Chapter 69

Elvira’s eyes covered with tears, she held Lael’s arm tightly and hurried her steps. She wanted to hide somewhere. She just simply wanted to protect herself and her son. It was obvious that as soon as the demon was done with Maria, he would come to her. Elvira had no strength to fight over a demon and she is just literally helpless and pathetic right now. Her eyes scanned everywhere as she walked through the forest looking for a place for her to hide. Even if she had to die here, she should not let anything happen to Lael. he was just too small to leave this world.

“Mommy…. What happened to.. Granny Maria? She’s not following us…” While walking Lael looked up at Elvira and asked. Elvira’s heart screamed with pain remembering it. She just simply saved her and had to lose her life. Elvira never wanted anyone to lose their lives because of her but now it happened again. Maria was just an innocent woman. She didn’t have to die like that. It was all because of her. It was her fault. Her face was wet with tears and sweat. She just shook her head and didn’t give any certain answer to Lael. Elvira felt the piercing pain between her legs and she bit her lower lip harder while enduring it.

“Mommy… you hurt?” Suddenly, Lael stopped and asked Elvira. As he stopped, Elvira also stopped. She cannot walk anymore. She had no strength in her. It was so hard for her to go through this. Looking at Lael’s worried filled face, she smiled at him. She had no idea what to tell him. She wanted to get the hell out of this forest as soon as possible but she didn’t know how to do it with this current situation. Elvira pinched Lael’s cheek gently and parted her lips to speak.

“Not hurt baby…. We should leave here…” Lael stared at her with his worried eyes and lowered his head. Then he again raised his head and looked at Elvira’s belly. Moving closer to her, he placed his both hands on it and looked at Elvira with a pair of big emerald eyes which were filled with hope. His eyes reminded her about someone and those memories stabbed her heart brutally. She couldn’t help but think about him. If he was here, nothing would have happened like this. She wouldn’t have to go through something like this.

“Is my sister okay?” Elvira nodded at him as she continued walking. They had walked far away from the demon. But she had no idea where to go. She didn’t know the place where Lain had arranged for her. Only people who knew about it were Maria and Alec but now both of them were not with her. With all those helpless thoughts, she looked around. She should give birth to this child. She cannot hold the baby back inside of her for more than ten minutes. She cannot… both her and the baby would die if she continued this.

“Let’s hide here…” Showing a cave, Elvira pulled Lael towards it and hid inside of the cave. Hugging Lael against her body, she looked at her gown that she was wearing. The skirt of the dress was completely soaked. Elvira took a deep breath and calmed herself. She could hold this.. She will give birth to this baby safely and won’t let anything happen to the baby. Her body was trembling. She stroked Lael’s hair with her trembling hand and suddenly she heard the sound of footsteps. Her heart sank, she dragged the dagger out and moved Lael behind her as she stared outside of the cave. She didn’t care but if anyone tried to come into this cave, she wouldn’t hesitate to stab.

As the footsteps got closer to her, she felt the blood smell. It was Aunt Maria’s blood and this is the demon who just killed her. Elvira’s heart was thumping against her chest with so many thoughts in her mind. She held the dagger tightly and moved her one hand as she half Lael’s little hand. She didn’t want to die. Apart from herself, she had two more lives to protect in her arms. If she died, that means they will also not survive here inside of this forest. A grunt escaped everywhere and the demon was not so close to the cave. The demon followed the path with the scent of Elvira as he felt odorless and blood smell from her.

A growl escaped from the demon and he gritted his sharp teeth looking at the cave. Elvira heard the growl of the demon and her eyes turned cold along with her heart. She waited for the demon to come there, she was not going to waste any second. As soon as the demon appeared, she would stab. When she was thinking about it, suddenly the demon appeared in front of her. Its mouth was covered with blood. It was all Maria’s blood. Automatically tears rolled down from Elvira’s eyes remembering Maria and with that nager, she raised her hand to stab the demon but she couldn’t do it as she unknowingly screamed with the pain in her belly. Her body trembled and the dagger fell down from her hand.

“Lael…. If it… attacks me, you run away from here as soon as…. Possible.. Don’t look back…” Elvira held her belly and muttered. She didn’t even have the strength to speak because of the insufferable pain in her belly. Hearing her words, Lael stared at her with confused eyes and then he shook his head. Elvira moved her eyes away from him and tried to get the dagger again but it was far from her reach and the demon was scanning her before the attack just like it happened earlier.

And in the middle of everything, Elvira felt the heaviness in her necklace. She lowered her head to see that it had turned bright red. The necklace was moving and she felt as if the necklace was alive with the way it moved as if it was trying to leave her neck. Her earrings and her ring were calm and had no reaction as the color of the diamond was also black but the necklace was completely different. This is not the first time she felt this necklace was moving. Ever since Lain died, she felt this necklace was moving. She was terrified once but she didn’t want to take it off because he was the one to wear these things.

“Not leaving…. I’m not leaving mommy….” Elvira looked at Lael hearing his voice. Elvira’s lips had turned completely pale along with her face. Sweat was dripping down through forehead as it moved to her face and mixed with her tears. With a loud grunt, the demon entered the cave as it caught Elvira’s ankle wanting to fill her. She was sitting on the ground and as the demon did it, her heart covered with horror. She had no power in her to do anything. She felt that she was going to die but still, she didn’t want Lael to die. He was just a few years old.

“Lael…. Leave mommy… you have to run” Elvira muttered again as she felt the demon was pulling her towards him. Lael’s eyes were covered with tears and he shook his head, holding Elvira’s hand with both his hands. Elvira felt the demon was trying to break her leg, she closed her eyes and waited for it. All of sudden, Elvira felt the heaviness in her necklace disappear along with a furious growl. Her eyes snapped open and she looked in front of to see there was a black smoke-like thing in front of her and it had turned to the shape of a huge wolf. That’s all she could see and instantly the demon was killed by the wolf in front of her.

Elvira felt she was going insane seeing the wolf in front of her. And then the wolf turned to her. His eyes were murderous and had no warmth in them. Those eyes were glowing with bright red. Even if it was like smoke, she felt the wolf was so alive and alive. The wolf gritted teeth looking at her and his red orbs fell on Lael who was looking at him with widened eyes. Watching Lael for a while, the wolf licked the blood around his mouth and looked at Elvira. She couldn’t help but see it was Lain’s wolf but she knew that it was impossible.

“Daddy?” Suddenly Lael called. At the right moment, the wolf turned to the same smoke as it was pulled into the necklace around Elvira’s neck. Elvira’s lips were parted with disbelief. She stared ahead where the wolf was with an utter shock. Why did Lael just call daddy? She asked herself as she lowered her head and looked at the diamond in her necklace. The diamond was not red anymore and it was just simply black as normal. Not only that, it was just not heavy anymore. She touched the necklace and let out a deep sigh in relief. It just saved her life and her children’s.

She had no idea where Lain just found this necklace and why he gave it to her but she was glad that after everything he was the one to save her again and again when she was at most helpless situation. Elvira wiped her tears and looked at the dead demon. She needed to leave here but she found it was hard for her to get up and leave now and she cannot walk anymore.

“Mommy… it’s daddy’s… wolf right? Daddy woke up?” Lael questioned Elvira. It was similar to Lain’s and she cannot deny it but how could it be? How come Lain’s wolf came out of the necklace round her neck? It cannot be and she thought it must be an illusion. Shaking her head, Elvira kissed Lael’s head and tried to get up but she gained nothing but failure. She couldn’t manage to get up from the ground. She felt the urge. She needed to give birth to the baby. She couldn’t help but look at Lael. how can she just give birth to his sister in front of him? Elvira didn’t want to make Lael see something like this since he was just a small child.

“Daddy will wake up.. When you grow up.. Okay?” she muttered. Lael hesitated for a while but he eventually nodded at her. Seeing him agreeing with her, Elvira bit her lower lip. How to tell this innocent boy that his father would never wake up again? While nodding his head, he slowly put his hand into the pocket of his shorts and took out something. Elvria looked at the thing in his hands and her heart was crumpled from the pain. It was the wristband that Lain had left for him. He was keeping it with him all the time thinking that it was the thing which would inform Lain about his growth. Once he grew up, this wristband would let Lain know about it and then Lain would wake up. That’s what he was thinking, Staying here was not safe. A demon was there and she can’t tell when would be the second demon would come to attack them. She knew that there's a blood smell on her because of the current situation of her body. Therefore, she cannot predict what kind of creatures would get attracted to this smell and come to her. Placing her one hand on the wall of the cave, she tried to get up. As a result of her actions, she felt unbearable pain between her legs as if it was about to tear. A painful whimper escaped from Elvira and she shook her head. She didn’t want to give birth to her child in a place like this. It’s so dirty and the demon’s blood was everywhere.

While she was waiting inside of the cave. Her ears were pierced by the sound of a few creepy creatures. Elvira’s heart sank. She knew this! She knew that her smell would attract creatures and this is just the beginning. Those Creatures must be wendigos. She cou;d guess it. Looking at Lael who was carefully listening to the sound, Elvira parted her lips and whispered.

“Take that dagger and give it to me… hurry up” Instantly, Lael grabbed the dagger and gave it to Elvira. Elvira couldn’t hope for the second help from the necklace around her neck because it was so calm now. There was no heaviness or any movements in it. The sound of creatures continued as she felt it was getting closer. Elvira held the dagger and clenched her jaws as she raised her arm somewhat and held the dagger. As soon as the sound of creatures heard next to the cave, Elvira got ready and then stabbed the creature who entered the cave at first.

She was right… It was a small variety of wendigos. Even if she killed the first one effortlessly, she saw there were more than five which made her lose her mind. Those creatures become furious as she kills one of them within a second.
