Chapter 68

“My lady, please have your soup now..” Elvira heard the knock against the door of the room. It was Aunt Maria. Letting out a deep sigh, she stepped towards the door of the room and opened it. Looking at Aunt Maria who was standing at the door while looking at her, Elvira smiled at her and looked at the soup on the tray. She should be strong and she should have enough nutrients in her body to give her little baby. Coming into the room, Aunt Maria placed the tray on the bedside table and looked at Elvira. Elvira had a pair of reddened eyes. Her face was pale and swollen. Gazing at her, Maria felt her heart was aching.

“Shall I feed you the soup?” Maria questioned Elvira. Elvira moved her eyes to the soup and stared at it for a while before shaking her head. She could drink it alone. With her answer, Maria helped Elvira to sit on the bed. Once she sat, Maria gave the soup bowl to Elvira. Elvira took the spoon and mixed it for a while before starting to drink it. Watching her drinking it slowly, Maria let out a deep sigh that filled with so many emotions. It’s been a week since Lain had died, Elvira was calm all the time.

She would cry alone without letting anyone see her and then again turn to the simple calm person who didn’t speak much. If she would speak, it would always be for Lael. she had changed. The brightness she had every time she smiled and everytime she spoke to other persons were no longer there as her face was replaced with emptiness and darkness. Her eyes were always red due to cries. She was living as if she was a corpse after his death. She was not strong enough to face it. While Elvira was drinking the soup, she felt Aunt Maria’s gaze on her.

“I.. think.. I should go to the hospital…” Elvira muttered looking at her. She felt that the baby would come out soon and for that she needed to be prepared. Going to the hospital early would be helpful. Upon hearing her statement, Aunt Maria’s heart clenched. Elvira gave birth to the first baby inside of this house. Inside of the same room where Lain was born but now she wanted to go to the hospital to give birth to her second baby? Instead of saying anything, Aunt Maria nodded at Elvira.

“I will inform Beta as soon as possible,” Aunt Maria muttered. Elvira finished the whole soup bowl and nodded. She felt no taste in these foods and she was not even hungry. She was just having food because she wanted her baby to be healthy inside of her. If she was not pregnant, Elvira wouldn’t even bother having food for herself. She was so tired of everything already. Without him, she felt as if she was an empty shell. She couldn’t do anything without him and it’s been a week since he had left her. Elvira thought about it as she laid on the bed and Aunt Maria left the room taking the tray.

Once Aunt Maria left, Elvira closed her eyes and placed her hands against her belly. She wanted to feel her baby. While she was feeling her baby, she heard the sound of little footsteps. Elvira opened her eyes to see it was Lael who was coming. She smiled looking at him. Lael had his hands behind him as he jogged towards her. Then suddenly he took two roses and gave them to her. Elvira couldn’t help but smile. Taking the two roses, she smelled it and let out a deep sigh.

“One for you and one for my sister… Mommy, you like them?” Elvira’s heart ached. She looked at lael and nodded. She loved them. She loved the roses in this garden. Lain also used to give her roses. Looking at the roses, she thought about Lain and then looked at her little son who was so good and adorable with everything he did. Seeing Elvira was smiling, Lael giggled and placed his little hands on Elvira’s belly and caressed it as if he was feeling the movements of the baby. While he was doing it, Elvira stroked his silky hair.

“Daddy… used to do like this…” Moving his little emerald eyes to Elvira he muttered. Elvira’s heart ached with what he said. She stared at his eyes for a while and forced a smile. It hurt her every time Lael talked about Lain. More than anything, it hurt Elvira to see that her little son was believing that Lain would wake up soon and come to them. He had no idea that Lain was dead. Elvira nodded at him and smiled. She would never show the pain to him. He will understand what’s the truth eventually when he grows older.

“Yes… Do you feel your sister?” Elvira asked. Lael nodded at Elvira and giggled happily. He was impatient to meet his little sister. As she waited chatting with Lael, suddenly Elvira heard a sound of a loud growl which made her heart was covered with fear. She immediately sat up on the bed and focused on the sound that came from nowhere. As she felt it, her wolf suddenly started to become restless. Fearful thoughts ran all ober her body and Elvira understood that something bad was going to happen. As she felt something was not right, she immediately stood up from the bed and opened the drawer of the bedside table before pulling out the dagger.

As she took the dagger out, her eyes fell on the paper. The letter Lain left behind. Her heart ached, she took it and put it into a pocket of her dress and looked at Lael who was looking at her with wide eyes. She had no idea what was happening and she had no idea what’s going on outside because she heard the sound of people screaming.not long after the scent of blood spread through her nose. Elvira held the dagger tightly and stared at the door of her room. Without wasting time, she walked into the dressing room with Lael and hid there. At the same time she heard the sound of the door opening.

“Luna… it’s me!” Upon hearing Alec’s voice, Elvira let out a deep sigh and walked out of the dressing room but seeing him, she was taken back. He was covered with blood and he had a deep stabbed wound on his shoulder. Elvira’s eyes reddened seeing him. She clutched her dress tightly and stared at him without uttering anything. Alec didn’t waste time as he stepped closer to Elvira and held her hands. He looked at the dagger in her hand and sighed.

“Listen to me… you need to leave here right now! You have no place to hide here. Get a few sweaters and hurry up because outside is cold” He uttered. Elvira was totally confused. She stared at him in daze. What’s happening? Why does she have to leave? Countless thoughts appeared in her mind. Looking at the serious look Alec had on his face, elvira lowered her eyes and looked at his hands that he was holding hers. She felt like crying louder at this point with the fear in her heart. She didn’t want anything to happen to Alec because Alec was the one to help her with everything after Lain left.

“What’s happening? What happened to you?” She questioned. Alec stared at her for a while and shook his head. Then he left her and entered the dressing room, he immediately grabbed a few clothes of Lain and put those inside of a bag and then grabbed random clothes from Elvira’s wardrobe and did the same before walking out of the dressing room. Coming out, he looked at Lael. he wanted to take clothes for Lale but he had no time for it. Picking Lain up, he walked towards Elvira and sighed.

“Let’s leave… I’ll take you to the other side of the forest. From there onwards, you go along with Aunt Maria… she knows where to take you. If I can survive this war, I’ll go there. Take care of yourself and the baby. Lael, go with mommy and be brave okay? Your daddy wanted you to be brave as much as he was” Lael nodded at Alec obediently and looked at Elvira. Elvira already had tears in her eyes. She clutched her dress and looked around the room again. Before leaving, she opened the drawer of the bedside table and grabbed a picture as she put it into her pocket.

After that, Alec led Lael and Elvira out of the room. When they were leaving, Aunt Maria also came to them. She was crying. She was as if she had lost everything. Elvira had no time to ask any questions because they were leaving. Coming out of the house through the secret passage that Elvira had never known, they came to the other side of the forest. The place was so calm and quiet as there was noise. Coming there, Alec gave the bag to Aunt Maria and then put Label on the ground.

“I’m leaving.. Please take good care of Maria… it was his last will…” Maria nodded at Alec while crying and picked up Lael. after saying that Alec looked at Elvira and forced a smile as he turned to leave. Before he could leave, Elvira grabbed his arm and stopped him. Turning to Elvira with a questioning gaze, he let out a deep sigh. He had no idea why she was looking at him like that.

“You… live okay? Come back… don’t die…” Her words made Alec chuckle, he nodded at Elvira and patted Lael’s head before walking away. Watching him leaving, Elvira’s tears rolled down from her eyes. She had no idea what’;s happening but it was so painful. She didn’t want to leave that house because she had so many memories in that house with Lain but yet, she had to leave.

“Let’s leave my lady… we need to hurry,” Elvira nodded at Maria and followed her. As she followed her, she felt her stomach was aching. She endured the pain without a word and walked. They walked for miles but suddenly, Elvira felt as if someone was running towards her but it was from so far away. She stopped and looked back. As she looked back, she saw the deadly forest that she had never seen before. Forest was dangerous… this is why Lain always asked her not to go to the forest without him. And now, she’s in the middle of the forest without him beside her.

“Someone is coming towards us. I can swear that it’s not Alec or anyone from our people." Aunt Maria stopped in her tracks hearing Elvira. She looked back at the place where Elvira was staring with horror filled eyes. She was old and weak, she couldn’t feel anything but Elvira’s wolf was young and strong and she could easily feel things much earlier. Maria’s heart was hammering against her chest. This forest is not the same place and Maria knew that there are so many unrecognized creatures living in this forest but she had one thing in her mound and it was to take Elvira and Lael to the place that Lain arranged before dying. That’s the only safe place.

“It’s okay my lady, let’s hurry.” Maria uttered. Elvira followed Maria without saying anything. As they walked, she felt a presence behind her but Elvira didn’t dare to look back. She was walking behind while Aunt Maria was walking from her front while carrying Lael and the bag. Moving her hand, she placed it against her belly and caressed it. Her heart was hammering against her chest with fear and unknown feelings. She couldn’t help but call Lain’s name in her heart even if she knew that he wouldn’t be here ever again in her lifetime. All of sudden, Elvira saw the ring on her hands turning bright red. Not only that, the necklace around her neck and her earrings became so heavy and hot.

All of sudden, Aunt Maria stopped and placed Lael on the ground before turning to Elvira as if she had something to tell. When she turned to look at Elvira, her eyes suppressed with horror as she looked behind Elvira. There was a huge demon behind Elvira. Maria lost her mind as she screamed. At the same time, she ran to Elvira and pulled her away. As Aunt Maria did that, Elvira looked at the demon as her pupils shrunk. Maria was not near the demon and Elvira parted her lips to speak but before she could even say anything, the demon grunted and grabbed Aunt Maria from her hair before piercing its sharp teeth into her neck making Elvira’s legs go numb.

“Run…. please… run… my.. Lady” That’s all Maria could tell as the demon started to devour her. Elvira’s vision blurred with tears, she shook her head and stared at Maria until she died. Once Maria died, Elvira took Lael’s hand and then grabbed the bag before hurrying her steps, she couldn’t even run because of her belly. She bit her lower lip trying so hard to endure the pain in her belly and walk away. The demon was already eating Maria and he didn’t pay attention to Elvira and Lael but Elviora wanted to get the hell out of this place. Then she suddenly felt something familiar.

Horror took over Elvira as she lowered her eyes and looked at her legs to see that her water bag had just broken and the baby was about to come out.
