Chapter 64 Never Been So Humiliated

While waiting for the dishes, Xavier hurried over.

Lance looked up, giving him a cold glance. "What's up?"

Chloe and Gregory also looked up, curious about Xavier's arrival.

Feeling uncomfortable under their scrutiny, Xavier cleared his throat and reported to Lance, "Master, Garrett has been taken to the police station for questioning. But it won't have much impact on him in the end. After all, his identity speaks for itself."

Lance, unsurprised by the news, responded, "It doesn't matter. I wasn't expecting anything that would affect him anyway."

He had already anticipated this outcome.

He only wanted to take the children away and had no intention of bothering Garrett.

Lance never approved of Garrett's behavior and naturally didn't bother to help him.

Acknowledging Lance's response, Xavier nodded and glanced at the two children before tactfully leaving.

"Uncle-"

Chloe said anxiously, having heard Xavier's words, feeling worried.

Wouldn't that bad man get arrested? Would he seek revenge on them and Mommy?

Gregory, sharing her concern, raised an eyebrow and asked Lance, "Will Mommy get into trouble?"

Lance sighed and reassured them, "Nothing will happen."

His tone was calm, providing them with a sense of security.

Chloe smiled, showing her teeth. "I trust you, Uncle!"

At that moment, the waiter brought the dishes.

"Sir, your ordered dishes are ready, along with the juice."

Lance nodded, and the waiter left.

"Let's eat."

His expression softened a bit as he spoke to the two children.

Chloe and Gregory were already hungry and, upon hearing this, they no longer held back, enjoying the meal.

"So delicious!"

Chloe exclaimed, feeling that high-end restaurants were indeed different. It was the best meal she had ever had!

Gregory's mouth was stuffed with food, his cheeks bulging. His eyes sparkled as he vigorously nodded.

Lance didn't reply, but he felt a strange sense of satisfaction.

The food seemed tastier in his mouth than before.

The light cast on his face softened his cold features.

Half an hour later, Deanna hurriedly arrived.

She immediately inquired about her daughter's condition anxiously, "Chloe, are you okay? Let me see your wound!"

Chloe stretched out her injured leg, which was already bandaged with gauze.

"I'm fine, Mommy."

Seeing Deanna, her eyes lit up, and her voice was full of obedience.

Deanna looked at her leg with affection, feeling sorry for her. "Does it hurt a lot?"

She knew Chloe couldn't bear much pain.

Chloe shook her head. "It doesn't hurt. Uncle bandaged it for me. He did it so well, and it didn't hurt at all."

Thinking of this, she turned to look at Lance, revealing a happy smile without reservation.

Lance, being stared at by her, didn't respond. He just lowered his head to eat.

He felt oddly happy inside.

Deanna sighed in relief and bowed to Lance. "Thank you so much, Mr. Mercer! Thanks to you, it wasn't a big trouble."

Lance raised an eyebrow, casually saying as if he hadn't done anything, "It was just a small favor, no need to thank me."

His voice was calm and magnetic.

Deanna insisted, "Tonight's dinner, I'll treat Mr. Mercer!"

Her tone brooked no refusal. In her eyes, the two children were her everything.

So, this expression of gratitude was only natural.

Lance didn't respond, tacitly agreeing.

He understood her stubbornness; once she decided something, it wouldn't easily change.

If she wanted to treat him, then let her.

So, the four of them sat together for dinner.

Chloe ate slowly, and Deanna picked up her bowl to feed her.

"Mommy, I can eat by myself."

Chloe obediently said, not wanting to trouble her mommy.

Deanna felt sorry for her and insisted, "I'll do it."

Chloe didn't resist anymore and let her mother feed her.

Gregory was sensible. He picked up a piece of meat for Lance and sincerely said, "Uncle, have some more."

Lance, seeing this, softened his gaze.

"You should eat more too."

With that, he picked up a piece of braised pork for Gregory.

Gregory, hearing this, felt even more fond of him.

At the police station, the police were questioning Garrett.

"What exactly is your identity? Why did you take the children away?"

Garrett answered honestly, "I am the chairman of the Jones Group and the grandfather of the two children. I'm not a human trafficker! I just wanted to pick up the children after school!"

After speaking, he handed over his ID card and earnestly said, "You can investigate at any time."

He wasn't afraid of trouble; his true identity was there, and he hadn't directly harmed the children.

Therefore, the police wouldn't detain or arrest him.

After listening, the police took his ID card and took his photo.

Garrett sat there, someone watching him nearby.

He sighed, his face pale.

Though nothing serious would happen, he still felt bad, with a lump in his chest.

He cursed silently, wanting to punch the table, but seeing the warning look from the police, he reluctantly refrained.

He had never been so humiliated in his life.

If this got out, it would be a disgrace!
