Same damn room
Same damn room
Elsie’s pov~
The same room.
Words failed me, looking around the nicely done panic room, wondering who else knows it's there.
“You remind me of the younger you” he sneered close to my ears.
The men outside didnt give up either, they banged on the door endlessly and tried to blow it open, but it wouldn't bulge.
“My younger self was an idiot who loved too deeply and got burned” I replied, attempting to detach myself from him but he held me there.
The door clanged and I gasped, holding his shirt and leaning closer protectively.
Like a lamb seeking its shepherd.
Realising my foolishness, out of fear, I pulled away from him again. " You need to let my arm go, Angelo,” I started.
He wouldn't, his hands firmly around the animal print panties I still can't remember owning.
The door banged again.
“They can try but they will never get to you”
I gulped back spit, scared out of my mind with no way out, stuck in a prison room with my least favorite person.
“No service down here?” I asked showing him my phone, he tried to snatch it but I pulled it away in time.
“Dont you want me to take you down memory lane?” He asked, teasing me again with the said panties that belonged to me.
“And why in the hell do you think I'd want to do that?” I asked.
He was quiet and so where the men at the door and that frightened me.
“They stopped” I started, he looked towards the door with a frown, “Why do you think that is?” I asked again.
We turned to one of the cameras and we could see them regrouping among themselves, before the leader emerged from within and knocked on the door.
It was a woman, she had bright hazel eyes and her hair was rolled up into a high bun.
A knock? Why? What could they possibly have to discuss?
“What do they want? I thought you said they only speak with bullets and violence” I asked my freshly confused husband who was just as clueless as I am.
“Yes, that's the only way they’ve ever spoken, this is new, and I dont trust new, dont say anything, I'll do the speaking, just stay quiet and stay out of the way” he instructed.
I was uncomfortable with the thought of him interacting with them on my behalf but it sounded like a logical idea as of right now.
“Miss Mafia” she started, I looked up at st angelo who made s shushing sound.
I heard a faint laugh before it stopped again.
“Don Moretti then, it seems you and I have much to discuss” she started.
“Whatever it is you want to say, you could have said it at the meeting, it's uncalled for that you would attack my home unprovoked just to discuss with me” he replied.
Slowly I walked towards the camera and sat in front of it, studying the woman speaking.
She looked brave, and young too, no more than thirty if you ask me.
“Our business is with the Mafia Queen, she’s the new inheritor for Elias’s interest, it's only fair we try to talk to her before the next meeting” she started.
“She’s not here,” he lied plainly, “we both know thats a lie but ill allow it for posterity sake, weve scanned the room and its showing there’s someone else breathing in that room and i know its you Elsie, this has nothing to do with You Don moretti, but since you want to act as her mouth piece why dont you do the honours and tell her why we are after her,” she paused before taking a deep breath.
“Keep in mind Don Moretti, we have in no way been sent by any of the members, Miss Mafia has violated a very sacred rule and im starting to wonder if she’s even aware of the gravity of it” she added.
I looked up at my husband who in turn gestured to me to be patient and quiet.
There was a strange seriousness in his eyes, but what was this woman talking about?
What could I have done to deserve to be hunted this way?
Like a rabid dog with no control.
“What is she talking about?” I finally asked, as quietly as possible but she’d heard me.
“Miss mafia, I believe your husband has been keeping something very important from you, something someone should have told you from the first day you filled Elias’s shoes”. I hear the woman explain.
It seems a perfect stranger is more willing to tell me what the hell is going on than my husband.
What is Angelo hiding me from or rather hiding from me?
“Dont believe anything she says” he finally said looking around the room.
“Why not? You are not willing to tell me what's going on, you are hiding something from me Angelo and I want to know why it is, why are these people after me?” I asked, Angelo was silent again, This time he had tossed the panties aside and started walking towards the corner of the room where he started to play around on the wall.
“What the hell are you doing?” I asked in confusion, “Is my life a joke to you right now?” I asked.
He just glared at me, finally a bright light flashed on the wall and he placed his entire palm on it.
A small compartment opened at he took out a rifle and something that seemed to be a satellite phone.
He placed the antenna on his lips begging me with his eyes not to speak.
“Don Moretti, rules are rules, dues have to be paid, hiding her in an iron dome doesn't make a difference, we are still going to find her” the woman continued.
She knocked on the door one last time,
“Elsie if you are in there, im going to tell you this, figure out why he didnt tell you about us and why this kindly visit was very important to us, the next time we may not be this merciful, im only allowing this conversation because its clear to me you know nothing about why we are doing this to you” she paused before continuing.
“What hurts me the most is that we are not at liberty to deliver that news to you, only your husband Angelo can, yet he is keeping it from you, Your husband knows why we want you dead, but he won't tell you, Can you still trust him?”
I looked at Angelo who had pressed the keypad, now he was waiting for an answer.
What could this strange lady mean by this, trapped in an iron tin with the one man who knows why im being hunted and for some reason best known to him, I can't know.
“What is she talking about? Why are they after me?” No response, but his eyes were begging for a chance to surrender.
I'd calculated fallouts from my revenge, little effects I've come to tolerate but this wicked Revenge of mine was turning to something else, deeper truths coming to light.
Dangerous men were after me! And not my good-for-nothing husband, how?
What am I missing?
Who am I? Other than being the latest only Female Don in Chicago, and sole heiress to my father’s empire Something told me this was more than I expected.
Something else is at play here, and once again my smart husband is at an advantage.
I heard a timer start.
“Alright fun time is over, come out right now or I'll force you out”
The timer kept going and my mind started to race.
“I'll count to ten” she said.
The phone in Angelo’s hands rang again.
“Hello?” It was his sister Selene on the other line.
“10,9,8,7……”
“Do you remember now?” I heard Angelo ask.
I turned to him in confusion, “Remember what?”
“The first time you told me you loved me, right in this very room”
