Chapter 70 Deceit Over Truth
"Hi Thyago, I brought you an apple pie!" To his surprise, Elena suddenly burst out into his office that morning.
He gently massage his temple when he suddenly felt dizzy. These past few days lacking of sleep made him dizzy and depressed. Bea's not talking to him and she kept on ignoring him for conniving to her biological mother. He has to admit he made a mistake. He should have talked to his wife first and let her know about her mother when the old woman ask an help to reach for her daughter. He can't blame Bea to be mad for hiding that from her and choosing to connive with her Mom instead. Yes, he might have a good purpose but the fact still remains he hurt her for breaking her trust. His wife couldn't seem to forgive him no matter what he do. He can no longer take her ignorance and he didn't know what to do anymore. He loves Bea so much that it tortured him when she ignores his efforts and doesn't talk to him. It actually gives him sleepless nights and he couldn't even concentrate on his job anymore.
Now seeing Elena in her office again irritates him. These past few days she always barge in his office bringing him any kind of food. Elena is a kind and sweet woman and he knew it's typical of her doing this stuff but he was already married and things are different now. She was actually one of the reasons why his wife and he are not on good terms now. Bea is being jealous of her.
About the fight with Elena and his wife, he was not intending to side Elena. He was just trying to tell her that maybe she misunderstood her because the typical Elena is naughty and sometimes careless to her words but she was sweet and kind though. Besides, they don't like each other because of their rift in the past that's maybe why Bea easily got offended by Elena that tends to misunderstand the latter. Perhaps it was a wrong idea to ask Elena to fix the rift between them. He has to admit it was his fault he provoked his wife when he should supposed to understand her because of her condition. She was pregnant and it was so insensitive of him to not consider his wife's emotion. Bea got even more upset when he meddle between her and her Mom's relationship. He made stupid decisions without consulting his wife, now their rift has gone further and it's kinda hard for him to fix this anymore.
He needs to fix their relationship before he loses his wife. He was scared to lose his wife and that's what he fears the most. She was his everything and life will be nothing without her. He has done a lot of things to completely have her and he will not let all those efforts will be put to waste.
And in order to fix their relationship, he has to start with Elena first. He should tell her to stop visiting in the office that might give his employees and his wife a wrong impression too.
"Hey, what's wrong? You don't seem happy that I came here." Elena's face turned sad as her lips pouted in disappointment.
"Elena, let's talk seriously... "
"Okay, but you gotta taste my apple pie first." She said naughtily while flashing him a sweet smile.
She opened the plastic cover of the tray she was bringing and put it on his table. She took a slice of it and was about to feed him but he never took a bite. He suddenly felt disgusted about what she was doing. There she goes again, she'll divert the conversation and act like she didn't hear anything that I said. Very childish and stubborn...
"Elena, stop doing this!" He stated disgustingly.
"Sorry..." She replied apologetically and pouted her lips in disappointment but that gesture irritates him more.
"You can't just barge in my office whenever you like, you know..." He stated annoyingly.
"What's wrong? I always do that before," she replied innocently.
"Exactly, that was before. Things before are different because I am married now. People might get a wrong impression about us." He explained gently hoping Elena will get what he was trying to say.
"I don't care about them." She stubbornly said instead.
"But I do. My employees thought about us maliciously before that we are in a relationship whatsoever, and it's my fault I never bother correcting it but things are different now. I'm married and they might give us a wrong impression about your frequent visit here. Besides, Bea and I are not on good terms and you're one of the reasons why we fight too much. She's being jealous of you and I can't blame her. Maybe you should stop visiting in the office and bringing me anything. That's now my wife's obligation so you shouldn't be bothering yourself anymore." He saw the tinge of pain that crossed Elena's eyes. He somehow felt guilty for the last sentence he stated.
"You know your wife is childish and preposterous, Thyago? Why she can't understand that we have been long-time friends? Seriously, how can you put up with a woman like that?"
"I know well the woman I marry and she's not childish or preposterous! I love her so much so stop speaking ill to her because I won't tolerate it!" She told her angrily.
Hearing Elena speaks ill to his wife irritates him more. He can't allow anyone even Elena speaks badly to the woman she loves especially if it's not true.
"Hey don't be upset, I'm sorry okay? Come on, try to taste my apple pie. This might help you loosen up." She was about to offer her again the food but he ignores it and put it back on the table.
"I'm serious, I don't want you visiting my office again when you have no important purpose." He saw him look at her straight as his eyes slowly pierced in anger.
"You're so harsh. You know all I did all these years is to care for you, Thyago. As simple as that? Just because Bea requested, you will get rid of me that easily?" Elena's face suddenly turned dark and somber.
How can he tell her it's his own decision and Bea has nothing to do with it? He got stunned when minutes later, he suddenly saw her weep exaggeratedly but that didn't catch his sympathy.
Fuck! What is she crying about? I might offend her, yes, but crying was a bit exaggerated. I can't believe she accuse my wife of being childish when it was her who's being unreasonable and childish. Damn, she's starting to irritate me.
"I'm sorry if I offended you--"
"After what I've done, you'll just get rid of me just like that? I've been with you all these years, Thyago. I've been with you through your ups and downs, I supported you all the way through your success but you never seem to realize that. You never appreciated all my efforts for you. You're a jerk, you know what! While you were busy searching and planning how to get her, I'm right behind you hoping you will see me but you never did because you were so stupid enough to even realized that I love you! I still love you after all these years, dammit!" With that, shock and irritation engulfed him after hearing her revelation.
Crap! What did she just say?!!!
"The moment we broke up and decided to be just friends, I thought you just needed space so I gave that to you. I did everything just to please you. I acted as your friend although it hurts me seeing you being with different kinds of women. I thought if I waited and decided to always be there for you, you'll soon realize that I'm the one for you. I waited for you and keep on supporting you but what did you do? You married Bea instead. You were so insensitive, you know that? You keep busying yourself chasing her while I'm always by your side waiting to be noticed and be loved by you. And now you're taking away from me even this chance to see you? You were so cruel!" Elena was now weeping desperately and there he was just staring at her being stunned with her revelations.
Damn it! How did he never notice her feelings towards him? If he had only known it earlier, he would clarify things out with her to avoid this thing to happen. He never initiated anything nor gave her such false hopes, so it was not his fault he fell hard for him. He made it clear they broke up with no hard feelings and they agreed to remain friends for the sake of their families and it was even way back in high school days when they had that short relationship. She got infatuated with her so she courted her but after Bea kissed her, all he thinks about is that kiss and he got so guilty when Bea left town because of him so he break up with Elena months after because she lost interest with the latter. He didn't expect Elena really fall hard for him. It was not his fault and he never gave her hope that he has feelings for her still.
"Tell me? What did you see in her that you can never find in me?" Elena emotionally asked.
"Love, Elena. I found love in her which I never found in any woman but her. You knew all along what I feel for her and you knew what I've done just to have her. I love Bea ever since and I never kept that a secret from you. So what's this? What's all about this declaration of love towards me?" This time he decided to be frank and cruel. He knew it was rude but it's better to slap the truth earlier so realization will strike on her easily and get awakened.
"I love you more than you could ever know, Thyago. I can even love you more than Bea does. Cant, you see that she doesn't love you enough to swallow her pride and make up with you? And me, I'm willing to do everything just for you to love me back. I'm trying my very best to have you but you can't seem to notice it. Now you want me out of your life just that easily? You're so unfair, Thyago!" She shouted frustratedly and that made him angry.
Love her back? He even doubt if he ever did love her? What he has for her is infatuation and that infatuation fades away immediately as soon as he realized his true feelings for Bea.
"What the fuck are you talking about? I thought all along that we clear things out about us eight years ago. You knew all along that it was Bea that I love so I don't owe you anything. It was your false hope that made you hurt this way so don't blame me for your misery!" He shouted back angrily.
He can't seem to believe seeing this side of Elena now. Is she really the girl he grew up with? To be honest, the thin string of patience he got for the woman is about to break. He wanted to keep his self-control and calm disposition towards this situation but she was stubborn and she blames her like it was his fault.
"How dare you! I did everything for you to the point of making lies to Bea. That woman, she's too stupid to believe all of my lies but you were more stupid to believe with my pretensions. You even sided me remember? Well if she really loves you enough, she'll fight for you and will not get defeated towards some shallow lies I made." With that, his patience with the woman finally explodes as his eyes shoot daggers into her.
So it's true, She provoked her wife and tell her lies the reason she got mad and lose control that night. He can't believe he sided this deceitful bitch towards his wife.
"My wife is right all along, you have plans in breaking our marriage apart. Shit! I can't believe I sided you over her. I just can't believe I was blinded by your pretensions!" He stated mad as hell.
He knew now why his wife was sulking and keep ignoring her for days because of that reason. He never believed her when she told him Elena has plans in breaking their marriage apart. How stupid jerk he was to not believe Bea!
"Yes, I lied but I just did that because of too much love I have for you. Can't you get it? I'm willing to stoop down on my level and do even desperate measures just to have your love. I love you that much, Thyago..."
"You're sick, woman. Get out to my office! I don't wanna see your face anymore!" He shouted angrily. He could feel now his blood boiling in too much anger.
Elena was so desperate and he really can't believe the girl who used to be his friend has this evil side. He never thought she could make lies and do such pretensions just to break his relationship with his wife. They grew up together and he knew her as a sweet and generous lady although she was naughty and unreasonable. He never thought she was capable of doing such things that's why he was confident siding her over his wife. She had changed already, perhaps it was a part of her he has only seen just now just like Bea has been telling him. He had never hurt a woman before but hearing her confess her lies and desperation towards the mess she did on his relationship with his wife made him wanna hurt her physically so it's better to shoo her away before he lose control and so something he will regret.
"You're so rude. Can't you just give me a chance and try to love me back, Thyago?" Elena pleaded still while crying.
"What fucking chance are you talking about? I'm married now. Just get out please..." He replied solemnly, still trying to calm himself.
He somehow felt pity for the woman but thinking what the mess she's done just only awaken his anger that made him wanna curse her endlessly. He saw Elena's shoulders drop in hopelessness as she was about to go and leave.
"Do me a big favor, Elena. Get the hell out of my life too. From now on I'll forget that you once became my friend. I hope you do the same." He stated in a very harsh and bitter way.
He never missed the pain that crossed her eyes and how her face turned broken when he dropped those words. He knew he had hurt her too bad but he never felt any regrets towards it. She just deserves it. When she left and close the door to his office, he never gave her even a single glance. He tried to calm himself after she left and think of ways how to apologize to Bea until he close his eyes and felt wanted to sleep for a moment...
