Chapter 166 Taken Away by Amber

Chapter 166 Taken Away by Amber
Skylar sighed, her unease growing stronger.

She hoped... nothing bad would happen.

Meanwhile, Amber led Chloe through a maze of turns until they reached the hotel's underground parking garage.

"Why did you bring me here?" Chloe stopped, eyeing her warily. "Where are these things you mentioned?"

"Patience." Amber turned around, a sinister smile on her face. "You'll see them soon enough."

With that, she pulled a handkerchief from her pocket and, catching Chloe off guard, pressed it firmly over her nose and mouth.

"Mmph—" Chloe struggled for a few moments before quickly losing consciousness and collapsing.

Amber looked down at Chloe sprawled on the ground, a cold smirk on her face.

How foolish.

She crouched down, patting Chloe's face, her tone venomous. "Chloe, don't blame me."

"If you want to blame someone, blame yourself for marrying Travis."

Standing up, she opened the door of a nearby van and dragged Chloe inside.

The vehicle soon pulled out of the underground garage and disappeared into the night.

Watching the streetscape fly past the window, Amber's smile grew wider.

Travis, Skylar...

Just wait.

The game was only beginning.

She'd make them pay, one by one.

The van drove for about half an hour before stopping in front of an abandoned villa on the outskirts.

This was her and Wilma's secret hideout.

They usually hid here. Few people knew about it.

Amber had the driver drag Chloe out and lock her in the basement.

After finishing everything, she dusted off her hands, a satisfied smile on her face.

Perfect.

Step one, complete.

Next up—Travis and Skylar.

Amber pulled out her phone and sent Wilma a message.

Back at the ballroom, Wilma had been mingling for ages. When she turned around, Amber was gone.

She frowned, annoyed.

Where had that girl run off to?

Hadn't she told her not to wander?

Wilma pulled out her phone and called Amber.

The phone rang several times before being answered.

"Mom, what's up?" Amber's voice sounded weak.

"Where did you go?" Wilma frowned, her tone reproachful. "Didn't I tell you not to wander off?"

"Mom, I'm not feeling well. I went home." Amber's voice carried exhaustion. "I'm a bit dizzy. Maybe I've been cooped up too long and can't adapt."

"Why didn't you tell me before leaving?" Wilma's tone softened slightly. "Is it serious? Should I come check on you?"

"No need, Mom." Amber quickly replied. "I'll be fine after some rest. Don't worry about me."

"You should stay there longer, meet more people. It'll be good for our future."

Wilma thought about it. That made sense.

They'd come back to reestablish themselves in high society.

Meeting more people was always beneficial.

"Alright, take care of yourself." Wilma instructed. "Call me if anything comes up."

"I will, Mom."

After hanging up, Wilma didn't think much of it. She pocketed her phone and continued mingling with the guests.

Amber wasn't a child anymore. She should be fine.

As she chatted with someone, she caught sight of a familiar figure from the corner of her eye.

Skylar.

"Ms. Sterling, long time no see." Wilma approached Skylar with a champagne glass, a fake smile plastered on her face.

Skylar glanced at her and said nothing, turning to leave.

There was nothing to say to someone like her.

"What, you can't even greet an old acquaintance?" Wilma quickly blocked her path. "Are you really that high and mighty now?"

Skylar gave her a cool glance. "Are we acquainted?"

"How are we not?" Wilma smiled, her tone loaded with meaning. "Come to think of it, you should be calling me 'mother.'"

Skylar frowned and ignored her, continuing forward.

Talking to this woman was a complete waste of time.

Seeing Skylar ignore her, Wilma became even more aggressive.

She hurried after her, blocking Skylar's path again, her expression darkening.

"Skylar, don't get too cocky!"

"Last time you got lucky and escaped."

"Next time, you won't be so fortunate!"

Skylar stopped and looked at her, raising an eyebrow. "Next time?"

"What next time?"

A deep male voice suddenly cut in.

Reuben had appeared beside Skylar, his gaze cold as he stared at Wilma.

Wilma jumped, her face going pale instantly.

Now wasn't the time to confront Reuben.

Before Reuben could speak, she turned and fled.

Watching her panicked retreat, Skylar couldn't help but laugh.

Reuben looked at Skylar, his tone softening. "Are you alright? She didn't do anything to you, did she?"

"What do you think?" Skylar smiled at him. "You showed up and scared her off before she could do anything."

Reuben reached out and ruffled her hair. "Lucky she ran fast."

"By the way," Skylar suddenly remembered something, her expression growing serious, "I saw Amber take Chloe away just now."

"Chloe?" Reuben frowned. "Why would those two be together?"

"I don't know either." Skylar shook her head. "I saw them talking for a bit, then Chloe followed Amber out."

"Something feels off about it."

"Amber is ruthless. If Chloe went with her, could something happen?"

Reuben's expression darkened.

Amber...

That woman was capable of anything.

Though Chloe had no connection to them, she was still a human life.

And Chloe was from the York family.

If something really happened to her, the Yorks definitely wouldn't let it go.

Things could spiral out of control.

"I understand." Reuben pulled out his phone and called Wolf, his tone icy. "Wolf, send people to track down Amber's whereabouts immediately."

"Also, check Chloe's location. She just left the wedding venue with Amber."

"Yes, Mr. Dickson."

After hanging up, Reuben looked at Skylar reassuringly. "Don't worry. I've already sent people to investigate."

"We should have news soon."

Skylar nodded, though unease still gnawed at her.

She hoped... Chloe would be okay.

Otherwise, things would get complicated.

Reuben seemed to read her thoughts. He gently took her hand and said quietly, "Don't be afraid. I'm here."

"Whatever happens, I'll handle it."

Skylar looked up at him. The anxiety in her heart gradually settled.

No matter what happened, he'd be by her side.

That was enough.

Skylar leaned into his embrace and nodded gently.
