Chapter 109 Riding behind her.
Chapter 109 Riding behind her.
“Come, I will help you get on the horse.” Alex said, but Hazel didn’t really think she needed help with that.
“I might not be able to ride a horse, but I can at least get on it.” She said, and Alex smiled.
“That’s more like it. You will get the hang of it after racing through the entire field.” He replied and she nodded.
Hazel said nothing more and carefully, she mounted the horse. The horse was also quite calm, it made no move and for someone who was still learning like Hazel, things were made much easier.
Hazel adjusted herself on the saddle of the horse and her vision became higher. Her horse was taller than normal horses, Hazel felt like she had risen higher, almost like she was flying somewhat.
The feeling was new and addictive. It was a different feeling to when she morphed and raced by herself. With the horse, she didn’t have to do anything and just had to control the rein of the horses, she didn’t have to use her strength at all.
Hazel instantly liked that feeling.
No wonder even Damien found it fun.
As her thoughts went back to him, she turned in his direction and realized that he had been staring at her.
For how long? She had no idea. She had been too busy getting herself familiarized with the horse, she didn’t notice his gaze.
But he looked away not long after, calmly at that.
Hazel just rolled her eyes and said nothing.
Beside her, Alex approached her on his brown steed, “Are you okay? Do you need help or should we ride together?”
If Damien had been the one to suggest that, Hazel might have considered it. But with Alex, No. She might not have used a horse before, but she wasn’t so weak that she won’t be able to balance herself on one.
Moreover, the horse had not even started walking yet.
“I think I am okay like this.” She replied calmly.
“That’s good. Don’t forget to hold the reins tightly, don’t let go no matter what. Steer the horse in the direction you want, it will only go in the direction you drag him too. She might be bigger, but she listens to the person with the reins the most. Place your leg under her belly, it also helps to stabilize your body and push her the direction you want.” Alex gave some other instructions and she nodded.
For someone who learns fast like Hazel, it was a piece of cake for her.
“Very good. I’m starting to believe it when you say you learn fast.” Alex said and she gave a soft smile.
“Stay close to me for a walk first. Only race when you feel you are ready. I will be right behind you.” Alex added and with that, Hazel conditioned the horse to start moving.
The horse neither softly and its hooves made a soft thud on the ground as it began to move.
Hazel’s smile widened, “This feels so good.”
Killian, on the other hand, seemed bored on his own steed and he yawned lazily.
Damien waited at the starting line, his large black horse shifting impatiently under him, but Damien just waited.
“Can we race already?” Killian mumbled, but Alex ignored him and together with Hazel, they walked to the starting line together.
“Are you ready?” Alex asked with a grin. His excitement permeable and infectious, Hazel found herself smiling widely as well.
“I’m ready when you are.” She said, not the least bit scared.
The four of them stood on the starting line calmly, not actually taking the race seriously because of Hazel who was among them.
A guard came forward at that moment, he stood at the sides of the field with a red cloth in his hand.
The cloth dropped a second after.
Following Alex’s ‘Go’, the horses took off.
Hooves thundered across the ground and dust rose into the air as the horses surged forward.
Well, just Killian’s horse.
Hasel rode her horse at a moderate speed, Alex rode silently behind her, not disturbing her fun but also keeping a distance that would allow him to help her if necessary.
Surprisingly, Damien also rode behind her, Hazel would have smiled if she wasn’t so fascinated by the idea of riding a horse by herself for the first time.
Alex turned around. He gave Damien a look and said nothing. He had a subtle feeling that there was something off about the air between Damien and Hazel, but he could not find out what it was.
But Damien did not stop him when he said he wanted to pursue her and Alex also didn’t want to investigate Hazel, it sounded rude and impolite to him.
So, he just kept his suspicion to himself and fixed his gaze on Hazel, who was in front of her. Her smile made him smile as well, he had to admit that Hazel was a very beautiful woman, a reason why he found himself falling for her at first sight.
He had not been lying, he really does like her.
And he wanted to court her.
The wind rushed against Hazel's face, brushing her hair to the side as her horse kicked up speed. It was an exhilarating feeling of freedom.
She felt like a bird who had finally escaped from its cages and took off into the sky. That feeling of freedom was almost addictive.
Therefore, she increased her horse’s speed, wanting to go faster.
Alex saw this move of her and parted his lips to say something, but when his gaze fell on the smile on her face, he swallowed what he was about to say and kept quiet.
He would be right here after all, nothing can happen to her in his presence.
Alex rode smoothly behind her, but Killian’s horse was already very far ahead.
Hazel held the rein tightly, making soft exciting noises.
But that was when the horse suddenly jerked. It was a subtle move, but Hazel who was on it felt it.
Initially, she thought it had bumped into something, but the horse suddenly gave a sharp, startled whine that made Hazel's heart skip a bit.
