Chapter 26 The Cheating Couple Should Suffer
Robert heard the command and shot Michael a worried look.
Michael's face was stone-cold, his eyes like icy daggers aimed straight at Olivia in the back seat.
Olivia didn't even acknowledge him, focusing on calming Bianca, who had been startled by the car horn.
Michael was livid, taking a moment before he spat out, "Let them go!"
Robert quickly stepped aside.
Evelyn rolled her eyes dramatically, shifted gears, and sped off.
As they drove away, Evelyn's anger boiled over. She couldn't help but curse, "Michael is such a jerk! He doesn't even stand up for his own wife and sides with his mistress! He didn't even ask for an explanation before blaming you! Is he out of his mind? Did his brain get damaged along with his legs back then? Now he can't even make the simplest judgments!"
Olivia had been trying to calm herself down. But remembering the recent incident and all the baseless accusations from the past made her heart ache.
She said bitterly, "How could he not have judgment? He's smart. It's just that he cares about Sophia, puts her on a pedestal, and can't bear to see her hurt. That's why he doesn't bother to find out the truth!"
Evelyn grew even angrier and also felt a pang of sadness.
When Olivia had wanted a divorce, she hadn't gone into detail about their relationship, only that Sophia had caused her a lot of grief.
But she never imagined it was this bad! Michael had no trust in Olivia and immediately assumed she was the one causing trouble.
Three years of marriage, giving up everything to support and care for him, couldn't compare to a few words from Sophia!
Michael not only trampled on her feelings but also dismissed all her efforts.
Evelyn's eyes reddened with sympathy. "Olivia, they'll get what's coming to them! Michael is a scumbag, and he won't end up well! You're amazing, and if he can't appreciate you, that's his loss! And as for Sophia, breaking up someone else's family, she'll face the consequence."
Thinking of Sophia, Evelyn remembered her fake demeanor in the parking lot.
With a look of disgust, she said, "No wonder she's just back from abroad. She's like an imported trash bag, so fake! In front of Michael, she acts all delicate, and her two-faced act almost made me puke. Michael must be blind to fall for someone like that!"
Olivia, who had been feeling down, couldn't help but be distracted by Evelyn's rant.
Evelyn really knew how to insult someone! Olivia wasn't good at cursing people out, and even if she racked her brain, she couldn't come up with something like that.
Feeling a bit better, Olivia calmed down quickly. "It doesn't matter who he likes anymore. I just want to get the divorce done as soon as possible."
Evelyn, still fuming, slapped the steering wheel as they waited at a red light. "It feels like divorcing them is too easy! Seeing them all cozy, they probably can't wait for you to leave. If it were me, I wouldn't divorce them, just to drive them crazy! If they want to make me miserable, they shouldn't expect to have it easy either!"
Olivia didn't respond to this.
Evelyn had a fiery personality and wouldn't back down easily, always ready to fight to the end.
But Olivia was different. For a marriage that only brought her pain, she just wanted to be free as soon as possible.
For the next two days, Olivia returned to her busy routine.
She had neglected her medical skills for years, so to ensure her future work went smoothly, she revisited the medical texts her mentor had left her.
These were the most important legacies of the 'Medica Vitae Sect,' containing many lost treatment methods.
Although she remembered most of it, she wasn't as fluent as she used to be.
So, she spent a lot of time reviewing and planning her future research directions.
During this time, she couldn't help but think about the mysterious psychologist. How could she get in touch with him?
Evelyn had used all her connections but still couldn't find any leads. Should she stake out near the military base?
She'd probably get arrested as a spy before she even got close!
The more Olivia thought about it, the more frustrated she became.
Just then, her phone buzzed with a message from Daniel about the progress of the new lab.
Daniel: [The old lab's equipment is outdated. Since you're coming back, we've equipped it with the best! How do you like it? Am I good to you or what?] Attached was a picture.
Olivia glanced at it and felt a wave of gratitude.
Daniel might talk about the high costs of the lab, but his actions spoke louder.
The medical equipment was state-of-the-art, the office was tastefully luxurious, and there was even a spacious lounge. Everything was decorated to her liking!
Olivia was pleased and immediately replied: [Thanks. You're so generous. I'll work hard to develop great medicine to repay your trust.]
Daniel sent a voice message, sounding a bit exasperated, "Olivia, can you just talk normally?"
Olivia chuckled, her earlier frustration easing a bit.
She decided to take her time with the psychologist. Rushing wouldn't help. If they were meant to meet, they would.
Besides, Bianca's situation wasn't as dire as before. Lately, Bianca had been very eager to communicate, wanting to make friends with everything she saw.
At that moment, Bianca was in the yard, chattering nonstop. Olivia couldn't tell if she was talking to the flowers or the butterflies.
Curious, Olivia leaned in to listen. Bianca's voice was too soft to make out.
She had to ask, "Sweetie, what are you whispering to the butterfly? Can you tell me?"
Bianca blinked her clear eyes and said, "I can't tell. It's a secret between me and the butterfly."
"Oh?" Olivia pretended to be disappointed. "Alright, since it's a secret between you and the butterfly, I won't pry."
Bianca pursed her lips and smiled, then continued talking to the butterfly.
Seeing Bianca's progress made Olivia very happy. Bianca was slowly getting better. She was so adorable and lovable, but only Olivia knew.
At that moment, Olivia couldn't help but think of Michael.
Since the unpleasant incident in the parking lot, Michael had vanished, not coming home or sending any messages.
She couldn't even ask about the divorce papers! If his heart wasn't in it, why not just end it cleanly?
That night, after putting Bianca to bed, Olivia was still annoyed about it.
Lost in thought, she didn't notice the sound of the door opening or the footsteps.
Michael entered just as Olivia was unbuttoning her shirt. Under the bright lights, her long hair was pinned up, revealing her graceful neck. In the mirror, she could see herself clearly.
Her features were strikingly beautiful, not aggressive, with an ethereal quality. Her collarbone was perfectly exposed, exuding temptation.
Michael's eyes darkened, a storm brewing within. He moved behind her, wrapping her in his arms.
Only then did Olivia realize he was there. She was clearly startled, shivering with surprise. Before she could react, she saw in the mirror that Michael was leaning down.
Olivia knew this move all too well. He was going to kiss her!
In the past, she would have been thrilled.
In their four years of marriage, they hadn't been intimate often.
Whenever Michael initiated, she was always delighted. But now, she felt nothing but disgust!
Olivia instinctively pushed his hands away and stepped back several times, creating distance.
"Michael, what are you doing?" she asked in shock and anger.
Michael, clearly drunk, had a slightly dazed look in his eyes. Though unsteady from being pushed, he wasn't angry.
Instead, his desire seemed to intensify, his voice softening, "Why are you backing away? Are you shy? Don't worry, I'll be gentle..."
Olivia was stunned. When had Michael ever been this gentle with her? In the past, their intimacy felt more like a routine. Not exactly cold, but never with such tenderness!
Olivia suddenly realized something. Michael... did he mistake her for Sophia? Only with Sophia would he be this tender!
