was. Jax had every symptom for it towards her. The only thing is those symptoms can be chalked up to be something else. His protectivness was the first. It would later develop as the years went by. He did exactly as those symptoms pushed him to be.

I mingle around talking with people while watching Jax in the corner of my eye. He's drinking and is already drunk. He is a mess. "Liam!" I call Liam over. I have to be leaving soon. "Yeah dad?"

"Dont leave your brother tonight. I want you to stay with him. Make sure he takes care of himself. Help him with Cameron." I ask him. He looks over at Jax. "Yeah I will. Don't worry. How's Haven taking all this. I know I haven't been around a lot lately."

"She's sad and depressed. She will get through this though." I tell him. "How's she dealing with Jax being Jerk?" He asks. "That might be the part that is killing her. She hates it. I think its hurting her more than Cat's death."

"Man. I don't know what his deal is." Liam comments. "Yeah well for right now it's best they stay separated. Just trust that Jax has a good reason for his behavior." I explain. "Ok?" He looks confused.

Knowing what I know now I'm worried about what could be in store. The goddess wouldn't just make Jax what he is for no reason. Not with how rare this is. Not just anyone gets this gift.

"Just look after him. I got to go." I pat him on the shoulder and leave to my car. Penny rode with me. Lillian and Caroline are coming back home for a few days due to all of this.

I've been informed that Caroline sometimes suddenly dissappears at night. They say they can't track her because she makes her scent leaving her untraceable. What are you up to Caroline?

"Hey love. I'm on my way home now." I link Haven. She doesn't respond. She hasn't in the past few days. This is really getting to her. Catalina's passing and what Jax is doing to her. I'm not sure which is hurting her worse.

I just hope she snaps out of it soon. Hopefully one day they can be at the place they were but for now it best for them both to stay away.

"Haven do you want anything special to eat?" I ask in mindlink. Again no answer. "I just want you home." She finally responds to me.

"Dont worry I'm on my way. I will be there soon. I promise." I continue to drive to the palace. She doesn't say anymore. I really hope she gets better soon. I don't like this one bit.
