Chapter 20: She Meant It

Eve’s yell forced Crula to immediately stand on her feet. With teary eyes and legs that trembled so hard they almost gave out, she again denied.

“Madam, you have to believe me. I…Iknow nothing about that.”

“You’re still going to lie, right? I see that you have the intention of falling into the bad books of the Gray’s.”

Crula’s eyes instantly widened. The Grays enemy? She’d rather have herself in the grave than being in the bad books of the Gray family.

She watched in horror as her boss’s daughter walked to the chair where she once sat and took her laptop before walking back to her.

“I got evidence, Crula. This.”

Eve clicked on the video for Crula and the rest of the servants to watch and their gasps reverberated in the room, watching Crula in the footage switching the medicines in the dead of the night. The other servants were so surprised to see the footage. They were surprised that it was Madam Crula of all people who tried to harm their boss.

She was known as the best servant and most loyal to the boss since she had been working there for a long while. But the footage proved that she was infact anything but loyal and kind. If they were given the chance, they wouldn’t hesitate to lunge at her and teach her a good lesson for trying to make them unemployed so soon.

“Do you have anything else to say, Crula? Is this you or not?”

“Th…that…”

“It’s a simple question. Is it you in the footage or not? I didn’t ask for an explanation.”

“Yes. It’s me. It…It’s me.”

Eve handed the laptop to Ella and took slow steps to where Crula was standing. Before she could get there, Crula fell on her knees with her head on the floor and began to plead.

“I’m so sorry, Miss Gray. I didn’t want to do it, I swear. I didn’t want to commit this much crime. It was the work of the devil. Please forgive me.”

“I know it was the work of the devil, honey. Trust me.”

Crula stared at her in disbelief.

“Yo…you know?”

“Yes, I do. I know that it was the work of the devil and he pushed you to do that. That’s the reason I’m going to push him out of your body since it’s very much clear that he is still in there enjoying moving you around.”

“Please spare me, Miss Gray.”

Eve sighed.

“I have one question, Crula.”

Crula nodded indicating that she could go further with her question.

“Why did you do it? Why on earth did you try to harm my father? He has been nothing but good to you. He paid you fairly, he fed you, he paid you an allowance, and accommodates you. He was so nice to you and you dared betray him? Tell me why you did it?”

“I…I… I didn’t mean to. Someone asked me to do it,” Crula confessed while crying. Everyone’s mouth fell open at her words especially Eve who had her fist clenched.

“Who?”

“I…I.”

“I asked who sent you,” she roared. “Who was it that asked you to make sure that my father doesn’t live past this age? Who asked you to do it, tell me.”

“I’m really sorry.”

“Tell me!”

“Genevieve, please calm down,” Ella rushed to calm her down.

“Calm down? Didn’t you hear what she just said. Someone is behind all of these. Everything that is happening, someone out there is the cause of it and I’m sure that person is pretty close to us. I have to find out who it is before the person ends up achieving his goal. So don’t ask me to calm down. I’m still telling you, speak Crula. Who sent you?”

Seeing that Crula wasn’t ready to speak and was only crying her eyes out while pleading for forgiveness, Eve snapped and bent to grab her collar before forcing her from the floor. Her anger took over.

Grabbing the middle aged lady’s neck and not bothering about her age, she squeezed in anger.

“You still won’t say, huh? You think you’re so strong headed. I’m going to show you what happens when you dare betray any member of the Gray family.”

“I didn’t mean to, I swear. It was because of the money.”

Eve let go of her for a while so that she could speak clearly and she chuckled.

“Money? I always knew life is about money but taking someone’s life for money? Someone that treated you fairly. How much were you offered?”

“Wh…what?”

“How much were you paid to finish my father off.”

“I was paid two…two hundred thousand dollars. I really needed the…the money. Please have mercy, Miss Gray. I know that you have a good heart and you forgive easily. Please have mercy.”

Ever burst out laughing.

“Good heart? Mercy? Come on, don’t be daft. You know why I was nice to you, because you were pretending to be nice too. The only reason I was nice is because you acted nice. I was returning the energy. I don’t forgive people who offends me. I left my heart behind a year ago and now, what is remaining inside of me is a thirst for revenge.”

Crula shivered. Eve continued.

“For everyone of you here, let me just make this clear. I was going to throw everyone out but as I said, I return energy. I’ll leave you girls but I swear, if any one of you dare miabehave or try something like this, then that would be the end of you and I’m not joking. I’ll teach you a good lesson.”

“Ye…yes ma’am.”

“Miss Gray?”

Everyone's heads turn at the voices that came from the entrance of the mansion. Crula gasped. The police?

“Welcome. Please come in, Mr Bobby.”

Behind Mr Bobby were other police men.

“You called.”

“Well, someone here, attempted murder on my father. Please take her out. I’m disgusted.”

“Which?”

“This one. Take her away and make sure she does not come out anytime soon. I’ll make sure she is sentenced as required. I want you to torture her and bring out the name of the person who sent her to do this. Take her away.”

“Miss Gray,” Crula’s cries filled the entire room as the police began to drag her out. “Miss Gray please do not do this. Miss Gray.”

Eve stopped and cocked her head to the side.

“I told you, I don’t forgive those who betray.”
