Garrett looked at the unyielding Deanna, his anger rising once again. However, thinking about the precarious state of his company, he clenched his fists tightly and suppressed his anger, speaking in a gentle tone, "Deanna, I know you've suffered over the years, especially with what happened between you and Mr. Mercer. It was my fault; I shouldn't have been so arbitrary back then, causing you and the children to suffer..."
Seeing that the man was about to shed tears, Deanna quickly interrupted him, "Mr. Jones, stop shedding crocodile tears. If you don't get to the point, I'll have someone escort you out. I have a busy schedule and no time to listen to your useless words."
With that, Deanna signaled to Shannon. Shannon understood and moved to escort Garrett out.
Garrett couldn't leave; he hadn't stated his purpose for coming. Grabbing the armrest of the sofa cushion, he hurriedly said, "I'm here to ask you to save our family's company. Over the years, we've been blind. That Raphael and the Howard family have always had ulterior motives; they want to take over Jones Group. Your foolish sister was coaxed by Raphael into transferring her shares, and combined with the money I borrowed from the Howard family, if we can't repay it, the company will belong to them."
At this point, Garrett's face looked grim.
Deanna watched him and could only think he deserved it. And she said so, "What does your Jones family company have to do with me? Don't forget, you kicked me out. Neither you nor Jones Group has anything to do with me."
"Deanna, how can you be so heartless?"
Garrett looked at her in disbelief. He thought that since he had apologized so humbly, Deanna should be magnanimous and not hold grudges.
Deanna didn't know his thoughts but could guess a bit. She couldn't help but laugh mockingly, "Heartless? Mr. Jones, don't you think that's funny? How can I compare to you in heartlessness? When your good wife and daughter were oppressing me all these years, did you ever say I was heartless? When you helped them scheme against me, did you ever say you were heartless?"
Garrett was left speechless and even somewhat embarrassed and angry.
He glared at her and defended himself through gritted teeth, "It's because you never knew how to please people. If you had been sweeter, would your stepmother have disliked you? Besides, no matter how your stepmother and I treated you, we raised you and gave you a wealthy life."
Hearing this, Deanna laughed coldly again.
"Yes, I should thank you for raising me like a servant, scheming against me, stealing my fiancé, and kicking me out of the house."
After saying this, Deanna looked at him mockingly and continued sarcastically, "I should also thank your good daughter for taking Raphael; otherwise, I would have been the one deceived."
With these words, Garrett was completely at a loss for what to say to make Deanna save the company.
He stood there with an ugly expression, wanting to leave but unwilling.
Suddenly, he noticed a photo frame on Deanna's desk. The familiar yet strange face inside gave him a shock and an idea popped into his mind.
"Fine, even if you hate me for not caring about you all these years and don't want to help me, the company is innocent. You should know that your mother put a lot of effort into founding Jones Group. Can you bear to see her hard work fall into someone else's hands?"
Garrett's words hit Deanna's soft spot.
She had always cared about her mother's belongings and had vowed to reclaim them...
Thinking of this, Deanna looked at the man across from her who was still trying to persuade her emotionally. An idea came to her mind.
"I can help you."
She looked at Garrett meaningfully and continued before he could ask for conditions, "As long as you tell me how my mother really died back then, I can give you money to repay the Howard family's debt."
As soon as she finished speaking, Garrett's expression froze for a moment.
"You know how your mother died; she committed suicide," Garrett said with feigned calmness.
He actually knew there was something suspicious about Olivia's death but couldn't reveal it; otherwise, Jones family would be finished.
Unbeknownst to him, his attempt to hide the truth was betrayed by his micro-expressions.
Deanna coldly watched the man lying to her and suddenly smiled mockingly. "Back then, when you cheated with Mia and she brought Emily to force my mother into divorce, my mother didn't break down and commit suicide. Yet you're telling me that such a strong woman who wanted a new life killed herself because of me? Do you think I'll believe that?"
Garrett was once again rendered speechless.
Seeing this, Deanna didn't care and coldly said, "Since you're unwilling to tell me the truth, there's no need for us to continue this conversation. Shannon, see him out!"
