Hearing the teasing laughter, Lance came to his senses and looked at Deanna with a helpless yet doting expression.
He hadn't expected Deanna to come over and playfully tease him.
Deanna saw Lance's embarrassment. Although she started it for fun, she couldn't bear to see her fiance being laughed at, even if it was by his own aunt.
"Aunt, I think this wedding dress fits perfectly. I really like it. Thank you!"
Although she said this to divert her aunt's attention from Lance, her gratitude was sincere. She truly loved the wedding dress.
Seeing the genuine expression on Deanna's face, Amy softened her teasing tone and said warmly, "As long as you like it, there's no need for thanks. We're family."
Deanna nodded and went to change out of the wedding dress.
Watching Deanna re-enter the fitting room, Lance gratefully looked at his aunt and thanked her, "Thank you for putting so much effort into Deanna's wedding dress."
"I did it because I like Deanna, not because of you," Amy retorted arrogantly, then seemed to remember something. "By the way, you'll have to arrange your own suit. I don't have time to make it for you. My fashion show later this year is very important and could determine my future career. Making Deanna's dress already took up a lot of my time."
Lance wasn't upset by her words. He knew his aunt's dream was to become a world-class fashion designer. She had even gone incognito in her younger years to work as an assistant to a top master in the field.
"No problem. I'll have someone else make my suit. I hope your show is a great success."
"Thanks for the good wishes."
As Amy finished speaking, Deanna came out after changing and removing her makeup. It didn't take long at all.
Seeing that it was almost noon, Deanna felt that just saying thank you wasn't enough for the wedding dress Amy made for her, so she extended an invitation.
"Aunt, let's have lunch together."
"Sure, I know a great restaurant with amazing food. You'll love it," Amy agreed without hesitation.
She wanted to spend time with Deanna and Lance and also understood Deanna's intentions.
They headed to the restaurant together. During the meal, Deanna and Amy chatted enthusiastically about the fashion industry. Lance, unfamiliar with the topic, didn't say much but kept taking care of Deanna's meal. As a result, Deanna's plate was never empty, which made Amy fed up with their display of affection.
Finally, unable to bear it any longer, she said, "You two are too much. Are you here to treat me to lunch or to show off your affection?"
"Of course, we're here to treat you to lunch," Deanna replied, feeling a bit embarrassed by the teasing. She turned to Lance and whispered, "You should eat too. You've been taking care of me and probably haven't eaten enough."
"It's fine. I ate while taking care of you, and these dishes don't taste good when they're cold," Lance replied nonchalantly.
Seeing her nephew's gentle expression, Amy grumbled, "I think you're just here to show off your affection. You're lucky your uncle isn't here. Next time he's around, I'll make sure to show off too."
"I'm just afraid that when Uncle is here, you'll be too busy to have time," Lance teased back, which only made Amy more annoyed.
As the two began to bicker, Deanna didn't intervene but watched with a smile, enjoying the lively atmosphere.
After lunch, Amy parted ways with Deanna and Lance.
Instead of heading back immediately, Lance had Xavier drive them to a scenic spot they had planned to visit. They stayed out until ten in the evening before returning to the hotel.
Just as the elevator doors were about to close, Deanna saw a familiar figure. She instinctively wanted to take a closer look but the doors had already shut.
Noticing her reaction, Lance asked curiously, "What's wrong?"
"I think I just saw Emily," Deanna said honestly but then shook her head. "But maybe I was mistaken."
Seeing her frown, Lance thought for a moment and said, "I'll have Xavier check it out."
Deanna didn't refuse. Although she had dismissed it as a mistake, something inside her insisted she hadn't been wrong. It was Emily.
Given Emily's hatred for her, if that person was indeed Emily, she needed to know why Emily was here and if it had anything to do with her.
Unbeknownst to her, she was right.
The person who had just brushed past her was indeed Emily. Raphael had somehow obtained an invitation to an international business conference and had brought Emily along at her request.
