Chapter 111 The curse.
Chapter 111 The curse.
“He will be fine, it is just a dislocated shoulder bone.”
Hazel glanced at the middle-aged man, who had short grey hair and goatee and nodded. Surprisingly, Albert had a master and it was the man right before her.
“Uncle Grito, when did you arrive?” Alex asked.
“A few hours ago. I didn’t know you also came back already. I hope the mission went well.” Grito spoke with a smile on his face, just like a typical grandfather.
Alex grinned, “Uncle, don’t you trust me?”
Killian, who was by the sides sneered, “Show off.”
Grito laughed softly, then turned to me, “You must be Hazel, I have heard a lot about you from my disciple.”
Hazel was somewhat surprised, but she reacted quickly. “It’s nice meeting you, Sir.”
Grito waved his hands, “Just call me Uncle like the rest, I still have to thank you on Damien’s behalf.”
Hazel knew what he was talking about.
“I don’t think there is a need for that because I really didn’t do anything.” She replied quickly. After all, if it wasn’t because she was forced, she wouldn’t have known that her presence could help with Damien’s severe insomnia condition.
Grito said nothing else and merely smiled. Alex’s gaze darted between Grito, Damien and Hazel, he was curious, but he didn’t want to pry.
“Then, I will take my leave now.” Hazel said and after Grito nodded, she made her way towards the door. Alex, who was still sitting, quickly ran after her.
Killian could read the atmosphere, he knew that Grito probably had something to tell Damien, so he didn’t hesitate to turn and leave.
After they left, the study room regained its silence and Damien stared at Grito.
“Your adventure this time seems to have gone well.” He pointed out and Grito laughed.
“You know me well. Although it took so long, I still got most of the things I wanted.” Grito replied while stroking his goatee with satisfaction. He studied Damien for a second and said, “You look better compared to the last time I left, Albert told me about the woman, that should be her, right?”
Damien pressed his lips together, but still replied, “Yes, it’s her.”
“I am surprised that there is someone in this world, who isn’t a witch and can treat the insomnia condition that was triggered because of the curse. You are lucky to have found her.” Grito commented seriously.
“Witches are extinct.” Damien replied, but Grito shook his head, his expression very serious.
“I don’t think so. They must be in hiding, waiting for the right moment to show up. These creatures are cruel but scheming, they must be plotting something sinister again. Thankfully, I found a combination of herbs that could treat your insomnia partially, but it won’t be able to break the curse. You need a witch to break the curse made by a witch. There’s nothing the likes of us can do.” Grito explained with a sigh.
Then he remembered something and asked, “Was Alex able to find one during his mission?”
Damien shook his head, “No, he wasn’t.”
Grito frowned for a second, but sighed for the nth time the next second. “It is as expected. Even if witches still exist, they won’t be willing to appear in the open. Such a pity.”
Damien didn’t say anything to that. Only a few people know that his wolf is going into rampage, the reason why he uses a mask and his insomnia was a result of a curse that has been placed on him since he was a child.
Then, the pack has gone to war with a witch clan due to a feud and although the pack had emerged victorious, the young Damien suffered a catastrophe.
His wolf awakened early, and people thought that happened because he would a talented warrior in the future but it was because of the curse. Every full moon, his wolf would rage and go on a rampage, destroying everything on sight.
Even at a young age, only a few people managed to stop him. But as he grew older, he became unstoppable and things gradually went out of control.
His image, to the eyes of his people, became that of a cruel and ruthless leader. But every full moon, he would suffer under the hands of the curse, his wolf would howl in pain and his body would break down.
Wounds that had healed from previous battles would emerge and new wounds would take weeks to heal, unlike the fast recuperating abilities of Alphas.
Only Grito, Albert and a few others knew how much this seemingly cold man had endured under the curse. That is why Grito put it upon himself to travel abroad, hoping to either find a witch or herbs that could alleviate Damien’s issue.
He has watched Damien grow up, and according to the symptoms of the curse, Damien won’t be able to reach the age of thirty before he passes away. Grito could not watch that happen, so a year ago, he left.
And he didn’t come until he found something useful.
“So what are these herbs that you are talking about?” Damien asked.
“It is a toxic herb I found in a mysterious swamp. The curse has released a toxin into your body, so to battle the toxin, we need another toxin and this herb will do half of the work. At least, it should stop the curse for a few weeks while I do more research and we will continue to search for any signs of a witch.” Grito explained and Damien thought about it before nodding.
“However, the process is excruciating. You might need the presence of that woman before we can go ahead. Since she is able to help with your insomnia, her presence can speed up the process and make things easier for us.”
Damien frowned, “No need. I will be fine on my own.”
“But…”
“When should we start the treatment?”
Grito shook his head helplessly, “Whenever you are ready.”
