Chapter 290 Why Can She Have a Child, But I Can't?
Alexander said, "Grace, I know what you're worried about. Do you think I'm the kind of person who's indecisive?"
Grace replied, "No. I don't think you're indecisive. I'm just worried that since you two grew up together, you might show her mercy."
She could even imagine that even if Alexander truly steeled himself to force Emily to abort the child, if Emily fell to her knees before him, crying and begging pitifully, he might soften due to her tears and feel compassion.
Alexander clearly adored Liam, so Emily must believe that as long as the children were his, he would love her children just as much as he loved Liam.
She would definitely grit her teeth and insist on having the babies!
Alexander said, "If the children are mine, I'll make her abort them."
Grace asked, "But what if she refuses? If she's unwilling, you can't actually force her, can you?"
Unless he used force, physically dragging Emily to the hospital and having the doctor perform the abortion against her will.
Alexander said, "If she refuses, then I'll let her have them."
Grace frowned, "Let her have them?"
Alexander said, "If she insists on having them, then let her. She'll face the consequences herself."
Previously, he had asked Emily about the children she was carrying.
Emily had vehemently denied that they were his.
Since that's what she said, he would assume the children weren't his!
But then she told Grace the children were his, which meant she was lying to him.
This could only mean she was trying to use the children to gain something from him!
So he would give her two paths to choose from—let her select which road to take and bear the consequences herself!
Grace said, "Alexander, handle this matter yourself. I hope you can give me a satisfactory resolution! But I won't interfere with any of your decisions, because I trust you!"
Alexander smiled and gently kissed her, "Yes, I won't let you down."
...
Newtown Apartments.
Emily returned from the convenience store, carrying two bags of daily necessities. Just as she reached her door, she suddenly saw Alexander standing there.
The hallway lights were old and faulty, flickering on and off.
He stood motionless like an elegant statue, startling Emily.
"Alexander?"
Emily seemed surprised, "What brings you here?"
Though she asked this aloud, she knew in her heart that Grace must have told him everything about the hospital encounter, and he had come to confront her face-to-face!
She forced herself to remain calm and smiled, "Whatever it is, let's talk inside!"
Emily mentally rehearsed her words while walking over to unlock the door.
After opening it, Emily entered first, with Alexander following closely behind and closing the door.
Emily placed the shopping bags on the coffee table and prepared to make coffee, but Alexander said coolly, "Don't bother. Sit down first—I have questions for you."
Emily nervously set down the coffee pot and sat on the couch.
She looked up to see Alexander still standing, his tall frame creating an overwhelming sense of pressure in the cramped space.
She asked uneasily, "Won't you sit?"
Alexander said, "I only have a few questions. I'll leave once I'm done."
His brows remained furrowed as his gaze suddenly fell on her swollen belly, "Emily, I want an answer from you. Are the children in your womb mine?"
Emily froze, lowered her head, and remained silent for a moment!
Alexander said, "This isn't a difficult question. Yes, or no."
Emily said, "What does it matter if they are or aren't? Either way, I'm definitely having them!"
Alexander said, "Don't give me an evasive answer. You said it yourself—you're definitely having these children regardless. I just want you to answer whether these children are actually mine."
Emily seemed conflicted.
Alexander kept his hands in his suit pockets, his cold face completely expressionless. She couldn't read his inner thoughts from his icy demeanor.
She didn't dare answer his question directly!
But he seemed to have anticipated her attitude and said coldly, "Actually, I have plenty of ways to find out the truth about the children you're carrying. As far as I know, once pregnancy reaches a certain stage, amniotic fluid can be extracted for paternity testing. When that time comes, you won't be able to hide it. Your refusal to talk now—are you trying to stall me? You want to wait until the children are too developed to abort safely, so you're trying to drag this out!"
Emily sighed, "Alexander, at this point, what reason do I have to hide anything from you? Grace told you everything, didn't she! In that case, let's be direct! The children in my womb are yours!"
Alexander's face instantly darkened, "So you're saying your previous claims were lies?"
Emily said, "I was scared—scared that if you knew, you'd force me to abort them!"
Alexander leaned against the wall, his eyes cold and clear, "I see. You stole the samples from the sperm bank and went abroad to secretly undergo IVF?"
Emily suddenly stood up, her face flushed red, and screamed hysterically, "She forced me to do this!! She was the one who competed with me first! When you two divorced, didn't she also secretly have your children without telling you? If she hadn't given you twin sons, would you have had a change of heart toward her? If she can have sons for you, why can't I?! My sons will only be more outstanding and excellent than hers! If she can have children, why can't I? She used children to bind your heart—why can't I do the same?"
Alexander let out a cold laugh, "Is that what you think?"
Emily shot back, "Isn't it? You're remarrying her because she gave you two sons and you want to be responsible for her, right? She used those two sons to steal you away from me—why can't I do the same?"
She became more agitated as she spoke, walking up to Alexander and gripping his arm tightly, "Alexander! Don't let her deceive you! This woman planned it all from the beginning! Her methods are too clever! She just wanted to use her sons to climb up the ladder, steal you away, and from then on be your wife, living worry-free in luxury! Those two children were just her stepping stones!"
Alexander said, "Don't judge or speculate about others based on your own scheming mindset."
Emily exclaimed, "If that's what you think, I can only say you don't understand women! Women understand women! How do you know what she's really thinking? Do you think she's so great and selfless? Do you think she truly loves you? You're wrong! What she loves is only the added value that comes with the title of Mrs. Hayes!"
He was supposed to be hers.
What right did Grace have to steal her man?
She was simply giving Grace a taste of her own medicine!
