"If it's what your master said, then it must be right."
Lionel eagerly picked up the documents on the table and began to read. However, as he scanned the contents, his brows furrowed tightly. The data was chaotic, and deciphering the formula for the special medicine would likely take months.
Before he could say anything, Deanna's voice came again. "Also, my master said that only the two of us can decode this information. Until we do, no third person should know about it."
"If that's the case, your master means there's something fishy in our research institute," Lionel deduced immediately.
Deanna nodded. "That's exactly what he means."
Seeing her confirmation, Lionel frowned again. "So, when we decode the formula, how will we conduct the experiments? It's impossible for just the two of us to complete them."
"My master has thought of that. He wants us to observe everyone in the institute carefully while we decode the formula," Deanna explained.
Lionel agreed with this approach. They then discussed how to decode the formula. However, before they could say much, there was a knock on the door, followed by Shannon's voice.
"Missus, Brent says he has something urgent to report."
"I understand. Let Brent in," Deanna responded while putting away the documents related to the special medicine. She then casually pulled out another file and placed it between herself and Lionel.
By the time she finished, Brent had entered the room. "Brent, what's the urgent matter?"
"Miss, your father is here again. He's downstairs making a scene and refuses to leave," Brent reported respectfully.
Deanna was momentarily stunned, not expecting Garrett to persist after being turned away before. She thought for a moment and then said to Lionel, "Let's pause our discussion for now. I'll handle my personal matters and then we'll continue. You can go ahead with your work."
"Alright, I'll get going then," Lionel agreed readily and left.
After he left, Deanna instructed Brent, "Please have security let him in."
"Yes," Brent nodded but hesitated before leaving. He glanced at Deanna and asked, "Miss, should I arrange for a few people to stand guard outside?"
Although he hadn't been with Deanna for long, he was well aware of her background.
Deanna shook her head. "No need. Shannon will be here to guard."
She pointed to Shannon and introduced her. "This is my fiancé's bodyguard. She's very skilled."
"I see. With her here, I don't have to worry about your safety," Brent said before turning to notify security.
After he left, Shannon revealed some information about him. "Missus, that Brent is trained in martial arts and likely belongs to a hidden family."
"How do you know this?" Deanna asked in surprise.
Shannon smiled slightly. "I observed his steady steps; only trained individuals have such a demeanor. Also, when he spoke to you, he unconsciously bowed slightly-a habit of servants from hidden families."
Her observations were indeed meticulous. Deanna nodded but made no comment.
Shannon remained silent and stood quietly by her side.
Soon after, Brent returned with Garrett.
"Miss, he's here."
"Alright, you can go now," Deanna waved him away.
Brent nodded and left.
Now only Deanna, Shannon, and Garrett were in the office.
Garrett sat comfortably on the sofa, looking around and commenting, "Your office is quite small. Don't you find it stifling to work in such a cramped space?"
"Whether it's stifling or not is none of your concern. Just tell me why you're here," Deanna cut straight to the point.
Garrett noticed her impatience and a trace of anger flashed in his eyes, but he kept his temper in check and spoke kindly. "I heard your research institute has made a lot of money recently and has several collaborations with official hospitals. If your mother were still alive, she would be very proud of your achievements."
Hearing this, Deanna frowned tightly as she warily looked at Garrett. Something was off about him today.
"Stop trying to get close to me. Just state your purpose directly," Deanna said coldly, guessing his intentions based on what she had heard from Lance earlier. She figured Garrett was either here to ask for money or to seek help for Jones Group.
