Chapter 63 No Pain in a While

Garrett stood still, his face pale, filled with disbelief.

He never expected Mr. Mercer to be like this, giving him no face at all!

He clenched his fists, something he should have anticipated long ago.

At this moment, Deanna was still on her way in a hurry.

The road was congested with slow-moving traffic.

She glanced at her watch, feeling anxious.

God knows if Garrett would do anything wicked to the two kids?

He even kidnapped Chloe and Gregory, utterly heartless!

She anxiously closed her eyes, knowing that every minute she was late meant more danger for them.

"Driver, please pay now. I need to get off!" She urged the taxi driver anxiously, seeing the unmoving cars around.

Cloudpeak Tavern wasn't far from here.

Running there should be faster.

Suddenly, she received a call, her heart skipping a beat.

Seeing it was Lance, she breathed a sigh of relief.

Lance's magnetic voice came through the phone, "Dr. Deanna, I just met Garrett and helped out with Chloe and Gregory. I'm at the restaurant, and the kids are with me."

As he spoke, he sent her a location.

Deanna hurriedly asked about the kids' condition.

"Are they okay? Are they hurt?"

She tightly held onto her clothes, her knuckles turning white.

Lance truthfully replied, "Gregory is fine, Chloe fell and got a minor injury, but it's not serious."

Upon hearing this, Deanna furrowed her brows, anger rising within her.

Garrett, treating her children like this!

A hint of fierceness flashed in her eyes as she mentally noted it down.

Fortunately, Mr. Mercer happened to pass by; otherwise, who knows what would have happened.

Thinking of this, she gratefully said to Lance, "Mr. Mercer, thank you for helping out. I'm nearby; I'll come over right away. Thank you, Mr. Mercer!"

Lance calmly replied, "You can come later; no rush."

After hanging up, Lance's gaze fell on the two kids.

Gregory sat opposite him, obediently drinking juice.

Chloe sat on his lap, tears in her big eyes.

Looking at her scraped leg, she pouted at him, "It hurts."

The soft, sweet sound melted his heart.

Lance sighed and softened, taking out a clean handkerchief from his pocket to cover her wound. "It'll stop hurting in a while," he coaxed, his voice unexpectedly gentle.

After a while, a waiter came over with a small bag.

"Sir, the things you asked me to buy are ready."

The waiter bowed to Lance.

"Thank you."

Lance took the bag and opened it, containing disinfectant, medical cotton swabs, and ointment.

After the waiter left, Chloe timidly looked at the items, trembling slightly.

Lance hugged her gently, saying, "Don't be afraid, Chloe. I'll help you treat the wound; otherwise, it might get infected."

Chloe nodded obediently, politely saying, "Thank you, uncle."

Lance carried her to a chair, squatting down to start disinfecting her wound.

The cotton swab dipped in disinfectant touched the wound, bringing a burning sensation.

"Ah, it hurts!"

Chloe couldn't help but cry out in pain, her eyes welling up.

Lance felt a pang in his heart, unable to bear the pain himself. He slowed down his movements, softly saying, "Uncle will blow on it; it won't hurt anymore."

He leaned closer to her wound, gently blowing on it.

The tingling sensation instantly replaced the pain.

Chloe curiously opened her eyes, marveling at it.

Lance continued to disinfect her wound, his movements gentle and swift, occasionally blowing on it.

"It doesn't seem as painful as I imagined."

Chloe murmured, and in the blink of an eye, Lance had finished applying the medicine, cool and soothing.

"Done."

Lance stood up, looking at her, his eyes gentle as he advised, "Don't let the wound touch water for a week, and avoid eating spicy food."

Chloe nodded, tilting her head, staring at him.

Not only was the handsome uncle handsome, but also very gentle!

He applied medicine for her and blew on her wound.

Moreover, when he protected her and her brother just now, she felt so warm and secure!

She couldn't help but think, how nice it would be if he were her daddy.

Gregory, on the other side, suddenly stood up, his face serious as he said to Lance, "Thank you, uncle, for helping us!"

His tone was polite, matched with his expression, making him look like a little adult.

Lance smiled, saying, "No need to be so polite."

Thinking of what Gregory did, he sincerely praised, "Little guy, what you did just now was very smart, asking for help."

If Gregory hadn't done that, he wouldn't have been able to save them.

Gregory nodded, his eyes filled with resentment, gritting his teeth, "That man wanted to take us away, threatening mommy. I also want to protect mommy!"

Lance couldn't help but glance at him upon hearing this.

Gregory, at such a young age, is so sensible.

He smiled and asked, "What do you want to eat? Your mommy may not be here for a while."

The two children hesitated, feeling hungry but not wanting to trouble Uncle.

Lance understood and said, "It's okay. When your mommy comes later, she can treat us."

The two kids nodded immediately and ordered some food.
