Chapter 116 The truth
Chapter 118; The truth.
Alex leaned back against the chair, watching Hazel eat with amusement twirling in his black eyes.
“I told you this place won’t disappoint. Its reputation isn’t just for show.” He said and Hazel nodded earnestly, enjoying her food with bright eyes.
Alex loved watching her like this, it made him feel something warm in his heart.
After a while, Hazel finally realized that Alex had been staring at her and hadn't touched his food.
She glanced at his face that had a soft smile and then at his full plate, “Why aren’t you eating? It will get cold.”
She felt slightly uncomfortable under his gaze, although it wasn’t offensive in the slightest.
Alex didn’t hide what he felt as he said, “I like what I see compared to the dish.”
Hazel scoffed, “Get ready to starve then.”
Alex didn’t mind.
For a while, the only sound in the room was the soft clink of utensils against the porcelain plates. After eating for a while, Hazel suddenly dropped her spoon as a thought occurred to her.
She glanced at Alex who was still looking at her and asked, “Aren’t you going to ask me anything?”
Alex didn’t look surprised. He calmly took his spoon and began to eat.
“About Damien?” He asked calmly and Hazel nodded after a moment of hesitation.
There was a brief silence before Alex smiled, “I will wait until you are ready to speak to me about iy.”
He didn’t want to press her or make her feel uncomfortable. He believed she would still open up if she was really willing to tell him. And if she later did not, he really doesn’t mind. That still does not stop him from courting her.
Hazel stared at him for a second, then lowered her head. Guilt flashed in her eyes, but Alex did not see it.
To Hazel, Alex was a gentleman to the core. He was pleasant to be with, considerate towards her and never tried to brush off her feelings. He was a man every woman could want, but she was different.
She already had someone in her heart. Hazel knew she could not give Alex what he wanted and it made her feel guilty because he has been nothing but kind towards her.
And right now, the least she could do was explain everything to him without hiding anything.
Then slowly, she spoke, explaining everything to him even to the smallest detail. She doesn’t care if he judges her or not and she doesn’t mind, she just feels that he deserves to know the truth behind her relationship with Damien.
By the time she finished explaining, Alex had already stopped eating and was looking at her.
Actually, he had heard most of these things from Killian, but he wanted to hear it again from her. He knew Damien could be ruthless, so he didn’t doubt it when he realized that Damien had murdered her entire pack.
But a part of him, the one that grew up with Damien, still found something very odd. Damien wasn't one to kill just anyhow, thay man even allowed refugees from his opposing pack to stay in his territory because he didn’t want to kill innocent people.
So, why would he destroy Hazel's home without any reason?
Or could it be that Hazel’s parents were involved in that event several years ago?
The thought had Alex frowning, but he said nothing of his thoughts to Hazel.
Then he exhaled slowly. He will find out what was happening here, but that will be later.
“That is everything.” Hazel finally concluded and he stared at her.
Hazel waited for him to speak, but she never expected his response to be, “I will still win you over.”
She blinked, surprised and puzzled.
Although she did not say much about her feelings to Damien, her relationship with Damien was not simple.
And yet…
“Alex, you…” She tried to speak, but he cut her short.
“I don’t care what kind of connection you have with Damien right now, feelings can change.” He said, still with that same calm smile.
“And I am not someone that gives up without trying. You don’t have to answer me now, I will wait.”
Hazel wanted to say something, but at the end of the day, she just sighed and fell silent.
After that, the conversation steered in another direction.
“What about your parents?” Hazel asked.
For a second, Alex’s hand paused, but only for a fraction of a second.
“They died when Killian and I were young. In that battle several years ago.”
The same battle that changed Alex. A brief gloom flashed in Alex's eyes but it quickly disappeared.
“I’m sorry:” She said and Alex shook his head.
“It’s fine, it’s been ages. I don’t even know what they look like anymore.”
The meal continued and they chatted calmly about trivial things. Alex found that Hazel was an opinionated woman and his respect and admiration for her grew even more.
After the meal, he stood up, “Come, let’s go somewhere.”
…
The jewelry house was quieter than the food spot, but it wasn’t the least bit luxurious.
It was elegant and refined. Hazel saw many women leaving and entering every minute. The spot seems to be popular as well.
Every piece displayed was enough to attract attention.
The shop owner personally led the two of them in and Alex told him, “Show me your best collections.”
The shop owner, a middle-aged man, smiled fawningly, “This way, this way. We have a lot of jewelry that this young miss will definitely like.”
The shop owner was sharp-eyed, he quickly noticed that Hazel wore minimal jewellries, so he led her towards simple, but elegant collections.
Hazel stared at the jewellries and grew a liking to one of them, but when the shop owner spoke about the price, her eyelids jumped.
But Alex didn’t have much problem.
“I will take that one.” He said, pointing to the one Hazel has been eyeing.
“No, no. It’s too expensive.” She quickly refused with a wave of her hand, but Alex was not having it.
“It will look good on you.”
“…”
