Chapter 50 Chapter 50

Chapter 50 Chapter 50
After the second gunshot, Jeremy knew something was terribly wrong, so he glanced out through the window to see people running around.

Chills ran down his spine and he ran out of the room, only to be cornered by the only other mature male omega.

"Jeremy..."

"Aiden? What the hell is going on?"

"Listen, Jeremy."

The man held Jeremy by the shoulders and looked deeply into his eyes.

"We're being attacked."

Jeremy's heart did a somersault and landed in his stomach.

He shook his head in denial.

This was not happening.

"Jeremy, are you listening to me? We have to fight back."

"My child... the nursery."

Jeremy was about to rush past him, but the older man held him back.

"The kids are safe, Jeremy. We have to help our people."

"But my child..."

The man led Jeremy to the closest balcony window to see some female omegas moving all the children to the safe basement.

He tapped Jeremy's shoulder.

"Those kids are safe, but now we have to do our part to keep that safety."

"My mate...?"

"He's already out there. Come on, let's go, Jeremy."

And so he found himself mounted on a watchtower, shooting at enemy wolves with only one thought in his head.

To protect his family.

It was chaotic, but somehow he managed to stay calm, shooting precisely even though his heart was beating wildly. However everything came to a stop the moment he saw Jaden through the binocular scope of his gun running on his little feet while crying.

His world stopped and horror filled him, his heart beat got even faster. He didn't even have time to think before he stood up and ran through the field towards the child.

Drey was close. He could smell him, and he prayed that if he didn't make it in time, at least Drey would.

"Jaden!!"

He screamed as he lunged for the boy and caught him in his arms, and just then a bullet was fired in his direction.

He fell, still holding tightly onto his child when Drey swooped in and picked them up.

Jeremy had not been hit, but the bullet had landed so close that he was completely destabilized.

"Jeremy, can you hear me?" Drey patted his cheeks. "Come on, let's go."

Another bullet was fired at them but as Jeremy stood up and when he looked back, his eyes widened and he gasped.

"Chris..." He stuttered. The alpha was clutching his side as blood trickled out.

"Not now, Jeremy. We have to get Jaden to safety."

"But he's been hit. He's bleeding."

Jeremy protested, but Drey was already dragging him away and fast toward a safer corner.

There Jeremy finally broke down while holding onto his baby.

"How did we get here? I thought we were okay. I thought the world government granted us freedom."

Drey hugged Jeremy to his chest, sandwiching Jaden between them.

"This isn't the world government's doing. It's an attack from a few individuals who don't want Rendro to rise again." Drey pulled away and held Jeremy's face in his palms. "I'll lead you to the basement. Stay there with Jaden."

"What about you?"

"I have to see this through to the end."

"I... I can still help."

"No, Jaden needs you more."

Jeremy nodded sadly and looked up at Drey again.

"Don't die, Drey. Make sure you come back to us."

Drey pulled him into a short hug and once they were ready, they bolted up and ran toward the direction of the basement entrance.

As they ran, Jeremy briefly glanced toward Chris, who was still lying there unmoving.

Tears ran down his face.

This was hell.

Meanwhile, Mica was fighting in her wolf form, barreling down on their enemies with her claws and fangs.

Nobody who came near her stood a chance, but at the same time her wolf form was so huge that every bullet aimed at her didn't miss. She'd growl every time that happened and become even more violent and fierce.

Oliver saw this and protected her with his gun, aiming in the directions the bullets were coming from.
Mica glanced in his direction and leapt at him, but didn't go straight for him.

She leapt over him and hit the wolf that had been quietly creeping up on Oliver.

Mica engaged in a fight with the wolf who was a true alpha because he managed to hold his own against her for a while before being killed, but not before delivering severe damage to Mica's already wounded body.

Mica staggered, her eyes dizzy.

Oliver turned to go to her, but she snarled.

"Don't, Oliver. Please, defend my home."

Her voice came through their link, and his face turned sad.

Tears welled up in his eyes.

Just when he thought she was down, she pressed her paws into the blood-soaked dirt, let out a deafening growl, and dashed back into the battle.

Oliver could only watch and try to help her the best he could from where he stood.
But his chest hurt as though those bullets were passing through his own body.

Drey helped Jeremy and Jaden down the basement before running off.

"Why was Jaden alone!" He growled at the omegas who were supposed to protect the children.

The young girl was visibly shaking, the fierce pheromones from the wolves above already too much for her to handle, and now he is adding his bitter one.

"I'm sorry, he slipped away when I wasn't watching..."

She's cut off when a thud was heard from above and then a beta male landed right in front of them. He smirked as his eyes landed on Jeremy.

"Cute looking freaks. Just my "

Jeremy handed Jaden to the omega girl with a glare

"Lose him again and I kill you" he turned to face the other male "run further into the mines, I'll hold him back"

The omegas scrambled away with the children while Jeremy stood his ground.

The beta's grin grew wider as he lunged for him

"I'm so gonna enjoy this!" He shouted as he grabbed the omega's head and slammed him into the wall before proceeded to dragged him over the coarse surface.

Jeremy blinked trying to stay conscious, his head ringing. He shakes his head and takes a fighting stance only to be slammed back into the wall again, blood dripping down his head.

He screamed as he hooked his hand under the stronger man's legs and grabbed his crotch, squeezed whatever he could grab painfully tightly and when the beta lost balance he flipped him over and struck his sharp claws into his neck multiple times, killing him.

His head was pounding as he rolled off the dead man. His ears rang and so many pictures and sounds filtered through his mind.

He lay on the ground hyperventilating.

"Mom

Dad...

brother...." and then he lost his unconsciousness.

By the early morning, everything was over, there were more Rendro wolves dead than alive. But the packs that had come to attack suffered even greater losses, with a few escaping while others were captured.

Rendro had won the battle, but the cost was enormous. Oliver's hands shook as he reached out to place his shirt over Mica's naked body and lifted her limp human body onto his lap. His heart clenched at how cold her body was.

He shook his head.

This isn't happening again.

"Mica... Mica..."

"Open your eyes, Mica."

"Come on baby, don't do this to me!"

He pulled her to his chest, his tears falling freely down his face and he let out a gut-wrenching cry when she made no movement, but his voice was drowned out by the many other cries across the field, almost everyone had lost someone.

Drey saw this and felt genuinely sorry for Oliver. Having to go through losing his mate twice.

"Tend to the wounded and prepare to bury those who have fallen." Caroline's voice came from a small hill above. She was badly injured too, yet she stood gallantly, no pain or emotion visible on her face.
"Today we mourn. Tomorrow we show the world the result of their actions and promise them that it will keep happening if this continues." She paused, clutched the side of her stomach, and took a deep breath. "Take the wounded inside and patch them up the best you can" she said one last time before carefully sliding down from the rock.

Drey glanced one more time at Oliver.
His own arm had been injured by claws, but nothing major.

So he turned to the other person he had hidden behind a tree.

Chris.

But when he got there, Chris was gone.

He ran over to the basement and saw the omega's taking the children out through the back entrance of the basement that lead directly to the pack house.

"Where's Jeremy and Jaden?" He asked an omega there who was caring for crying children.

"He's not here."

Drey's eyes widened.

"What?"
