Tell Me Everything
Tell Me Everything
Getting back to the hospital, Eve walked straight to her father’s room. The two security guards that she had placed there bowed their heads as she walked in slowly. He was still asleep and according to the doctor, he might wake anytime soon and his brain needed rest as well. She sighed as she walked to his bedside and took a seat beside him on the bed.
She was feeling so bad. Her father was lying in this damn bed with oxygen and other machines connected to him and dear lord, it was all her fault. God help her that he comes out of this.
“Father,” she called and held his hand.
“I'm so sorry that this happened. It's all my fault but don't you worry. I already punished the offender. Hence, I'm not going to let anyone trample on us and go Scott-free. I gave her what she deserved.”
Before she knew it, tears started dripping from her eyes. She sniffled before continuing.
“You shouldn't be sad after finding out who it was, Dad. You shouldn't be. I told you that people are not meant to be trusted but you didn't believe me. I hope that you will not get sad after finding out who it was that tried to end your life. You know.” she sniffled.
“These people only know how to betray people that are close to them. They only know how to betray people who trust them to a stupor. I know how it feels, okay? You shouldn't forgive them. That's what I did. I didn't forgive them and now, I'll make their lives a living hell. You should do the same, Papa. People will always step on your feet and take advantage of you because you are nice. You are so nice.”
Eve couldn't hold it further and burst out in tears. This was the first time in a long while that she was crying this way. It has been a long time. Her father didn't deserve this. He never deserved what that woman and her boss planned for him. He was the nicest man that she had met in this world.
When she first met with her father and even though he didn't know at that time that she was his biological daughter, he took her in, paid her bills, and made sure she was comfortable. That was the kind of person that he was. Too kind and now she was starting to hate it.
She was kind to everyone a year ago. She was kind to Melissa, Noah, his mother, all of them but where did it lead her to? If there was something that she has learned from all of these is that good people are always punished and not favored by the almighty whereas, bad people have it all in life.
“I promise you, Father, no one, I mean no one is going to hurt you anymore. I'm going to destroy anyone who dares.”
Bending, she kissed his hand and held it just staring at his face. His face was as soft looking as his heart. He has such a big heart.
“Who hurt you, Eve?”
“Wh…what?”
Her eyes widened realizing that her father just spoke. She looked at him. But his eyes weren't open and he still looked asleep. Was she imagining things?
She stared around the room but they were the only ones in it. The guards were outside. She sighed. It was only an imagination then.
She was about to lay her head on his bed when she heard the voice again. “I asked who hurt you.” She immediately looked expecting to find the same result but this time, his eyes were open and he was staring at her. He raised his other hand that was not in her hold and took off his oxygen.
“Wh…what? What are you doing, Dad?”
She intended to pick up the oxygen mask and put it back on him but he stopped her.
“Don't bother, I'm fine. Help me sit.”
“But…but.”.
“I'm fine, Eve. Just help me sit.”
She nodded and immediately straightened the bed so that he would be able to sit straight on it without stressing. “Do you feel any pains anywhere? Do you want me to call the doctor?” She panicked.
“Calm down, Eve. I asked you a question.”
”That is not important right now. Your health is more important.”
“If it's so, then I'm fine. I want to know everything about you. I want to know who hurt my daughter. I want to know who caused her to be cold-hearted. I heard everything you said, Eve, and I want to know who is the cause of it all. Who hurt my daughter, I want to know. Is it too much to ask of you?”
“It's not, Dad but…”
“No buts this time around. It's been months and I still don't know that part of you that you are trying so hard to hide from the world. I am your father. You know I would have found out everything if I wanted to. I would have found out who the bastards were that hurt you but I didn't. I want us to grow a bond. I want you to be comfortable enough to tell me everything but now it's starting to seem like I don't deserve to know anything.”
“I don't want you to be worried about me. My life is already so complicated. I don't want to add my problems to your mind. I'll be fine.”
“Tell me everything, Eve. Except you want me to go start digging up your past and trust me, I don't mind at all. Who made you put on a strong facade, huh?”
“It's not a facade, Dad. This is who I am.”
“Absolutely not. This is not you. You know, you are a total reflection of your mother. She used to be kind, sweet, and cheerful. That is who you are. This mask you're trying to put on is not you.”
Eve tightened her hold on her shirt. If it were someone else calling her attitude a facade and not her very own father, she would have yelled at the person and told him that he doesn't know anything about her and he has no right to tell her what she is or not.
“No, I'm not kind, meal or anything like that. You have to stop being like this. The world does not care if you're good or not. The world does not care. In fact, life favors people who are strong and heavy- hearted so stop. To think that the people closest to us are the ones who betray us is saddening. Fine, I was betrayed because I was so nice. I….”
Realizing that she was raising her voice which she was not supposed to do, she breathed in and out to calm herself, reminding herself he was sick and she shouldn't be yelling.
“I'm sorry for raising my voice.”
“I don't care. Continue.”
“Can we not speak about this right now? You're sick.” She held his hand. “I promise I'll tell you everything once you get out of this hospital. I'll reveal everything to you.”
He deserved to know everything, She thought. He was her father and sleeping things like that for so long from him would surely hurt his feelings. She would tell him everything once he got out of this place.
“Promise?”
“I’m going to tell you, don't worry. Go to bed, it's late.”
“You should go home and take some rest too. You look exhausted.”
“I'm fine. I'll stay here.”
“You can't stay here, okay? Where will you sleep?”
“On the couch. It's a perfect spot. You go to bed. I'll be here watching over you.”
Mr. Gray sighed.
“Why are you so overprotective? It's not like I'm going to get stolen by someone or something. By the way, the guards are outside in case something like that happens which I'm sure will not.”
“I don't trust them one bit. I don't trust anyone right now. People are not reliable so I'll stay here and watch over you myself. No Objection.”
“Yes, boss.” They both laughed. Eve suddenly gave her father a hug surprising him but he wrapped his hand that wasn't weak around her and patted her head.”
“I'm fine, go to bed.”
“I love you, Dad.”
“I love you too. Now stop acting like a child. You're a full-grown lady.”
“I know. I just can't help it. Am I not allowed to act like a child? I mean… I mean I didn't grow up with you.”
“Okay, okay. Sulk all you want.”
She nodded and gave him a peck on the cheek, she pulled away and returned the bed to normal before walking to the couch and lying on it. She stared at the ceiling deep in her thought.
“Are you sure about this?” Ella asked Eve before she could get out of the car. It's been two days since the scandal and hospital incident and right now, they were right in front of the Hank’s Corporation building and the expression on Eve’s face showed that she wasn't there to play or talk business. She came to settle scores
“I'm one hundred percent positive. I just have to set things straight again and all will be well. Let's go.”
The door of her car was opened from the outside and with her legs first on the floor, she came out, adjusting her suit.
She was in a black two-piece suit coupled with a white shoe and handbag. Her dark black hair was tied in a ponytail. Her makeup screamed luxury. One could tell from a first look at her long lashes and red lipstick that she was a pro in fashion.
“Welcome, Miss Gray.” An employee walked up to her.
“The CEO’s office.”
“Sorry but do you have an appointment?”
“I don't need one.”
She didn't wait for the lady to lead the way before she started making her way to the elevator. She knows the way around here, after all, she has been here a few times while she was married to Noah.
Getting to the office, from outside, she saw him sitting and working on a file. His office was in a see-through glass and she was glad his window blind wasn't down.
“Ma'am, you can't go in when you don't have an appointment,” the receptionist tried to stop her but Ella got that covered as she stopped her from getting close to Eve.
Eve walked past them to the door. She tried to open it but frowned when she found out that it was locked from the inside.
“You should open your door,” she yelled at him from outside. He was pretending not to hear her. She was sure of that as Noah pretended not to hear her and just focused on his work.
