Chapter 112 Knowing the truth
Chapter 112 Knowing the truth
“Uncle Grito and Damien seem very close.” Hazel pointed out as they walked across the corridor.
Alex nodded, “Of course. Uncle Grito watched all of us grow up, he is like a godfather to us. Damien might not look like it, but he respects Uncle Grito a lot, even more than we do.”
Hazel nodded quietly and took note of that. The more she interacted with Damien, the more she seemed to realize that there is more to the cruel man he has become.
Sometimes, he would be gentle and next, he would revert back to his usual coldness, making Hazel feel like the previous gentleness was a mere illusion.
She had seen when Damien rushed to her during the horse race earlier, but she wasn’t so sure if what she saw in his eyes was genuine concern or not.
Hazel admitted that her feelings for him were deeper than expected and she was no longer at the phase where she would continue denying it. It was something glaring now, she could not deny or ignore it.
“Hazel, how about we go for a stroll tomorrow?” Alex suddenly asked and Hazel nodded absentmindedly.
Alex stared at her for a few seconds, then averted his gaze.
He could feel it. Hazel might seem as though she had agreed to be pursued by him, but there was this detachment he could feel, something that made him feel like she wasn’t really looking forward to it.
But it doesn’t matter. He likes her and that is all that matters, later he would make sure she reciprocates his feelings.
That was when a small, white thing sped towards them. It bypasses Alex and Killian, before flying into Hazel’s embrace.
Its weight was almost non-existent, so Hazel did not feel anything.
Alex dipped his hand into his shirt, holding the hilt of his dagger tightly, but when he saw the smile on Hazel's face, he relaxed.
“Little Red, where do you normally run to?” Hazel asked the little cub, but it only burrowed into Hazel's embrace coyly. “Are you acting spoilt?” Hazel asked with an amused smile and the little cub whined.
“Alright, alright. I can’t do anything to you after all.”
Alex finally got a chance to speak, “Hazel, is this your pet?”
Hasel nodded, “Her name is Little Red.” With that said, she pulled Little Red’s head out and patted her head. “Little Red, someone wants to see you.”
Alex smiled and leaned down slightly to the cub’s length. “Hello, Little Red. My name is Alex, your owner’s friend.”
Little Ref stared at Alex for a second and a look of disdain flashed in her eyes.
Alex was surprised. Was this little thing looking down on him?
Before he could say anything else, Little Red had already turned back into Hazel's embrace, showing Alex nothing but her butt.
Hasel watched this happen and resisted the urge to laugh.
“She’s just shy.” She managed to say and Alex smiled awkwardly.
Shy? It was more like the little cub was contemptuous towards him. Alex had never witnessed something like that before and the cub seemed to have grown sentient.
He glanced back at the cub and said nothing.
Killian, who has been walking in front, turned around, “Alex, we need to talk.”
Alex frowned instantly.
Hazel did not even hesitate to say, “I will be leaving now.”
So, with Little Red in her arms, she walked away.
Alex, who has been planning to have a deep conversation with her along the way sighed with regret. It was all Killian’s fault, why couldn’t he wait until Hazel was gone?
Alex approached Killian and glared at him, “What? You ruined my plan to get closer to Hazel because of your so-called serious matter.”
Killian shook his head and said, “It is about Hazel.”
Alex’s attention was finally attracted and he asked, “What about her?”
Actually, he knew that there was a lot Hazel was not telling him. For example, why was she so close to Damien? The Damien he knew would never allow a random woman to stay in his mansion, especially so close by.
She even dines with him and calls him by his name.
Alex had a lot of suspicions, but he was waiting for her to take the initiative to tell him.
“Do you really like her or are you just playing around as usual?” Killian asked. He wasn’t joking this time, he was very serious.
Alex furrowed his brow as he replied, “Is my previous actions not enough to show you how serious I am about her? I really do want to have a relationship with her.”
Killian fell silent, then shook his head, “I’m afraid that might not be possible.”
“What are you talking about?”
“Well, Hazel and Damien, there’s something else to their relationship.” Killian finally said and Alex’s heart skipped a bit.
It can’t be what he’s thinking, right?
Killian proceeded to explain everything to Alex, from how Hazel got here to how she became his slave and to how Killian suspects that both Damien and Hazel might share romantic feelings towards each other.
The more Alex listened, the more his expression sank.
“Brother, I’m afraid you don’t stand a chance.” Killian finally concluded.
For a while, Alex didn’t say anything.
To be honest, his feelings for Hazel keeps getting deeper everyday and it might sound surprising, but she was the first woman he would genuinely like.
But if she and Damien already have something going on, the sprout of his growing love might have to be cut up before it even grows well.
Yet, he didn’t want to give up so easily.
“I still believe I can fight for her. Damien doesn’t seem to be ready to push their relationship further and I don’t care about what has transpired between the both of them. I believe the best man will win.” Alex said calmly.
Killian wasn't expecting such a reaction and frowned, “But…” he wanted to convince Alex further, yet the determination in Alex’s eyes made him stop and he sighed. “Well, do as you wish.”
