Chapter 110 Loosing control

Chapter 110 Loosing control

“What’s going on?” She muttered to herself.

With her other hand, she reached out to caress the horse’s rein, hoping to comfort her.

But in the next moment, the horse bolted.

Her eyes widened in shock.

The horse shot forward wildly while making loud neighing sounds, it no longer followed the track of the field.

Hazel’s hands quickly moved, she pulled on the reins with all her strength, trying to get the horse to either reduce its speed or stop altogether.

But it only made the horse faster as though it was trying to run away from something. Hazel's heart slightly began to race with a hint of fear.

The horse was massive and she was like a puny little thing in comparison to its weight and height. If she fell under the horse, she might be trampled to death.

The thought sent shivers down her spine.

“Hazel!” Alex shouted.

He noticed that something was wrong the moment the horse suddenly increased its speed by a massive magnitude. And when he noticed how Hazel was trying hard to hold onto the reins, his heart sank.

The horse had obviously lost control.

Alex pulled the reins of his horse and clamped his legs tighter around its belly, making the horse increase its speed.

“Hazel, hold onto the reins, I will be right there.” Alex shouted and the wind carried his voice to Hazel who nodded quickly, her heartbeat speeding up.

She held onto the reins like she was holding onto her dear life, but the horse kept shaking its head as though it was uncomfortable.

“Easy, easy. Are you okay?” Hazel muttered softly, caressing the steed’s mane, but it did not stop.

The reins pulled harshly on Hazel’s hand and the friction made her hands hurt. Hazel struggled to steady herself, but her balance was gradually shifting.

At one point, her body bounced and nearly flew off the horse due to how fast it was galloping.

Hazel's heart thumped wildly and her pupils shrank. At this rate, she might really fall off.

But she could feel the distance between her horse and Alex’s horse gradually shrinking.

But the mare only grew more frantic as time went by.

Damien watched this scene, and his pupils dilated. He steered his horse forward and rushed towards her quickly. But because he had been behind Alex all along, Alex was faster.

That was when Hazel felt the saddle slip beneath her as the steed lurched forward again. In fear, she tried to hold herself still but in the process, she lost hold of the reins and her face finally turned pale.

“Oh no!” She whispered to herself.

With nothing to hold onto, her balance faltered completely. She tried holding on to the mane, but it was slippery and kept slipping from her already bloody hands.

She was about to fall.

Her body bounced helplessly on the saddle, gradually slipping from atop the horse.

Just as she braced herself for a harsh fall, a figure shot towards her, grabbed her by the waist and together, they fell off the horse.

It all happened swiftly.

From where Alex’s horse pulled alongside Hazel's, to when he leapt towards Hazel and to when the two of them crashed into the grass together.

Alex protected Hazel in his embrace and took most of the impact of the fall. The sound of something breaking, followed by Alex’s pained grunt entered Hazel’s ear as their bodies finally came to a stop after skidding multiple distances away.

All Hazel knew was that everything had spinned before finally stopping.

And then she remembered that she was in Alex’s arms. When she tried to stand, he suddenly groaned in pain and she froze, not daring to move anymore.

He asked, “You okay?”

“I should be the one to ask you that. A…are you okay?” She asked worriedly.

“I think so. Just a dislocated shoulder bone, but I will be fine.” He spoke with a hint of a smile in his tone.

“You can still smile, so that means you are fine.” Hazel pointed out and he suddenly groaned out loud.

“Oh, my shoulder. I feel like I’m dying.” He exclaimed in exaggeration and Hazel’s lower lip twitched before she rolled her eyes.

“Work on your acting more. That sounded so fake.” She said and Alex chuckled.

“You almost gave me a heart attack.” He said.

“I almost had a heart attack as well.” She replied, still feeling the goosebumps on her skin.

The loud sounds of the hooves finally came to a stop a few distances away and Damien’s horse arrived. When he saw how protectively Alex was holding Hazel, his eyes darkened.

Something dangerous flashed in his eyes and his jaw tightened.

Killian also arrived at the same time and they both dismounted their horses at the same time. Seeing the intimate position Alex and Hazel were in, Killian finally realized the reason why the temperature suddenly dropped.

“Well…you both can stand up now.” He said, carefully giving Damien a meaningful glance.

Damien did not notice, his gaze fixed on Hazel who was already trying to help Alex up.

“Are you both okay?” Killian asked and Hazel was the one to reply.

“I’m okay, but he is injured.” She said, her voice sounding somewhat concerned. She did not notice Damien quickly or she would have seen the murderous glint that flashed in his eyes at her statement.

Killian gave Alex a look and rolled his eyes, “What is there to be worried about? What is that injury to him? He is just pretending.”

Alex groaned inwardly and when Hazel turned back to look at him, he gave a pitiful expression, “I am in pain, he is just saying rubbish.”

Hasel shook her head helplessly, but resisted the urge to push him away. He had done what he did for her sake after all.

“But what was wrong with that horse? Wasn't it fine at first?” Hazel finally remembered something crucial and asked.
